Title: Any points for this bobcat video? : )
Post by: Kain on November 28, 2010, 07:36:17 PM
Sorry about the shaky camera work.  I was zoomed all the way in and was in an awkward position trying to get him in frame.

I got bored during late archery deer season and decided to do some predator calling. Got this bobcat to come in at 1:30pm after 35 minutes of calling. He never slowed down enough to give me a shot with the bow.  :'(  This is the sixth bobcat I have called in and I have only ever got one of them.  As you can see I hunt some pretty thick stuff.  If I had the 870 it would be dead.  Next time.

Very cool Kain. Maybe if you put the camera down you could get a shot at a few more of them...  :chuckle:

:chuckle: By this time he had already circled all the way around me and I would have had to jump up to get a shot and he would have been gone.  I decided to try and get video instead so people would actually believe I can call in cats.  My wife is starting to wonder if I actually go hunting because I never bring anything home.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

I always have great stories to tell and some are hard to believe.  Like a couple of weeks ago I called in a grouse while using cougar in heat sound. :yike:  Im not even fibbing either.   It came thundering into a tree above me and started making some wierd guinea pig like sounds...so I shot it.   :chuckle:

This was my Spitfire but the sound is a sequence I made using free sounds off the internet.  Here is a link to the MP3 if you wanna give it a try.  I dont use the bobcat distress on the end anymore though.  Called in 5 of the six bobcats with this sound and a lot of coyotes to.  There is two minutes of silence on the beginning for when I used to use it with my homemade caller.

If there is are "points" for this one, there should be!  Plus a bunch of extra points for sharing you calling sound with the rest of us.

Thanks and good hunting!

Awesome to get him on video Kain!!!!!!

We call in far more of the slippery suckers than we shoot also.

That is COOL! I need to learn how & where to call in bobcats! ....Right after I figure out how to call the damn coyotes...

Personally I think bobcats are easier to call in...at least on the wetside.  There just are not as many of them.  They like lots of cover and I find them around water and drainages.  I just walk down the road and find out where they put the culverts.  Head into the heavy brush somewhere close until I see a semi open area...sit the caller out 15-20 yards and start calling.  Mid level volume for five minutes then blast it for about twenty.  Then move the volume up and down every ten minutes for the rest of the hour, (this might just be to keep me busy more than it helps).  :chuckle:  It seems to be working for me but this is only my third year calling.  :dunno:

That's truly an accomplishment to get a video like that.  Thanks for sharing.

Now my big question is; how to I get that great sound file of yours from the folder on my computer into my caller?  I put it in my FX-5 folder (where all my other sounds are), but can't seem to get it from there to the Foxpro Utility program...  Any and all advice/help is GREATLY appreciated.  I've been at this for about three hours and have had no luck.

Thanks for sharing.....It's weird that the most visible thing about it was the black tip of it's tail.

Is it possible the file is too big?  I dont know anything about the Fx-5 but it went on my Spitfire just fine.  Have you loaded MP3's on it before?

I definately agree with blasting the sound. Most of the bobs I have called in were when I was bear hunting and calling hard.

Shortened the sequence up for anyone that is interested.  Its the same one I use just without the silence at the beginning and without the bobcat distress on the end.
