I'd like to get a compact .40 or .45. I'm interested in a dependable semi-auto gun, but not necessarily a top end gun (price is a factor). I'm thinking about an XD or something similar. It needs to be small enough to conceal easily. Any suggestions?

Glock 23 .40 cal. I've had it for 20 years.
-
I bought a compact 40 cal sw 2 years ago its been a great gun. it packs a good punch and good speed, holds 8 and conceals well. it always fires and no problems, hope you find the right gun...
-
A month ago I got a three gun deal that I bought a XD40 in the deal.
I really wanted a Glock.I just shoot them pretty well. But I took the deal.
I traded it for a glock 22 a week later.The 23 is a great size for CC.
Either caliber is perfect for defense too,but I would go shoot both to see which one fits you best.
If you gots no price limit, then go look at the H&K and the Sigs.A little spendy but great guns.
For the money it's hard to beat a Glock, though

I like the Springfield Companyon .45

xd or glock for price I think you are looking at.
-
40 xdm get the smaller barrel if you want a little more compact.
-
I sport a Glock23 .40, compact. Great gun. The ammo is easier and cheaper to find that the 45acp. Clip holds 13 (I think).
-
My vote goes for the Glock 27.
A little smaller than the compact XD. (significantly shorter height) Goes bang every time. Accurate too. And with nine in the magazine, has firepower to spare.
-
I'd go with the glock. I had a dx. some peaple like then i hated mine. I now have a glock33 in 357 sig and a 40 cal berral for it. it's alots better gun imo.

Who makes the dx? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

sorry having a dyslectic moment lol. XD

I have the Glock 27 and like it. It is nice because when I use my inside the waist holster, you can't see it even with just a t-shirt on. I also have the 22 which if in a bad situation, I can use the 22 mags in the 27. I get a pretty good discount through my company and got the 27 with night sights for $450.

I have the DX; it is manufactured by Fieldspring! :IBCOOL:

I had the same dilemma about a month ago. My buddy shoots glock and I found the Springfield XDM line. I don't have a large hand and the Glock just felt to bulky in the handle for me. I also was debating between the 40 and 45. I did a lot of research and found that the XDM to be IMO as good as the Glock and fit my hand very well with the medium grip insert. I bought the XDM 3.8 40 S&W and it is awesome. I conceal carry with the XDM no problem. Springfield is also releasing a compact version of the XDM 3.8 40 the end of this month.

:chuckle: They must be new :chuckle: I am going to have to check them out. Hope the guys at the gun counter can help me out. When i ask them for the new dx, i keep hearing about :lol4:

I have the Blackhawk Leather Pancake for my XDM 40 I like it quality stuff. . The mags for the XDM 3.8 40 are 16 rds too.

ya but the thing with the xd is ya it might have a shorter barrel but that is the easy part to hide, you cant hide a full sized grip very good under a t-shirt like you can a smaller (shorter) one like the glock. it is pointless to me to buy a gun for a ccw if it is damn near a full sized gun, if your are going to buy the xd 3.8 with 16 rd mags you might as well buy an xd with a 4.5" barrel :dunno:
-
my older brother has an XD 40 sub compact that he loves and i have a sig 226 in 357 sig that im very happy i spent the money to get. both are great guns but the 226 is big for carry i think. not a fan of glocks really but thats just me...
-
Get a Commander sized 1911 in 45acp.
single stack conceals much better and I shoot 45acp much better.

I carry a full size xdm just about every day. Its not to hard to hide, the 3.8 might be a little nicer then say a full size. When it comes to sitting in the car. That's the only time i feel mine and its the barrel. So the 3.8 might fix that problem.

I'll cast another vote for the Glock Model 23, Mine Won't rust and it goes bang everytime I pull the trigger, except for one time I was practicing left handed and it stovepiped :o I like the serpa holster also. But hey while your shopping don't forget to check out the Model 29, It's compact and .40 caliber to, just more power :)

I dont have an issue with conceal. If you think you might then buy the NEW just put up on Sprinfields site XDM 3.8 40 S&W Compact, 11 rds with the stubby and 19rds with the extension comes with one of each. That cuts about an inch off the hanlde so it would be like the Glock.

+1 for GLOCK 23 :IBCOOL:

I've carried a Colt Officer's ACP for years. 20 or so. You don't need high capacity in a personal defense gun.

I like my XD subcompact .40

:yeah: it doesn't mater how many rounds you have as long as you practice like you should if your going to carry, its all about shot placement just like any thing else.

That is certainly true. I'd advise anyone to practice to be proficient in a self defense situation. Remember, If we're ever confronted, it'll probably be at close proximity. Don't be caught up in needing a high-cap gun for every day carry. LEO's may or may not be in a close prox situation and may have multiple targets, because... They're usually 'looking' for the fight. Where-as, we should be looking to avoid the fight. (that is not derogitory towards LEO's but they are in that situation more often, looking for the bad guy.) And don't take it that I believe that no one needs to have a hand gun that holds 23rds. I carry a five shot revolver Quite often though.

Another vote for the Glock 27. I also like the G23 and the G30 (if you prefer 45 ACP). If you are looking to buy a Glock and want to save some money, join the Glock Shooting Sports Foundation (GSSF). You can buy one Glock per year at LEO discount prices with your membership card at a participating Glock dealer.
