I leave tomorrow for my turkey hunt. Has anyone had any success in the last week or so. Is the better weather helping? Are the birds talking a little better then the first couple of weeks of the season?. Is the snow melting? I will be north of Spokane.

A buddy of mine got two already around Colfax.

I got one last Monday in Okanagan. He had a 10" beard. I was by myself so the pictures suck. He was strutting pretty hard but they were not overly vocal. I could have shot two but I did not see a ton of turkeys in the area so I let one go. It is still kind of cool on the east side. Good luck to everyone else.

They seem to be talking alot better, yes the snow is melting. I called in two jakes this morning. Had them out at about 25 feet, they looked around and walked off, yelped a couple of times and here they came running back. Too funny! Heard a couple of nice toms off in the distance but they were still henned up when I got to them and all they would do is spit and drum. Sure were pretty in the sunlight!!

got this rio last weekend. called em up in windy cold weather in the SE corner of the state. found him with his bud and two girlfriends. heard no responses but both gobblers came to my calls strutting in nicely. weighed in at 18.5lbs with a 7" beard. woodlands at 3500# was mixed with snowy and clear spots.

Areas along the Palouse River that have trees............also the canyons and areas with trees northwest from Pine City in northern Whitman and into southern Spokane County.....Rio's. Mostly private ownership....

Best map I could find in a hurry......

................notice the Palouse River running from Colfax west going above Endicott on the map and continuing west then southwest. Alot of the areas along the Palouse are timbered and have turkeys. Remember though...not the densities of NE, as there is only limited habitat.
Believe Pine City is in southern Spokane County just above Whitman county line. Northwest from there as if you were heading toward Spague(as a crow flies), you run into canyons and trees(Hole-In-The-Ground area). Rio's there also.....area runs north torward Cheney.

I've been out daily in the Eastern and NE Blues with very little going for luck. I've heard maybe 3 gobbles in 7 days with no drawing of the bow. I've gotten maybe 30 minutes of video of hens and one jake but no toms, yet. I've talked to a bunch of people, and the general concensus is that the toms are henned up pretty tight this week and the wind, rain and snow has kept them wary, also.

I shot 2 really nice Rios in southern oregon last week. I was just playing around on the NWTF website and if I would have officially weighed my turkey I would probably have the #2 Rio for Oregon.
-
Me and my cousin hunted in yakima the last 3 days and havent heard a bird. I saw two when we were riding our quads back to the truck. They flew and didnt see where they landed. they are being very tight lipped cause i know these birds havent been pressured at all. They were still down very low. Its been pretty cold still so i think this cold weather is keeping them in check. suppose to warm up next few days so hopefully next weekend will be better.

Go get em Kirk... Need to come over and see ya sometime before elk season
Jim, were you wearing those pants while turkey hunting ? Please be careful out there if you wear them again. Red is a major NO NO while turkey hunting. Yes they look cool ! where did you get em.. But please not while turkey hunting.
-
NWTF- Who is this?
-
I had no idea turkeys could see colors. :dunno: Good to know.
MuleySniper, that means no more Spidey Suit!!!
-
I dont think hes referring to turkeys seeing colors but some jack a$$ that sees red and pulls the trigger cause he thinks its a toms head.
-
Now that I understand. There are lots of :mor: out there.
-
Yes, not the turkeys.. the dumb arsh who sees red and pulls the trigger.
Kirk, its me Cameron
-
Cameron, whats going on? You still down south.
-
yep nwtf i was wearin those pants. bought those at an military surplus store. they're from some foreign military. never thought about the color, but yeah, good point with the reddish color. i don't own much camo, but do break it out for the turkeys. time to head out again, hopefully a little less snow.
-
Jim, if you wear the same size as me I think I have a few extra pairs of pants hanging around.
No Kirk... Im HOME ! I will hook up with you the next time I am in your area. I am in the Tricities right now.
