Been thinking about going traditional. Anybody know anything about these? I will try to get out and shoot them both but would like to know others opinions as well. Or if anyone has any suggestions for other bows in this price range. Thanks

I have shot the Montana. I thought it was a pretty good bow. Smooth to draw and no great hand shock. I think it would be worth the money. IMO
-
OK, thanks.
Another question, what incentive do i have to shoot a long bow over a recurve? just the fact that its more traditional, or something else?
-
For most people, it is easier to make the transition from cpound to trad if they use a recurve. Basically, it's because the hand position is more similar with a high or medium grip style. The longbow grip usually has the heel of your hand down flat that takes some 'getting used to'.
You will see that at most shoots, recurve scores average higher than longbow. When you are learning its sure more fun to shoot well.
That said, once you get past the learning curve many shooters find longbows, particularly modern reflex/ deflex hybrid longbows to be more forgiving because there is no string contact at the tips, eliminating (most of) the consequence of torquing the riser. R/D longbows especially those with carbon limbs are as fast or faster than recurves of the same draw weight.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards the longbow, but i havent shot either of them yet so i may change my mind.

You can't really go wrong with either one, but, I'd lean more towards the Montana. A longbow is a tad more "forgiving" for a mistake in form. They're generally a little more quiet to shoot also.
I likes my Grizzly recurve, but, I'd rather have a Montana.
