I'm just curious to everyone's tastes. I love moose and elk- caribou is great too. Growing up, venison is all I ate. Grouse is my favorite bird hands down.
I'll check back later...I need to go to the fridge.
-
love the deer meat!!
-
I clicked other.even though ive only had it a few times, I really like the taste of cougar.
-
I agree about Grouse, I've only had moose a few times, it was good, Elk's my pick
-
Spike Deer! The meat is awesome....the rack..not so much
-
Been there, done that.... :chuckle:

I would say cougar backstrap.
-
No question moose for more. . . Second would be whitetail deer.
-
i said other... caribou!!
-
I put elk. Grew up on deer and still usually have it a few nights a week. Had buffalo a few times and that was really good. Never had cougar but from what I've heard its the best tasting wild game.
-
I say Mt. Goat, we've had several and all good!
-
I was telling a coworker how much I loved the elk at Rasbos BBQ. He laughed and said that's only cuz I've never had Moose. Love turkey and salmon. I've had caribou sausage a few times, liked that alot.
-
Yup- moose and elk are great. Succulent small whitetails are most excellent as well. I like Dall sheep and caribou as well. Mountain goat? Awful
-
I voted deer, specifically for young alfalfa fed whitetails . Tender moose is a close second for me. Then, YOY ruffed grouse, quail, chukar, blue grouse, elk, turkey, mule deer, pheasant, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, puddle ducks, cans, redheads, bear, caribou, other divers, woodcock. Worst ever was an adult male common merganser :puke:
-
Mountain Huckleberry fed bear as far as I am concerned. best meat I've ever had as far as I'm concerned.
-
deer, elk, moose, cariboo, bear. Its all good and better that any store bought meat :twocents: :twocents:
-
Beaver! :P
-
Duck. :P Seriously though, you cant go wrong with venison, bear langauger (sp?) is pretty awesome, any bear sausage is awesome. Elk steaks are great, buffalo is pretty darn good, grouse is awesome. Duck is the only wild meat that I haven't been to fond of, though I can eat it, I am just gonna do sausage with it for now on. If I had to pick a favorite, I would have to say deer, of any species.
-
Beaver! :P
Beaver tastes too much like fish :P
Duck is good though
-
I like all wild game meat, and will never pass up on venison !! But honestly Bear is 100% my fav!!
Most of us spend a lot of time preparing for the hunt, and a lot of time in the woods in pursuit of our game! I enjoy all game meat that i spend so much time pursuing!

What ever protein my son just put in the frig is the bee's knees to me. I just hope he can provide protein and roots, etc in the future. I sure wish that I was better adapted to teaching him to feed a family off the land.
-
elk is awesome, but after eating some of buckhorn2's moose that has changed...Moose rocks
-
Beaver! :P
beaver is ok,but after they bitch slap ya with that tail a few times, and send ya home with your ears ringing, kinda sucks :chuckle:
-
Maybe you should try sending them home!! :dunno:
-
:yeah:

I'd say elk mostly because there is alot more bang for your buck (no pun intended), more meat in the freezer. My daughter Tara would disagree, she prefers deer. She was going to kill one this year just so we'd have some meat. Last year was the only year we did not have deer in the freezer, mostly because of my elk hunt and because most of the girls were busy during deer season and no one got a tag. She was not happy about that and took care of business by filling her tag.
-
Moose is great. Elk is a close second. I really like deer too, and I've only had cougar once, but it was also good. My favorite bird is grouse, love grouse.
-
I like bear. Never shot an elk :'( but I have always enjoyed any elk I've been given. Antelope is good and then deer. I like any game bird a lot except duck/goose. I'm just not sure I could eat cougar. That just turns my stomach, probably because I hate cats so much. Nasty creatures.
-
Moose is fantastic and goes a long ways, but I would have to say for best taste and tenderness: Cougar is the best hands down. Just need to kill one...............
-
From the choices given, I selected Elk. But then, I have never had moose, and I heard that it is excellent. I have also heard from several sources that Dall Sheep is the best wild game meat (including Jack O'Connor, who seemed to be right about just about everything else he wrote). So far though, my favorite meat is Buffalo.
-
Pronghorn. We've had meat from approximately 50 over the last ten years. Our family (including kids, grandparents, and everyone in between) and friends consistently rate it well above elk and deer. (1) Pronghorn, (2) Elk, (3) Deer.
-
Pheasant is the best game bird hands down. If that were a solo choice I would have picked it. But Elk is awesome.
-
And it looks like.....elk is the winner, hands down. :)
-
Antelope pepperoni from Stahl's, Lewistown, MT. GOOD STUFF.
-
It looks like there is a lot of people on here that haven't tried Moose meat.
-
Sitka deer best for big game - - Grouse best for fowl
-
elk for me love the burger!!!!
-
I also have to say that i have had bison/buffalo before and it is really, really good..
but I would say caribou and moose are the top with bison/buffalo right behind.. my top 3
-
If properly taken care of, pronghorn is hard to beat. I also think that if a person picked elk over moose, they probably haven't had moose. Elk is excellent, but moose is outstanding (IMHO). It's funny to me to hear people talking about cooking wild game in a manner that eliminates the wild taste. Hell, I love the wild taste. That's the whole idea. Maybe that's why I rate pronghorn amongst the best. I have heard that corn fed whitetails are awesome. (never taken a whitetail... ). Im with Gutpile, I don't think I could eat a Mt Lion, even though I have heard they are excellent. I wonder if the food bank would take cougar?
-
Corn fed young whitetails, grouse, moose, elk and last wetside blackmail during the late season
-
I wonder if the food bank would take cougar?
If they dont i will :hello:
-
You forgot Oryx! It is by far the best tasting game meat in the world!!!!!!!! I couldnt believe it when I first tried it.
-
Gotta go with Bearhunter....Oryx is some of the best I have had.
-
People are still responding so I re-opened the voting. Have at her boys.
-
That was not an easy vote :dunno:
-
Last summer I was on a committee that planned and held a conference for National Guardsmen from 8 western states (it's called the Lewis and Clark Conference, we do it annually), and Washington hosted it last year. I talked the committee into doing a Buffalo BBQ for the lunch on day 2 of the conference (since, after all it is called the Lewis and Clark Conference, and those dudes ate a LOT of Buffalo on their trip). Several times it almost got cancelled because we were having a hard time getting buffalo at a reasonable price, but finally we found a supplier and we got her done.
It was a HUGE hit. I didn't talk to a single person at the conference that didn't have something good to say about the meat. Over 300 Soldiers.
-
For me it would have to be Stone sheep, number two cougar.
-
My vote goes to deer, but I'll chow down on just about anything I harvest...
-
Antelope. Next would be elk for me.
MS
-
I'll eat what ever i shoot except for yotes but I like deer the best.
-
I checked Moose, but the best meat I've had was from a wild buffalo taken in the Pink Mountins of BC. BC still has a huntable heard of them bad guys. After that is corn feed whitetalis, elk, bear are all in one bucket.
