LETS SEE WHAT INTERESTING OR WEIRD ITEMS YOU FOUND OUT ELK HUNTING THIS YEAR.
POST PICS AND INFO
THIS COULD BE KINDA FUN THING TO SEE!!
-
Dont have pics, but my buddy found a old backpack with crisco inside.....
About 30 yards away was a "synthetic adult mushroom" full of coyote bite marks... Thing was huge... about 14 inches tall, and about as big around as a chuncky campbells soup can.... the top.... rediculous prolly the side of a 2 liter pop bottle.......
People are weird and must like pain...
:o :o :o
-
Was that up Broke Back Mountain :chuckle: :chuckle:  :o
-
ELK! ;) :chuckle:

If the tribes were forced to play fair, they cracked down more on poachers, and the draw was done correctly (ie you'd get drawn every 2-3 years) then I would absolutely 100% support it. But since the WDFW can't get ANYTHING right then I do not support it. Because they would jack this up just like they jack everything else up.
:dunno: What does this have to do with what stange things are found?? :dunno:

Apparently he found a bizzare post not placed in the proper thread while elk hunting ?

I've found a knife, cheap binos, and my friends ear muffs a year after she lost it. Nothing unusual. Once I saw someone come down the mountain with a 3 legged buck. Totally missing the whole front leg, like it was cut away with a knife with shoulderblade and then healed up.
-
Cows and spikes. :'(
-
Not this year, but several years ago I found a homing pidgeon on a ridge... DAM near shot him thinking he was a grouse, then realized it wasn't...went and picked him up, wrote down his band numbers and put him back... He was from Blackfoot, ID. I was several hundred miles north in Montana at the time...
Indian Artifacts, Moose Sheds... hmmm...and what else have I found.... thats all i can think of right now...
-
Redstar and i found a stump that was on fire in the middle of some overgrowth :dunno: there were some old people tracks close, but nothing recent and no sign that someone had a warming fire, was surrounded by snow and was raining when we found it. put it out and moved on
-
I found an archery killed deer from the night before. oddly enough I offered to back out of the area as the hunters were on their last day and me on my first, I asked them to text me if they were to blow my elk out of the area. they texted me that they killed a deer and did not diturb the elk. the next day I was circling the basin the elk were in and found a dead deer. I asked the guys if they lost one......sure enough they had one get away. I zipped it open and hung it in a tree. must have been good for karma, cause I pulled my and my pards elk out whole.
-
We found this guy down in Oregon during archery season. We also found these crosses up on a ridge. Pretty cool!
-
What was on the crosses :dunno: human :o
-
Yeah they were memorials.
-
I found a bugle...anybody lose one?
my pard claimed it...nice tube.
ya ya...I know it was long and black...LOL tell me the brand and where it was at and you can have it back.
-
I found an area where someone had taken the liberty to use yellow caution tape around the place that they take there morning crap. I didnt have my camera at the time. I wish I would have.
-
Not this year and not elk hunting but turkey hunting a few years ago, I say a skunk with a mayo jar stuck on its head. I heard others saw it also.
-
It wasnt during Elk season. BUT.. During our Sitka deer hunt on Kodiak Island in 08. We used a boat to get to were we wanted to hunt. On one of the beaches was a root wad with a human skull in it. :yike: Notified our transporter, he then notified State patrol. Didnt hear anything else about it though. Looked like it was there for a long time.

If it is in OR, it is probably near Donner Pass. :chuckle:

A few years ago I was hunting on the alkali unit for deer and found a wire guided missile. Not sure if it was real but it was intact, I really wanted to take it home but common sense got the best of me. I also found an indian artifact, it was a skinning rock. It fit perfectly in the palm of my hand and the blade part was still sharp. We also saw tank mines in one area, we hope they were fake.

I can't remember what color it was sorry, but it had the wire sticking out of it and it was about 3' long.
-
Elk :P
-
I was stepping over a log and almost stepped on someone's Fruit of the Looms, interestingly enough, there was a log in them I had to step over as well! :yike:
Gotta love the Winston unit :chuckle:
35+ years of hunting/fishing and I don't remember finding anything worth a damn :dunno:
-
The only thing I found this year was a pissed off bull moose that did not like me being there so he decided to take out a couple good size trees and come after me. Luckly when he stopped at about 10 ft he realized I was just a little guy and not worth his time and went the other way. Had to change my shorts after that one so somebody might find those someday...

Oh, if it was white and red it was mine. I've been wondering where that thing flew off to.

That SUCKS! i'm sorry.
-
You guys can get fined for messing with trees like that.... :chuckle:
-
It wasn't mine.
Just found it after cutting tree's out of the road for 16 miles.
No one was around.
-
thats funny sort of. Years ago I found a mazda truck in the same condition. It was south of packwood in the hills and the tree had already been removed. Funny thing was the tree had been felled on the truck. The truck had a bunch of mushroom picker baskets in the back, I think somebody spoiled some loggers hunt. Over the next week or two every time I went by sonething else was missing off the truck. All that is left now is the frame.

Looks like you fell the tree in the wrong direction!! :chuckle:

Well, I didnt find it, but there is a burned out newer Chevy on the edge of the Mill Creek Watershed boundry....wondering if anyone had the scoop on that?
-
tweakers
-
I found a few of these
-
How about you guys go to hell... You know damn well I'm NOT YELLING!! Capital Letters or NOT!!
Why don't you go back to Hunters Education cause most of you on here are probably poachers anyways!!
To the other 90% that aren't good luck hunting and finding good things in the woods.
Sorry to hear about that guys truck that he lost out elk hunting... That damn wind sucks sometimes!!
-
Yelm its time for you to take a break and chill out. Show some respect to the moderators.
-
The rocket with a wire hanging out of it was a TOW missile. Tube launched, Optically sighted, Wire guided. Usually fired off of some vehicles and helicopters.
-
I think Yelm hunter forgot to take his med's..... Do you think that TOW missile was dangerous? I wouldn't think it would be but left it alone just in case. I really wanted to take it home, but didn't want to spend time in jail for a long period of time.

Did you look in the cab?

About 15 years ago when I was a kid I found a wrecked Cessna up in Colockum. It had crashed in a canyon several months earlier and hadn't been found yet. Obviously no survivors. Shot a 500 pound bear later that evening. A day of huntin I'll never forget!

A 500 lb bear? Pics please.

Great, I gotta see that....I cannot imagine one that large, I know it happens.......my two scrawny bears looked big in the scope...can't imagine dropping a 500lber...

Last Modern elk season I was hunting some timber. In the middle of the timber patch I found about an 18-20 foot fiberglass boat with no motors. had the boat numbers 03 tabs on it. Might have go back and try to find it for some pics. Have no idea how it got there :dunno:

Were there bodies inside still?

Well, I didnt find it, but there is a burned out newer Chevy on the edge of the Mill Creek Watershed boundry....wondering if anyone had the scoop on that?
you sure it wasn't a dodge?
-
Yelm you need get the bug out of your a$$. I remember my first beer!
-
The burnt truck may have been a Dodge...Thought it was a Chevy though. :dunno:
It's right on the boundry.
-
if it's the one off the blacksnake access, that'd be a dodge. we surmised it was someone not wanting to give it back to the bank! :yike:
-
Hope he doesn't have a dog to kick :dunno: :chuckle:
-
I forgot that I did run across this in my travels this year. I went back 2 hours later to retrieve and it was gone.
-
I hate when that happens!! Pisses me off

Yes, if it was intact, then it is dangerous, because they are supposed to explode on contact. Jeep is right, it was most likely a TOW Missile. It could also have been a Dragon Missile, but chances are it was a TOW. Dragons are shoulder fired and carried by light infantry troops, TOW Missiles are fired off vehicles (HMMWVs, APCs and Bradleys mostly). Most of the training that goes on at YTC is for heavy infantry, armor units and their attachments. That, and the Dragon has been out of the Army's inventory for a few years. :twocents:
-
A few years back after that huge windstorm, I was driving up the road in the Bethel unit during the elk hunt and someone had carved a gigantic looking *censored* out of one of the fallen trees. I was overhanging the road and caused you to drive around it. I have a picture of my buddies girlfriend straddling it somewhere. If I can dig it up, I will post it for everyone.
-
I forgot that I did run across this in my travels this year. I went back 2 hours later to retrieve and it was gone.
Looks like someone had to go back to the house for a wedge... :chuckle: (..and I hate when that happens too...)

Wasn't elk hunting late archery deer. Found a wallet up on Birch mt. Young kid had money credit cards pictures military id. and his room key. Tryed to get a hold of him stationed at fort Lewis. Ended up giving it to the wenatchee police. Needed some CARMA POINTS

Now that's funny. Does anyone know if yelm has got his new prescription yet?
-
Yelm has the option to lock and close the thread I believe, as the author (On most forums anyways, haven't looked on this one). That's probably what he's referring to.
On numerous occasions I've found calls. . . During late archery in Winston a couple years back I found a Cow Girl call. . . In Idaho shed hunting this past spring I found a grunt call too.
-
Alan, locking and closing the thread is for the Mods...
-
Me and My dad found a dog in the clockum one time... it ended up being one of the sheep herders dogs its was tired and hungry so we put it in the back of the truck gave it food and water and found the sheep farmer.
I found a knife one time phesant hunting.
I also found a canopy from a truck in the clockum on an old logging road.

found someones release during archery season on a stump. pretty old been there awhile about 5 miles in so i bet he/she was pissed if they ran into a elk. lol
-
Well i have odd story this year elk hunting. I was hunting gmu 352 late archery hunt. 3 day of hunt i had hiked about 3 miles up this trail that leads to an old wood tree stand. Someone had rebuilt the stand so i climbed up. Just as i was getting comfortable i looked to my back which wasn't a open shooting lane. Under a fallen tree i saw pant legs and boots sticking out. My first thought was someone feel out of the stand. climbed down to investigate. AS i was pulling the branches bad noticed a face and hat. I thought oh no. I pulled the rest of branches away there was a sign on the chest. It read please don't take i use this dummy in the stand to get the elk comfortable with someone in the stand. I was glad that was a dummy. :o
-
That would of scared the crap outta me! :yike:
-
That is crazy.
-
That is crazy.
No kidding!!! I may have just called authorities and then looked like a complete fool when they discovered that it was just a dummy. :chuckle:
-
That's a crazy story beckbuzz, Someone took alot of time setting the dummy up.
Also this year while archery elk hunting I found a range finder some one lost. It was still in working order. Hopefully the person that lost it didn't miss a big 6x6 elk because of it. :chuckle: No luck finding the person that owned it.
-
two years ago. wasting some time in the Vail tree farm during deer season my dad found a pair of broken Nikon 10x50s on a landing sent them to Nikon and because they didn't have that make anymore they sent him the newer version of the ones he found. only cost him for shipping. my brother got a decent pair of glass from that deal. guess it wasn't a total waste of a weekend...
-
During modern deer on the eastside this year while glassing the hillside I found a women butt naked and a man with his pants down. Soon as they seen me they had no intensions on finishing. Looked like they were photographing each other. I felt weird and I was 200+ away.
-
Hard to beat a story about a naked women in the woods  but I found a bear hunting dog when it was legal to run them. We took him home and it almost ate my cat. Didnt take long for the owner to come get him (after we called).
-
I found a hoochie mamma a couple years back
-
Most interesting thing would probably be the bull moose. Rounded a corner and there he was bedded about 25 yards off. He saw me, got up, peed. Seemed he was annoyed that I disturbed his nap. He walked off down hill towards the lake. Watched him the whole while, too much trouble getting the ice of the pack to get to the camera.
-
I found an arrow while hunting in the nile two years back. Found a sweat shirt I lost a few years earlier when I was deer hunting in Prescott. my dad found a nice pair of Pentax binos while doing a pack in elk hunt past Pack wood in the early 90's.
-
I found a hoochie mamma a couple years back
haha by the sounds of it so did rjn cajun! :P
-
One of My friends found a nice rangefinder a couple years ago, My dad found an old revolver still in its holster, and I found a small chainsaw this year. I found the Chainsaw owner looking for it the next day. The owner of the revolver was sure happy after Dad found him.
-

haha by the sounds of it so did rjn cajun! :P
Couldn`t tell it was to far to get a good view. But she sure did need a tan. Stuck out like a soar thumb on a hogs back in the sun.
-
You guyz keep finding Hoochie Mamma's lying out there because the best thing you can do with that bathtub toy is give it a good fling into the bottom of a deep canyon... :chuckle:
What you found was probably the result of some poor sap scaring off his ump-teenth elk with one. :chuckle: :bash:
-
This might not be so weird but in 2009 I was glassing a clearcut and saw a bleach white shed laying in the middle of the clearcut so I went and retieved it. Made me feel a little better about getting skunked opening day. Anywho, next day I got my buck. Got it back home, compared the buck and the shed and they were a perfect match if you allowed one more year of growth. Shot the buck about an air mile away from the shed. Sorry, don't have a pic.
-
Sorry guys, new to the board and forgot I was on the Elk forum. Just make believe I said Bull instead of buck.
I can't imagine what Yelm is gonna say. Lol.
-
Stopped to pee on the side of the road above Packwood and looked down the hill and found one of those little 5 h.p. mini bikes. Took it home and got it running and my son rode it around and around and around the house till it wore out. I never thought to look for the rider somewhere down the hill. :dunno:
-
...I was glassing a clearcut and saw a bleach white shed laying in the middle of the clearcut so I went and retieved it.
Man, it's time to go to bed. When you said "shed", I was thinking a small structure that holds equipment/tools. It took me a bit to realize you meant antlers.
-
2010 season I found a cow elk skeloton with a tracking collar turned it in to wdfw. 2009 found a some type of weather instrament that they drop out of plane mailed it in with the provided bag. I lost a Berrys game calls thunder bugle 2 seasons ago in gmu 607 I know the exact coordinates ain't been back to get it in the middle of BFE.
-
oh yeah! burgers for the boys! oh yeah!
-
In the last couple of years I found a cell phone, a bugle (NOT 607 or otherwise I'd be happy to return it - I already have a couple of bugles), a hat that looked like it should've been worn by a WWI pilot (not leather but that same funky design), lots of balloons, an old rusted out yarder, a glove - but nothing super interesting. On a scouting trip I found a flashlight in the middle of the road that says something about a "Safety Award" on it. Apparently not safe enough to secure it, I guess.
-
Found a black jerry curl lookin wig on top of Mt near a radio tower that somehow ended up in one of my buddies sleeping bag, that was funny
Found a pink vibrator in the pine needles where a bunch of trailers were during elk season after they left.
It was placed on a stump next to the dirt road at full salute, was gone day or so later, figured the lady forest ranger confiscated it. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Lmao awsome madmax
-
It was frickin hilarious, every time we drove past that *censored* we just about wet ourselves laughing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,suddenly it was completely gone.
It was up near Tamarack springs above the Taneum
I got to say though the thing we find the most during elk season, that we are not looking for,,,,,,,,,,, are road turds AKA man poop, whats with that ?
It only takes a second to get out of the dirt road and into the brush, the damm fools!
-
found a crescent wrench, hoochie mama this year. During spring bear on Memorial day weekend in one camp site - I found an arrow, fire extinguisher, 6 foot folding table, porta pottie, and a bunch of garbage.
I kept the fire extinguisher and had it recharged, table is now mine, I had the arrow cut to my length and tried a different brand. cleaned up some of the garbage, but didn't touch the used porta pottie.
-
Found a fake women mid section with all the parts lol and bunch of pornos
-
Found this in the mudflow unit.
-
Crappy, whats the scoop wth that rig? Stolen?
-
What's interesting and intriging to one reader may not be for another.
This will interest only a few of you. Hunting a ridge I came upon a piebald spike deer. He was right out of 101 dalmations. The brown spots were normal. The white areas had 6 inch long hair and real fine. Ears looked like a long haired white rabbit.
Next is the hard to believe one. William O Douglas wilderness. I find a balloon a couple of miles from a road. The balloon had "Happy Birthday" on it. By coincidence, it was my birthday.
Then there was the 'black ops' one. I was buzzed by real low flying jets. I could see the pilot. Then a c-130 type at about 100 feet above the tree tops. I was on a ridge and noticed a beacon like device staked to the ground. A year later when I returned, the device was gone. From broken branches overhead, I am guessing it was choppered out.
Does having white pellets rain down on you count? Opening day. Apparently the Weyerhaeser people did not get the message and were spreading fertilizer by chopper.
Hunting Saint Helens up close one year. I was about a mile from the top and found a 5 point bull that was gut shot.
Apparently, someone had made a long range shot from below and did not realize he had hit the elk. The elk had been dead for a couple of days.
-
Pops found this beauty out there....
-
Hey, I recognize that ole fart. :chuckle:
-
Hey, I recognize that ole fart. :chuckle:
He still does real well up and down those hills....even with his fake knee~!
-
One areas we hunt seems to be where balloons go to die…. we have found 10 or more in a 1 mile area. It’s a bit of a running joke between my hunting partner and I.
-
I keep finding game cameras chained to trees..... :chuckle:
(just kidding guys!)
-
Atleast your leaving them there
-

I have seen that hiking but never hunting. Except they wer making a movie :chuckle:
-
Crappy, whats the scoop wth that rig? Stolen?
I reported it and was told that the rig was stolen around the Fort Lewis area a year before I came across it. DNR knew it was there but did not want trucks on that road system at the time it was first reported (not by me). Since then it became DNR's problem and just seemed to fall off their list of *censored* to do. Rig had active duty stickers in the window.
-
FOUND A GERBER KNIFE ON LOWER TRAP CREEK ROAD 2 YEARS AGO, BENCHMADE KNIFE ON 700 RD @ APALOOSA OLD CAMP OFF WILDWOOD RD. HAD IT FOR TEN YEARS AND LEFT IT ON MY BUMPER.
-
I found a really old small rainier beer glass bottle. Nothing special because there is loads of them out there, but this one was in near mint condition haha.

Now this is not exactly weird, but it snowed and the tent camp next to me used straw to sleep on. The straw attracted dozens and dozens of mice. And I mean dozens.

About 30 years ago I was hunting the jackman crk area in Skagit County. Back than you could drive to everett lake. on the way out we found a hound dog all tired and sore. He had his owners name on the collar so I picked him up and put him in the back of my truck.
Went a couple miles and a cougar was laying in the road in the afternoon sun. Cougar took off up hill and the hound jumped out and gave chase.
I called the owner when I got down and told him where is dog was and to take a gun.

Drivin to our deer spot from Wenatchee this season, we came across a bow case in the middle of the road. Pulled over, and it had a brand new Mathews bow with all the arrows ready to go (over $1000). 30 minutes later, we caught up to a truck with his tailgate down, and another bow case just about ready to fall out.
I pulled the guys over, and said," You guys want to buy a bow from me? I'm selling a new Mathews (and showed it to him)! He about sh his pants.
His lucky day!

During modern deer on the eastside this year while glassing the hillside I found a women butt naked and a man with his pants down. Soon as they seen me they had no intensions on finishing. Looked like they were photographing each other. I felt weird and I was 200+ away.
I have seen that hiking but never hunting. Except they wer making a movie :chuckle:
Now that's what you call "Stump Broke ".

No pictures, but in September 2008 my bro-in-law and I came across a wanted fugitive down a trail by elk camp.......He was dead from starvation. The bad part was that there was no reward. >:(

Sorry no pics but few years back I found a complete V-8 engine. Called it in and had it checked. No record of it being stolen. Came back a few months later and it was still there.
Drug it down to the road and rolled it into the back of my truck thinking it would just be extra scrap in my next load recycling. Turned out to be a pretty nice engine once it was all cleaned up and overhauled. Still in my kids car.
Best I can figure is that someone changed engines and threw this one out as scrap not knowing what they were throwing away.

found this a couple of years ago

Found this with my Son and his friend in the Umptanum unit elk hunting.

Hiking up a trail in the Bumping about 4 miles in from the trailhead came across ten 300 win mag shells laying along about 100 yards of trail. They'd obviously fallen out of a pack while someone was riding horseback. I made a neat little pile on top of a stump right next to the trail so someone might stand of a chance of seeing them on their way out. Hope he brought more than 10 shells with him!

I found a duffle full of porn and young girl's night clothes in the Willapa Hills. It was one of the creepiest things I'd ever seen and told the cops where to find it. It was disgusting.
