Title: 30-06 velocities
Post by: roosterslayer on April 28, 2008, 07:59:05 PM: Can someone tell me what the velocity is for a 180 grain gamegame from federals factory? I was thinking 2800 fps-2900 fps, but just curious?

Post by: bobcat on April 28, 2008, 08:16:34 PM: I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 2600 than 2700. The numbers they give are usually a little overly optimistic. Not that a 30-06 can't be loaded up to 2700 or even 2800 fps with a 180 grain bullet, but with the 30-06 especially, the factory loads are kept under pressure due to all the older 30-06 rifles out there.
