Spent Sat. thru Monday in the south end of the Wenaha searching for my bear.
Snow still blocked the perimeter road pretty low so didn’t cover much country.
I pretty much limit myself to a couple miles in. I know, it’s limiting, but can’t put on the miles as I used to.
Only saw 3 bear, a sow with 2 100# cubs.
On the way out along the Grand Ronde I spotted something weird swimming frantically upstream. I stopped and saw it was a young deer struggling to get to shore. It would work its way along a rock face but the strong flow at the intended exit point stopped its progress every attempt. I thought it was doomed after about 10 minutes of continual effort. Then it found footing at the edge of the face and crawled out, looked for an escape even tried to jump up about 8 feet higher onto the face and fell back. Then it jumped into the flow again turned downstream and managed to reach shore past the rock face. Pretty neat drama. Probably will approach the shoreline cautiously the next time.
