What's your go-to weapon for chasing black bears?
As my name hints, I usually carry an Abolt .338, but I sometimes opt for a Super Redhawk in .44 when I'm hunting tight/thick areas. I would love to get into archery some day.

No special for me, just a 30-06. Still kills em the same ammount of dead.
-
I use my 270 for everything.
-
Whatever I have in my hand at the time from the contender to a bow to an 06
-
Usually i use what ever is sharp in tune, or has a scope on it or is sighted it. If I can find matching bullets/Loads that helps too.

Rifle, Handgun and Bow, asked about using a spear, F & G in AK said No! :bdid:

Don't ask next time.

Try Canada.
I used to have video for a swivel tree stand that had two bear kills over bait with spears. One of the "hunters" was Patrick Swayze's nemesis in the movie Road House.

300 win mag
-
.300 WSM Tikka T3 (I like things to stop where I shoot em) or my lil bros .280 Browning A Bolt.....
But perhaps this year it will be my bow... ;)
-
Tough not to ask when three of the guys that I hunted with were either employees of F & G or Alaskan State Troopers...... Not that they were going to have heart burn about it, was just principle of the matter..
-
My little 338-06 Ackley is my bear gun of choice.

Or a switch :chuckle:
-
somedays i will take the 338 win mag out, others, a side by side 12 bore stuffed with one ounce slugs. some times a recurve bow...... was the time i hunted with all sorts of rifles, but now im pretty well sold on the 338
-
I always used my 300 win.mag when I used to hunt bear. I haven't hunted them for a few years now but I would still use it.
-
I have been lucky enough to take 5 with my bow and 2 with an 06. Loved the bow alot better, even though both rifle shot bears were within bow range as well.
-
7mm rem mag for long range and 44 rem mag pistol for up close and personal
-
Overkill I know.... but I really like my 9,3x62mm stoked with 286gr. Nosler Partitions.
-
.270, .44mag, .300mag, .243, pretty much whatever is in my hand at the time
-
I like the Mod. 700 in .270w, 150gr / 30-06 220gr
-
As sayleen said my one and only is a browning abolt 280. its a little small but three bears down and all within a hundred and fifty yards. im hoping to use my bow or my muzzleloader this year.
-
243 for deer 100gr
7mm mag 140gr for all the bigger stuff.
-
7mm Rem Mag 175 grain soft points
-
Not much of a long shot anymore (If I ever was). I like to see the whites of their eyes. 45-70 or 450. Also use '06 but almost all of those kills could have been made w/a levergun. Critter of habit I guess.
-
i like my .270 winchester, but a 375 h&h would do wonders....lol
-
338 RUM 250 grain bullet
-
I use my 300 winny for everything.
-
Either my Marlin 1895 Guide gun in .45/70 or if its during deer season, pre-64 model 70 featherweight in 30-06.
-
I usually hunt with a remmington 700 BDL in 7mm. But I love the Winchester pre 64 .264 that my dad passed on to me.
-
Browning abolt 300wsm
-
Its a bow or a 300 win mag! I have half a dozen more on the shelf collecting dust! Wouldnt mind trying my 3inch 12 gauge slugs on a bear
-
I have a 300wsm but would use any .30 cal or bigger. Not cause bear are hard to kill just leaves a bigger hole. Their hair can soak up alot of blood.
The new 338 federal would be a great one!! Similiar to the 30-06 balistically and in recoil, but a bigger diameter!!!!
