Primos Wench call. That will get you started.
-
Primos wench :IBCOOL: I have spent tons of money on duck calls. But my wench is always with me. Good cheap call that will serve you well.

After what Jeff Foiles did, I'm not going to endorse any thing associated with him.

Every call mentioned above will do you real fine. I have a couple Primos calls(Phat Lady, Yo Mama) and a couple Haydels and they're all darn good. Buck Gardner Dbl Nasty is one of my favorites. My all time favorite is the Iverson my wife bought me 25 yrs ago. They were $59.00 in the glass case at downtown LL Bean in Seattle. A guy would stand there and let ya try out everyone. Very cool. They're a little more these days.
I'll put in vote for a single reed call over most dbl reeds at least for a main call.
-
maybe it's just me but having owned both a quackhead and a wench, i'd grab the quackhead j-frame every time.
my favorite's got to be my buck gardner spitfire...not too shabby at 30 bucks.

Good point, you don't need to buy one of his calls to go "Parking" :bfg:
-
j frame all day every day!!!!!!

Can't go wrong with any of those calls. I really like my wench and my DR-85 but for a call under $50 I will reach for my Foiles Legend more often than not. It does like to stick sometimes so I use a trick I heard Eric Strand give one time and that is to put a little bit of chapstick or rain-x on your reeds and that helps quite a bit. We are not sponsored by any of those companies, so that is not a sells pitch. I just like what has worked for me, but you may not like the call at all. Hope you find a call that fits you well and good luck!

Hey ragged,
what happend to Troy Taylors call business? He give it up?
-
I use a Hunter's Specialties Loudmouth and love it. I would suggest any of their calls!
-
you'll end up finding the ability to kill ducks, has very little to do with the call.
-
Hey Hot Lunch I think he might do a little bit of work here and there but the guide business he and Rob are doing keeps them fairly busy. I think it's a combination of a few things but really not my place, you know?
-
i have the buck gardner double nastey i started out on that call and is the call i always use. if your just getting started i would pick up a cd and watch it and listen to those guys and that will help you out alot on calling.
-
Primos Wench or R-N-T Under $50

:yeah: I couldn't agree more! He's got a great set of guts in that call!

Very true. I used to just use a whistle from time to time about 20 years ago. I did very little calling back then. Only call now if I see the birds trying to set down else where. I try to work them into range to make good shots.
-
:yeah:I have been doing real good with a whistle. Its something differant than what every one else uses.Or i just do short quacks .
-

amen!
-
Lots of options already thrown out here. Haydel Dr-85, Buck Gardner Double Nasty, Zink powerhen, quackhead
lots of options to choose from and after you buy your first you will want more

I bought my 1st acrylic call last year ( RNT short barrel) and love it, sounds great down low and has just enough to let out some noise. I want to try the foiles straight meat mallard next.
