Title: remington 700 sps
Post by: HighCountryHunter88 on December 28, 2010, 08:19:04 PM: i got my eye on one in 300 win. how does it compare to a tikka or vangaurd or any other rifle in the same price range? any imput would be great

I also have a Tikka t3 lite in 300 WSM it's a great shooting gun as well.

I've shot it a few times. its nice. .223 with the bull barrel, it never heats up. great at the range.

[/quote/) I have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint 223rem. too. Love the gun. Very accurate and like you said barrel never really heats up. You can shoot and shoot.

IF i were to do it different i would have gotten a tikka .223 because of the tighter rate of twist. If i go over 55 grainers with mine they go haiwire

slight thread jack here, Just curious why you like the CDL better for out in the woods?

Post by: runningboard on December 30, 2010, 07:50:28 PM: had 1 in 270, 1 in 223 and still have one in 7mm-08. love 'em but be careful if stalking in close you bump or pull that hollow stock thru brush it will be LOUD. other than that great, the 7mm-08 has the x-mark trigger and it is tuned to a crisp 3 pounds.

I've been amazed at how well my Tikka shoots, and some of the stories I've heard from others. I finally got my M70 shooting well, but don't like the feel of the safety compared to the M700 (need to move hand forward to turn off safety, unlike the M700). That said, I think M70's are put together with more precision than the others. I'll probably hunt with a M700 though for the rest of my life.

Post by: jgregg on January 14, 2011, 10:07:15 AM: I shoot a 700 sps in 7mm mag and it's a great rifle. My dad shoots a tikka t3 in .270. His gun and mine both wear nikon buckmaster 3-9x40 scopes and fully loaded his is much lighter than my remington. If you're going with a mountain/hiking rifle go with the tikka. They both easily put sub moa groups downrange. The weight of the remington makes it a little less jumpy offhand but I suppose practice is the key with either. Both great rifles.

I have a Tikka in 300 Win Mag and I have to say it is the most accurate hunting rifle Ive ever owned, It just shoots beautifully, I traded my tikka 22-250 on a remington sps stainless in 22-250 and it to is a great rifle. For quality and accuracy they are both great guns you should choose whichever feels and handles better for you. I have one of the original 1962 models in 7mm Mag, it shoots almost as true and has a much nicer trigger than the new factory guns despite it's many years of abuse. Personally I think its hard to beat the good ol' Model 700.
