I was just curious if anyone knows of websites or local shops (Seattle, Everett) that have used outdoor gear. Hunting, camping, backpacking etc. I'm tired of using Craigslist. Way to many flakes and freaks and the only other place I look is Ebay.
-
The only ones I can think of are in Seattle. One is called Second Ascent in Ballard. It has a lot of backpacking and mountaineering gear. I don't remember any really great savings, but it was better than shiny new at REI. Then there was a used scuba place on Lake Union, don't remember the name. Garage sales have some good finds.

What are you looking for :dunno:

whatcha lookin for?
I'm in the whooo hoo tax return is gonna be big, imaginary shopping and upgrade mode right now.
-
Right now I'm looking for backpacking tents 1-2 person under 5 lbs. Would like under 4 lbs but thats when $ goes up. Also I need to get a good sleeping pad. Other then that I also like to rummage around places to see what I can find.

got a eureka spitfire (<10 nights) and a thermarest ridge (1 night.. foam doesn't work for my back) rest foam pad that'll be on the chopping block as soon as my refund comes in.
and possibly an older rei quarter dome + footprint (<20 nights, still great condition).
-
I will 2nd second ascent! no pun intended. Look at some of the other online hunting forums. Quite a few people buy into the backcountry hunting and then get discouraged and dump their gear for cheap. Look at backcountryoutlet.com, campmore and steepandcheap too.

if you are a member of REI and dont mind getting up early, check out the member only garage sales. you can get stuff really cheap!

I may be interested in the tent. Is it 1 or 2 man tent?

I was just at REI on Wednesday in Lynnwood and they are having their members garage sale on the weekend of Feb. 22 (if I remember right) I may go to that.

Yep, the member only garage sales can have some great deals, so long as you don't mind digging. Prices are generally 50% off or more and most the gear, especially tents was used maybe once. If you get lucky, you might even find some nearly brand new tents for cheap. Also, if you didn't know, the Seattle REI has an ongoing garage sale in the basement area. Go to the back of the bike shop and walk down the stairs.
REI also has a new 2 man tent out that is very simple, basic and is a $149. I believe it is called the Passage. It weighs in right at 5lbs and includes a full coverage rain fly which is a must in Western WA.
