I have hunted for a bull elk worthy of a shoulder mount for many seasons. In December of 2006 I got a bull in the late hunt near Cle Elum. Rod's Taxidermy in Arlington did the work and I am very happy with the elk. I felt like I should share some photos. He is just an average sized Washington bull, but he takes up a lot of space. I think I will start hunting antlerless elk with the bow for awhile...until I get some more space!

hunterofelk- Congratulations on a very nice bull and a well done mount! Do you have a story that goes with that? Thanks for posting!

Nice looking average sized bull :tung: Man would I love to shot an average sized elk like that, sure looks like a trophy to me. Beatiful taxidermy job also, looks incredible.
-
not sure "average sized bull" is a good way to describe him. he looks great. congrats and thanks for sharing the pics

i would love to see your version of a big bull. I would make that a centerpiece any day of the week. Nicely done.

Very nice, He looks a bit better than average to me! Do you have a score on him?
-
"Avarage sized Washington Bull" LOL, ya he is pretty average alright......since you need the space, I have the perfect spot for just an average sized bull right in the middle of my living room wall. I believe you could convince me to take that "average sized bull" off you hands if you tried, LOL.
Great looking mount on a great bull Hunterofelk, I like that pile of bone you have hanging behind him as well.

Just curious how much does a shoulder mount like that sets a person back. I've heard it costs big money but i'm curious to help me decide how to handle an elk when packing it out.

Awesome mount!

Rod does great work. I checked out his shop last year before going on the early high buck hunt (just in case I'd need his services ;)) and he had some great stuff. Nice bull.

Nice I would shoot that anyday

It all depends on where you take it one what you will pay. In my shop you can expect to pay anywhere from $675 (Spike) up to $880 (Mature Bull) for a shoulder mount. Open mouth is an aditional $150, and detachable antlers are $100.
Prices in this area range between $650 and $1,200 for a shoulder mount. It all depends on who you take it to. I will say beware of price shopping for the cheapest price. Look for quality first. Why spend the $650 on something that will look like trash in a few years when you can spend $100 - $200 more for something that will last for many years.

Great Bull!! Looks good done. I've had Rod do 3 Deer and an Antelope for me. I think he does awesome work.....just his turn around time is usually close to two years. Great guy too. Congrats on finally taken a Bull mount worthy.

Nice pile in the back and nice head too. One day I will get one mount worthy.
