About 30 yards away was a "synthetic adult mushroom" full of coyote bite marks... Thing was huge... about 14 inches tall, and about as big around as a chuncky campbells soup can.... the top.... rediculous prolly the side of a 2 liter pop bottle.......
People are weird and must like pain...

Once I saw someone come down the mountain with a 3 legged buck. Totally missing the whole front leg, like it was cut away with a knife with shoulderblade and then healed up.

DAM near shot him thinking he was a grouse, then realized it wasn't...went and picked him up, wrote down his band numbers and put him back... He was from Blackfoot, ID. I was several hundred miles north in Montana at the time...

Indian Artifacts, Moose Sheds... hmmm...and what else have I found.... thats all i can think of right now...

Post by: high country on December 20, 2010, 07:51:36 AM: I found an archery killed deer from the night before. oddly enough I offered to back out of the area as the hunters were on their last day and me on my first, I asked them to text me if they were to blow my elk out of the area. they texted me that they killed a deer and did not diturb the elk. the next day I was circling the basin the elk were in and found a dead deer. I asked the guys if they lost one......sure enough they had one get away. I zipped it open and hung it in a tree. must have been good for karma, cause I pulled my and my pards elk out whole.

On one of the beaches was a root wad with a human skull in it. :yike: Notified our transporter, he then notified State patrol. Didnt hear anything else about it though. Looked like it was there for a long time.

Not sure if it was real but it was intact, I really wanted to take it home but common sense got the best of me. I also found an indian artifact, it was a skinning rock. It fit perfectly in the palm of my hand and the blade part was still sharp. We also saw tank mines in one area, we hope they were fake.

I can't remember what color it was sorry, but it had the wire sticking out of it and it was about 3' long.

Luckly when he stopped at about 10 ft he realized I was just a little guy and not worth his time and went the other way. Had to change my shorts after that one so somebody might find those someday...

It was south of packwood in the hills and the tree had already been removed. Funny thing was the tree had been felled on the truck. The truck had a bunch of mushroom picker baskets in the back, I think somebody spoiled some loggers hunt. Over the next week or two every time I went by sonething else was missing off the truck. All that is left now is the frame.

In the middle of the timber patch I found about an 18-20 foot fiberglass boat with no motors. had the boat numbers 03 tabs on it. Might have go back and try to find it for some pics. Have no idea how it got there :dunno:

Yes, if it was intact, then it is dangerous, because they are supposed to explode on contact. Jeep is right, it was most likely a TOW Missile. It could also have been a Dragon Missile, but chances are it was a TOW. Dragons are shoulder fired and carried by light infantry troops, TOW Missiles are fired off vehicles (HMMWVs, APCs and Bradleys mostly). Most of the training that goes on at YTC is for heavy infantry, armor units and their attachments. That, and the Dragon has been out of the Army's inventory for a few years. :twocents:

I was overhanging the road and caused you to drive around it. I have a picture of my buddies girlfriend straddling it somewhere. If I can dig it up, I will post it for everyone.

I was hunting gmu 352 late archery hunt. 3 day of hunt i had hiked about 3 miles up this trail that leads to an old wood tree stand. Someone had rebuilt the stand so i climbed up. Just as i was getting comfortable i looked to my back which wasn't a open shooting lane. Under a fallen tree i saw pant legs and boots sticking out. My first thought was someone feel out of the stand. climbed down to investigate. AS i was pulling the branches bad noticed a face and hat. I thought oh no. I pulled the rest of branches away there was a sign on the chest. It read please don't take i use this dummy in the stand to get the elk comfortable with someone in the stand. I was glad that was a dummy. :o

Made me feel a little better about getting skunked opening day. Anywho, next day I got my buck. Got it back home, compared the buck and the shed and they were a perfect match if you allowed one more year of growth. Shot the buck about an air mile away from the shed. Sorry, don't have a pic.

On a scouting trip I found a flashlight in the middle of the road that says something about a "Safety Award" on it. Apparently not safe enough to secure it, I guess.

It was up near Tamarack springs above the Taneum

I got to say though the thing we find the most during elk season, that we are not looking for,,,,,,,,,,, are road turds AKA man poop, whats with that ?
It only takes a second to get out of the dirt road and into the brush, the damm fools!

Post by: whacker1 on March 11, 2011, 01:42:16 PM: found a crescent wrench, hoochie mama this year. During spring bear on Memorial day weekend in one camp site - I found an arrow, fire extinguisher, 6 foot folding table, porta pottie, and a bunch of garbage.

I kept the fire extinguisher and had it recharged, table is now mine, I had the arrow cut to my length and tried a different brand. cleaned up some of the garbage, but didn't touch the used porta pottie.

This will interest only a few of you. Hunting a ridge I came upon a piebald spike deer. He was right out of 101 dalmations. The brown spots were normal. The white areas had 6 inch long hair and real fine. Ears looked like a long haired white rabbit.

Next is the hard to believe one. William O Douglas wilderness. I find a balloon a couple of miles from a road. The balloon had "Happy Birthday" on it. By coincidence, it was my birthday.

Then there was the 'black ops' one. I was buzzed by real low flying jets. I could see the pilot. Then a c-130 type at about 100 feet above the tree tops. I was on a ridge and noticed a beacon like device staked to the ground. A year later when I returned, the device was gone. From broken branches overhead, I am guessing it was choppered out.

Does having white pellets rain down on you count? Opening day. Apparently the Weyerhaeser people did not get the message and were spreading fertilizer by chopper.
Hunting Saint Helens up close one year. I was about a mile from the top and found a 5 point bull that was gut shot.
Apparently, someone had made a long range shot from below and did not realize he had hit the elk. The elk had been dead for a couple of days.

I reported it and was told that the rig was stolen around the Fort Lewis area a year before I came across it. DNR knew it was there but did not want trucks on that road system at the time it was first reported (not by me). Since then it became DNR's problem and just seemed to fall off their list of *censored* to do. Rig had active duty stickers in the window.

Back than you could drive to everett lake. on the way out we found a hound dog all tired and sore. He had his owners name on the collar so I picked him up and put him in the back of my truck.
Went a couple miles and a cougar was laying in the road in the afternoon sun. Cougar took off up hill and the hound jumped out and gave chase.
I called the owner when I got down and told him where is dog was and to take a gun.

Pulled over, and it had a brand new Mathews bow with all the arrows ready to go (over $1000). 30 minutes later, we caught up to a truck with his tailgate down, and another bow case just about ready to fall out.
I pulled the guys over, and said," You guys want to buy a bow from me? I'm selling a new Mathews (and showed it to him)! He about sh his pants.

Post by: t6 on April 24, 2011, 06:21:33 PM: Sorry no pics but few years back I found a complete V-8 engine. Called it in and had it checked. No record of it being stolen. Came back a few months later and it was still there.

Drug it down to the road and rolled it into the back of my truck thinking it would just be extra scrap in my next load recycling. Turned out to be a pretty nice engine once it was all cleaned up and overhauled. Still in my kids car.

Best I can figure is that someone changed engines and threw this one out as scrap not knowing what they were throwing away.

They'd obviously fallen out of a pack while someone was riding horseback. I made a neat little pile on top of a stump right next to the trail so someone might stand of a chance of seeing them on their way out. Hope he brought more than 10 shells with him!
