Is this something new this year? I was just double checking my regs since I was thinking of hitting the lower Columbia this Saturday and saw where goose hunting will be closed. It was closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and will be closed New Years Day. Is this because of the lack of enforcement on those days? Only reason I can think of for a stupid closure like that.

I assume it is because all geese must be checked by a WDFW officer and offices will probably be closed.

Talked to the checker in 2B last week and the way she made it sound is they changed it so they wouldn't have to pay the employees time and a half for working holidays, trying to save the money I imagine.

Made a few phone calls to the WDFW today. Asked about area 2 closure for Dusky quota closure. No one knew anything about it. Asked about checking geese shot in area 2A but not being able to make it in time to a check station. No one knew anthing again. Asked about goose hunting closure for Nov 25, Dec 25 and Jan 1. First WDFW knew nothing. Second 'guessed' it was because the Feds wouldn't be manning the check stations. Still waiting on a call back from enforcement and also left a message on the Waterfowl manager's voicemail. He's out till Monday.
I'd like to stick up for the WDFW but I'm not impressed.

They look for any reason to close the goose season. WDFW treats it like a stepchild. You actually have to talk to one of the 3 people who know what's going on. Good luck with that, they seem not to care. :twocents:

Been waitng 3 days now for a return call from WDFW enforcement. Sometimes I think they forget that hunters pay their salaries.
