Title: I need a recommendation
Post by: McCascades on December 07, 2010, 05:42:42 PM
My son will be home from college at the end of the week. The boys and I were not able to get out and hunt big game this fall with moving and everything else we had on our plates. I would like to take both of my boys out for some good waterfowl hunting.  Can anyone recommend a good outfitter?  I live between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass and  am willing to drive whereever to make this a great hunt.

Thanks in advance

Burbank.

You will kill ducks. Or geese.

End of story.

Eagle Lakes Ranch in Othello, would be my choice if you want birds.

Eagle lakes ranch has not been  producing limits, have a guides number in my phone he says not worth it yet, Lots of Lesser's not the big Honks yet, duck is still a little sparatic. unless your a good repeating client to hunt the triangle. Thats what my report is. Don't go with Echterncamps either went there twice last year big ZERO, would not even give us a discount, if we came again. And I went there on other peoples word that Aaron would put you on birds. I don't hate Echterncamps, but I would not pay for another hunt with them. I'm  sure the fields that we were in produced? just not when we were there.

Here's a recent report from Burbank.  Paul is holding a lot of birds now and should be throughout the remainder of the season.  The only question is if he has any openings!  A good hunt is a Tues duck hunt followed by a Wed goose hunt.  The pond usually gets some rest on Monday! ;)

Here's a pic from last Wednesday at Paul's Pond.

and a far off pic on Thanksgiving day.  He's got about double that amount or more now.

unless your a good repeating client to hunt the triangle. Thats what my report is.

My buddies company books every year with Eagle Lakes, they do that for their customers instead of golf trips. 2 years ago, I was lucky enough to get invited to fill a spot when a guy couldn't make it, since it was already paid for "I said, I am your guy".   :IBCOOL:   I got to see first hand what the "Triangle" was all about. We shot 4 limits of green heads in less than 40 minutes. Only took that long because we were not shooting well the first couple of flocks that came in. Then shot a limit of geese, to finish the day out. Sunday morning, we were done on ducks in 30 minutes for 4 limits.

Not cocaine but all that snow covered stuff between my camera and the birds is Barley.  Which is pretty much the equivelent of duck cocaine.

I went with Northflight out of Moses Lake the weekend before Thanksgiving and three of us limited out.  Had a blast, would totally recommend them.  As a word of caution, I was out in a field near Moses Lake last weekend and there was very little flying.  A lot of water is frozen over there.

I would not pay them if they were the last outfitter over there! but I don't pay anymore. Aaron was trying to get on our place by the sounds of it for this SAT and SUN

We did our first guided hunt with Echternkamps a some years ago and it was great. Did a few more including one where Aaron made me so mad (lied to me) before the hunt the only reason we stayed was my hunting partner begged me not to drive off. I am not sure I would use them again.  >:(
We were over by Moses today and it is pretty frozen up. We would consider a hunt the week after Christmas with someone, but are pretty gun (pun) shy about using any guide at this point.  :yike:

If $$$ isn't a huge concern, you can't go wrong with any of these Eastside outfits:  Burbank, Pacific Wings, Eagle Lakes.  I have hunted with each multiple times in the past 5 years.
I just posted video of a recent (Dec 10) Pacific Wings hunt on my blog that might give you an idea of what kind of action you'd be looking at:  http://ducksdogsdownriggers.blogspot.com/ (http://ducksdogsdownriggers.blogspot.com/)

Why not try walking in at Stillwater? I mean, if no one was shooting while the ducks were trying to roost the night before, and there aren't a bunch of sky busters, and people aren't walking in right at shooting time trying to jump shoot your decoys, you might see some birds. Probably not the volume of moses though. :twocents:

When we were in Potholes Saturday jump shooting we saw nothing except wings of ducks and geese WAY up. 'Bout eight inches of snow on the ground, so it was hard walking, hard on the dogs feet, hard to be quiet. I broke through ice twice with a foot plus jarring drop/stop below. Still fun to get out, but it is more fun to get into some birds.
