Have talked to two different individuals that killed or shot at a bull in unit 530. I tell them and they say its always been 3pt or better or cow. I grab my regs and show them nuff said.

I know I'll get jumped on for this but.... There really should be a test required to renew your hunting license every 5 years or so. As well as an accuracy test. Especially an accuracy test. Unfortunately every year there is a higher and higher percentage of people who should not be carrying a gun and bow. There are too many people who don't keep themselves up to date on regulations, don't target practise to be efficient with their weapon of choice etc.
People think that hunting is a right. It is not a right it is a privelage that we should all take seriously. If we are taking another things life we owe it to that animal that we are doing it legally and ethically. I strongly believe that there should be steps taken to "weed" out the the ones that do not belong in the woods.
Now I know alot of people will say that we NEED more hunters for a stronger voice. I disagree. These types of hunters are not going to contribute any voice. And in fact are a hinderance to hunting. Because these are the a-holes that give other hunters a bad name and give the Anti's ammo to use against us. If we took steps to get rid of the slobs etc. then we would be far better off.

Colockumelk,
As a self appointed junior moderator I am revoking your right to an opinion on Hunt WA...until you return from Alabama. Your posts have gone drastically down hill and I can only assume it's because you have lost your appreciation for a hard earned deer or elk in the wet, cold Washington weather. When you are ready to climb down from your treestand that overlooks your tecomate foodplot and put down your photo album of trail cam pics of all the white tail bucks you have to choose from...I will allow you to voice your opinion. Until then you can continue to fill the rest of your 15 management doe tags and keep your opinion to yourself.

:o Oh pass the popcorn....please.

Wow

i agree that these guys need to be punished because they dient follow the rules, but i believe to call them a-holes, and slobs, and say that they do not belong in the woods is a little to harsh. these guys made an honest mistake by not checking the regs for new changes. it was a stupid mistake, which should not have been made, but they made it, and will hopefully learn from it, and return to hunting legally like they had intended to do. i do not see these people as a "hindrance to hunting" because they are most likely honest people who made a mistake. the true hindrance to hunting are those who go out with the intention to poach and break the rules, not the experienced hunter who makes a mistake.
-
Wow
-
Mistakes due to negligence are no better than poaching etc. in my opinion. I check the regulations everywhere I hunt every year as soon as I get my hands on the new issue of the laws to see if anything changed. It's not that tough, and there's no excuse not to, especially the past few years with all the changes.

Third day of late archery a buddy of mine had a lone 5x4 at 40 yards while still hunting through a patch of timber. Had to pass it up and needless to say he was upset!
While the change sucks, it's not that bad. . . The elk are taking a hit with the hoof rot, and I think they're just trying to maintain as healthy a ratio as possible as far as bulls to cows.

:yeah:
Three days ago I had a long time (30 years) local bow hunter tell me that Coweeman (550) was either sex for late muzzy. I had to correct him (its 3 point or larger). He said "WOW, It always was at least until the state gave it to you muzzy hunters." Fact is that people don't take time to read the regs. Just look at how many posts here on this forum can be answered by "Read the Regs, see page XXX.

I WILL NEVER CLIMB DOWN FROM MY TREESTAND AND YOU CANT MAKE ME GROUND WALKER!!!!
First of all don't hate me because I drive my truck to some private property, get out and unhook my Bad-Boy-Buggy and drive the last 200 yds to my stand. Its not as easy as it seems. And let me correct you on some things. First of all I don't hunt in a tree stand, I hunt in a heated treehouse with a recliner. There's a difference! Second of all I don't use Tecomate. Tecomate is for peasants and hicks. I ONLY use Biologic, so don't insult me by branding me a Tecomate slob. And you metnioned "photo album". This is the 21st centurey dude. Maybe over there in WA you still use rolls of film but here in Alabama we are advanced. I'll have you know that my trail cam beams me pictures strait to my computer via a satellite in freaking OUTER SPACE!!! And I would never lower myself to your level and shoot a doe. I let my camera man aka the hired help shoot the does. But you did get one thing right I DO get to pick which buck I shoot. And if I want to lecture people on why you HAVE to wear camo and use scentlock underwear and gum, mouthwash, and scentlock bras even though you are in a treehouse with fully enclosed windows then I will.

I have my regs by the toilet si I read them all the time. even before I go hunt a unit I always make sure I know what I'm hunting cause I hunt 530, 667, 505 & 520. The change was made 2 years ago.

Hunterman, what's got you steamed :dunno: :dunno:- that someone poached a bull in an area that's not open, or that I suggest that the authorities should be involved when someone has taken an animal illegally? :dunno: :dunno: Your the only one that said anything about points :dunno: :dunno:
-
Oh boy the points again. I'm not going to state weather authorities were contacted or not.
-
Any real hunter counts the days in the spring time until the regulations come out, then he or she pours over them, constantly checking for changes and confirming hunt dates. By hunting season their copy of regs is weathered and worn. Their is no excuse for not knowing what is legal and what is not. Saying that someone who did not know the law because they did not read their regs is only guilty of honest mistake is ridiculous. Ignorance is no excuse, it's your responsibility to know the game laws, anyone who does not take the time to do it is just plain lazy.
-
I hunt that unit and I have heard of a couple of late archery bulls myself...and it's bull #$%$, what kind of hunter doesnt read the regs...could get your @#$# in a sling for stupid ##@$ like that.
-
Not reading and knowing the regs where you're hunting is not an "honest mistake". It's the sign of someone who just doesn't give a s&*t. I'll join the minority here and state that yeah, I think that hunting without knowing what the rules are looks an awful lot like poaching to me, too.
I see this all the time with fishing, too, some idiot gets a salmon in the net alongside the boat, and then while it's thrashing around and beating itself to death against the hull, the "fisherman" grabs the radio to ask the general listening populace what the regs are. Invariably, he'll get six different answers, five of them from other people who ALSO don't know, but are glad to offer their own ignorant interpretation of what they think the regs were last year.
There is NO excuse for not knowing the regs. Every gas station and sporting goods store in the state has a pile of them by the door. I have a copy in the bathroom, one on the nightstand, one in each vehicle and one of the fishing regs in the boat. I also am on the WDFW email list, so that I get an email every time there is a regulation change or other relevant hunting or fishing news from the state. Also have a copy of the regs in a waterproof case, along with maps, in my pack when hunting. It's not like it weighs a lot.
-
There is no excuse for not knowing the hunting rules. We have months to read them! I stuck my late archery cow in an antlerless only unit and i had two friends of mine bring to my attention that the unit I was hunting was 3pt only. I was amazed honestly that these people even brought this to my attention because it was almost like they were trying to catch me doing something wrong. They know me and know I go by the rules. After they actually read the rules, they realized I was right. Know your regs and unit boundaries!! Plain and simple.
-
Ignorance should not be tolerated. >:(
-
My cousin ran into a guy hunting for a bull last weekend and had to pull out the regs, I can't believe some people!!! >:(
-
I know I'll get jumped on for this but.... There really should be a test required to renew your hunting license every 5 years or so.
With the way this state changes the regs...it should be yearly!! :chuckle:
-
Pretty Lame >:( >:(
The day the REGS come out online I check my unit to see if anything has changed. Every year I hope they let me hunt the areas I know best. :IBCOOL:
