Title: Best duck shell under $15/box?
Post by: CP on December 15, 2010, 01:42:11 PM
What’s the best cheap shell out there?

I haven’t found anything that outperforms the Win Xpert. or is cheaper.

I really like the winchester xperts too!  I have had bad luck with the other cheap ones...including remington sportsman...junk!

When they're not sold out, you can by a case of BC 2 3/4"  3's at http://store.rogerssportinggoods.com/servlet/-strse-2638/federal%2C-federal-premium%2C-federal/Detail (http://store.rogerssportinggoods.com/servlet/-strse-2638/federal%2C-federal-premium%2C-federal/Detail) for $139 including shipping, or $14/box.  Can't beat that!

i always had great luck with the federal hi speed steel stuff. usually 15 a box and hammers em right. always had problems with remington and winchester shells. not sure why, but always have. they get jammed a lot for me. federal and heavi metal have never jammed once

Have you tried looking online for them? like Cheaperthandirt.com or anything?  What Estates did you like?

Estates are made by Federal.

Best deal around, 3" 1-1/4oz Federal Steel at Roger's for $99.99 shipped to your door.  Beats Kents, Xperts, and Remington.

I buy most of my shells after the season.  Last year I bought 3 cases at an average of about $5.50 a box.

I havent looked online for them. hate to give up my area. but dennis co. used to stock them and i would always stop by and pick up a couple boxes for $10 apiece. those things worked as good as any steel shot ive ever used under $20. 1 1/4 3"  #2 or BB , i ended up with a case of xperts im shooting this year. but i would trade those in a second for the estates

Over the years Kent Fasteel has been one of the best and consistent patterning shells I've patterned.

i'm having bad luck with sportsmans jamming in my gun.  i wouldn't think that'd be too odd in an auto but it's an 870! i see wally world has nitro steel for around $15 a box, i might have to try those.

I found the winchesters xpert steel at wal mart for 8.50 a box for 2 3/4 and maybe a dollar more for 3 inch, bought a box for me and two for my friend. But usually I just wait for the bi mart sales I rarely pay more than 12 bucks there.

I have my best luck with Kent Fasteel. Best and most consistant patterning load I've patterned. The 'blue box' Federals were some of the worst patterning of the factory loads I tried. Never tried the 'red box' Federals just because of the high price.
I know what this thread is about but price is unimportant if they pattern so bad that you have to shoot 2 or 3 more because they crippled rather than killed. The cheaper shells do not have the quality components in them like the more expensive shells do for the most part.
