Hunted the Skagit flock this weekend and limited out w/ nice mature snows by noon. The big bonus was my son Max who shot his first double on geese, with the icing on the cake being his first banded bird! The bird was banded 10yrs ago in Russia.

The birds were were collecting north of us as the first flock that came out was about a thousand and landed 1/4 mile above us. We watched as wave after wave poured into that ever growing flock.

The white line on the ground is geese, and if you can see it, there is a flock of about 200 landing into it.

finally about 10am they started moving around and playing hop scotch and a few ventered towards our spread at 20 feet. Our first go was 7 birds in with only 2 flying out. Max Doubles - gets a banded bird, Dom dumps one w/ his 20, and I pull down a double. Notice the flock off of Dominic's right shoulder.

Dom then gets his shot and dumps 2 that were on his side of the blind - again low and in our face.

We end up scratching out a limit of 12 birds 2 hours after putting the first birds down, while this giant flock never really was disturbed.
Thinking a mount of the mature banded snow for Max would be cool to do.

Another great memory for my sons as they learn to get it done and excercise patients.

We roasted those 2 birds in a pan w/ bone broth and red wine. The birds were stuffed w/ celery, onion, garlic, and lemon. they were rubbed down w/ rosemary, sage, raw butter, salt and pepper. Cooked at 350 for 1 hr.....Delicious :EAT:
