Title: Which Muley to mount? Pic's added! I picked it up today!
Post by: C-Money on January 30, 2011, 07:41:41 PM: I am having a hard time deciding which set of antlers to have shoulder mounted. I picked up my 2010 rack from the taxidermist today so I could get them scored at the Yakima Sportsmen show in a few weeks. When I saw the rack with out the head, there was some shrinkage from what I remember on opening day with the antlers still on the deer. I want a real good looking, classic muley on my wall. I am leaning towards my 2007 3x3 now. I think the Taxi can mount my 07 buck with my 2010 cape? Please vote, I would like your input. Thanks!

I hope so! :chuckle: The one I get this year must be a 150+ to get stuffed! I am working my up in rack size! I am really leaning towards the 3pt. I cut the 3pt so there was quite a bit of skull to work with in case i ever wanted him mounted, so I hope the Taxi can make him work.

I hope I get a bigger one someday! I have a 4x4 on the wal that is a bit smaller than these two, and I sure never get tired of looking at it. I really like mule deer, and hope to mount one bigger yet! My 2010 cape is getting tanned as we speak so one or the other needs to get mounted. I am learning to lay off the trigger and have let some dandys walk, but its a fine line for me between Large racks and back straps!

Post by: teanawayslayer on January 31, 2011, 08:09:20 AM: I don't think I would shoulder mount either of them. No offense. They are both nice bucks. I would do a couple of european mounts that way you can get both done with not a lot of expense.

It aint about size and what we think brother, it's your money and trophies, if you have the cash mount'em. If not choose the one that means the most to you. I had my first tagged buck mounted I got when my dad was with me and I was 16 ( he has passed since I mounted it). It's only a small muley forkie ( I wonder how big it might have grown if not killed, quite wide for a young buck) killed in the Pataha canyon by Pomeroy Wa. I will never forget that day still can see it vivedly.

Well I quietly made my way down and glassed and glassed but never saw him. I figured he busted me early and was gone! So I slowly sneaked in closer, using my bino's, trying to get another sighting. When i made it in to where he was, all the sudden he exploded out of some sage and hopped at a high speed down the canyon. As he was hopping, I held the crosshair on the back of his head just as his hooves hit the ground I fired. I figured if he began to bound up the bullet would hit in the back of the neck. Well the bullet whacked him in the back of the head and he cartwheeled. Wow! What a great feeling! That was a very exciting hunt!

Sounds like a great hunt and stalk that plays well in your memory, unless you have a story that is as equally exciting to you for the 2010 buck, then I would mount the 2007 horns on the 2010 cape.

Post by: steen on August 04, 2011, 05:37:13 PM: I mounted a 4x4 with eye guards, 23 inches wide in 2004 and haven't shot one nicer yet. It was a great hunt and I dragged that deer for 2 hours with my daughter and a 17 yearold into camp before my husband even showed up to camp. When he drove up it was hanging, dressed and ready for him to cape it for me. When I draw a quality deer tag I may shoot a nicer one and I may not, this one was a general season deer. I like the 3X3 but you did the hunt and know which holds the best memory. I prefer to mount a deer with the original cape but this way in a sense you may have both on the wall with only one money wise.
