im looking for the story/pics of that big blacktail some guy got during archery season up around between goldbar-skykomish area. it was a few years back. the guy had patterned the deer for a few years and finally connected with him
anyway anyone have that story? or pics? if you remember the buck im talking about that is.
-
google "the gold bar buck"...you'll find it.
-
thanks jackelope
btw hows that savage working for you? i almost baught another one today in the same condition as the one i sold you. minus this ones stock was WAY worse :chuckle:
-
I thought th egame department killed the gold bar buck for trapping some kids on some playground equip[ment or something......different story....different buck???? I saw that guy while fishing and he was huge.
-
well...i was wrong. i can't find squat. if you go to washington-oregon game and fish mag and search for it, it shows something, but i can't get the link to work.
the savage is working out great. it has a 3.5-10 scope, a tupperware stock that i painted, a harris bi-pod, and shoots great. it will likely see some action this fall. i planned to take it out after some yotes this year but that was not to be.
the youth stock has been refinished and is on a stevens .243 that belongs to the neighbor kid. he'll use it for his first deer hunt this year.

yeah i have google everything i can think of to find that story but have yet to find anyting.
and thats cool that old stock got some use. it was really bad off. the one i was looking at buying is even worse off then mine was.
-
yeah i looked also, all i could find out was otherwebsites of other peole talking about a gold bar buck.........and something about it maybe getting stolen from the taxidermist......
-
I looked for it awhile ago on MM becasuse I was looking for pics of him for a couple of our threads. I couldn't remmber if his one side was a 5 or not. There was a very nice non-typical that was there and thats what I thought had the gold bar name tagged onto him. He was definately not a hoax. I saw him a couple times fishing the Sky for chum. He was a monster but became a little too friendly. I figured the wdfw used it as an excuse to get a nice mount for their office as I am sure they could have trained him to be skiddish.....but.......so be it.

The one that was in the Oregon/Washington fish and game magazine taken with a bow was a mule deer. They had resended the story. The guy supposedly patterened it and shot it with a bow but if you saw the picture you could tell it was a muley.
-
If I remember, it was bulloney...muley horns mounted on a blacktail cape. They gave the guys name in the article...wonder if he was from the area. He said he had seen one even "biggger" than the one he arrowed...yah right.
-
Yep you remember it right. It was found to be a Blacktail cape on a mule deer taken in Chelan County. He got caught with his hand in the cokie jar.
-
Coastalghosts story is the same as what I remember reading in Washington Oregon fish and game. Probably something like 8 years ago. He supposedly shot the smaller of the two bucks.
-
I used to subscribe to W-O G&F and have the issue that the Gold Bar Buck article ran in. It was July 2002. They called it a 7x7 scoring 179 1/8. Happy to share it if somebody wants a copy or scan.
-
I guess I'm not talking abouthe "gold bar" buck then. Does anyone remember the buck I am referring too.
-
Nope, wasn't that one as this buck was a non-typical......but I made a link or thread of its own for that one. Thats just messed up.
-
Bone, I remember the post a couple years back on MM also, you are talking about the buck that was roaming around near the river right, I believe there were a couple pics or it on the hoof also, different buck than the gold bar buck.
-
Yep thats the one. The last set of pictures was it peering into somebodies bedroom window or something and then later that week the WDFW put it down. I saw him a couple times in the fog while fishing the river. Amazing......first time I ever associated grey ghost with a blacktail.
-
There is so many different stories about the gold bar buck. Supposely he shot the the smaller of the two and says that Mr. Big is still out there. The only picture i saw was a mounted one. I tried to search for field pics of the deer and couldnt find any. I have also heard that is was a Idaho Muley with a blacktail cape. :dunno: Here is the pic featured in the magazine.

Last I heard, last year the Gold Bar buck is real and is in fact a blacktail. The poor hunter got so screwed over he gave up on keeping it "public". See thread.
