Have you ever seen white Tail around Yakima? Or how far from Yakima have you seen them? Their is a little herd hanging around. :)
-
i doubt it.
-
I have seen wt 2 does hanging are the water treatment plant by the river. Yes I can tell the difference.
-
Someone else was talking about them as well. Seems like a few people have seen them over there. Heck we even have a few of them over the hill.
-
Years ago, 2002 I believe, I saw a 4x4 way up the Nile. The rack was AWESOME! I had the opportunity at 25 yards, but we were focusing on elks instead, so I let him passed. I never seen him again after that. I told my friend he was a WT but they wouldn't believe me. I do my research enough to tell a difference between a WT buck from the BT/Mulley. I still regret until this day.

i seen a pig down dare a few years back 150 ta 160

I wonder if it would have been legal to shoot a white tail in the Nile unit? I would think not because it doesn't say white tail is open in those units.

I am from the Yakima area and have heard about some living around the river but I haven't personally seen them. I have seen about 15 mulies in that area.

Yes it is. I had to look it up, and for whitetail it's any buck. (Not sure why it's not any DEER. ???
-
Yeah have posted before. There is a small bunch between 16 th and 40th along the Greenway.
I also saw one just east of the Vernita Bridge about a week ago. It was 100% whitetail.

Without looking it up , there are a few (329 Quilomeme) that you could Have a problem if you popped one.
-
I'm guessing it was during archery season because both elk and deer where open :dunno: it doesn't say anything about white tails during archery season

Yes but thats a draw unit for deer anyway, if you get the tag it doesn't say you have to shoot mule deer or whitetail, but I sure as hell wouldn't waste that tag on a WT

We were pheasant hunting south of Yakima around Toppenish and seen one of the bigger whitetail bucks we've seen alive. It was a dandy buck. No question about what it was. Big ol flag flying high as he bounded off. This was 3 years ago. Only deer we seen the whole time we hunted there.
-
There are quite a bit of WT on the yakima, i just recently saw 5 of them on saturday between the gap and Toppenish, and one of them was a very big buck. Then today driving home saw 6 off I-82 between wapato exit and the gap with 2 very large bucks in that group. I have always seen deer constantly on the river in that area.
-
Have seen several wt doe in the Ellensburg / Yakima canyon for years. Never seen any antler yet but I am sure they are there.
-
I've seen lots of deer in along the yakima down by zillah/toppenish but they were all mule deer, 3 were very nice bucks, one was probaly 170+.
-
Does anybody have some pics of these river white tails.
-
No can do on the pics, they're really something i only see driving by on the freeway or roadway somewhere
-
Ive seen a couple around k-mart area.
-
There's been a coupla small WT bucks shot on YTC, in the past. Make of that what you will.....
-
I have a couple of pics - see if I can find them.
I have several pics of dead ones from when I was younger, but they are not digital.
I suspect the freeway sightings are not whiteies but are the mulie/blacktail hybrids that are what is along all of the river cooriders.. At a glance a three pointer could look like a whitetail at 70 mph as these deer do have thinner horns and would fork a little like a whitetail. I have literally seen hundreds of these river and freeway deer and have never seen a true mulie.
-
Hunted around yakima my whole life. Never seen any whitetails.........not saying there isn't any but i have never seen them....
-
I have seen them by the mall exit on I-82 in that field.
-
Those deer are mulies. i see them all the time driving back and forth from zillah. i see alot of deer between yakima and zillah and have yet to see a white tail.
I have seen them by the mall exit on I-82 in that field.
-
sounds like we need some Pics????????
Seen a few around pasco, but none farther west........
-
The does I saw were no way mule deer!
-
I have shot plenty of whitetails over the years so I am pretty certain I know what they look like so here is my two cents......
Saw 3 whitetail does at the bottom of the Manastash grade a few years back standing along the first lake on the right and.....was goose hunting out by Mattawa about 10 years ago and watched a NICE whitetail buck walk out into the field we were hunting and feed for about 20 minutes right out in front of us at less than a hundred yards. Was blown away to see a whitetail buck out there,it was cool as hell....and for #3,have seen whitetail does multiple times in the Yakima Canyon on the Ellensburg end during the winter, right there hanging out in the brush along the river.
-
There have been two sighting of WT on the Training Center one doe and one buck this year. We even have a couple old sheds in the office to prove they have been here.
-
We end up with this thread every year, some times more then once a year.
Someone even post pic before.
-
The deer I have seen along the Yak river from Union Gap to my exit have all been small bodied mulies. I have not seen any WT along the river yet it is hard to tell at 70 mph unless I can see the radar ears. Since the flood waters have gone down I have only seen a couple deer and not the dozen or more a night I would see on my drive.
-
So I saw an opossum tonight right at dark at about 10 feet on the Greenway at 40th. Thought it was a rat, but it was a possum. Tried to get a pic, but it went into the brush before I could get it.
So if we have possums here then that proves we have whitetails here.
A nd the bunch that are by the valley mall are the mulie/blacktail that are river deer. They always come there this time of year to feed on the cheatgrass.
-
I ALSO don't have a picture of them, but I saw a WT doe with twin fawns this summer right above the railroad bridge on the E-burg end of the Canyon. No doubt in my mind as she had small ears and a tan colored tail about 15" long that waved side to side in the air when she took off.
-
So who really cares. Just finished soem great wt steaks. they all eat the same once you put sweet baby rays on the numy meat.
-
Ok so someone asked for Pics. Here is a Great Yak River buck. Not a mulie or blacktail, but a great representative of the hybrids that are along the Yakima River. Note the thinner horns and the "whitetail forking" - but NOT a whitetail.
You need more than horn forking to call it a whitetail - especially at 70 mph. Also the river deer have different coloring than whiteies. Spend enough time and you will learn the difference
But that being said this is not proof that there are not white tails on the Yak cuz I know they are there and wish they would just get to breeding faster so that I can whack one before I get too old to pack him out.
Have other pics that I can post of these bucks - still looking for them.
-
:dunno: :dunno: looks like many mulies I have seen :dunno: :dunno:
-
I was thinking the same.
I shot a Hybrid MULEYXBlacktail a few years back. the only true way I could tell the diffrence was in the head......It just didn't fit the deer....
-
Here is his twin
-
I found another, I see a pattern here
-
nope mine was alot bigger :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Prove it
-
Having three points does not make a mule deer a whitetail. :dunno:
-
no pics,
This was 5 , 6 years aog over in the Wenas. me and a friend hunting this canyon and I see this deer get up and run. Head full of horns but a liitle tiny head and a very small body.......
might have some photos around somewhere , but not digital.......
-
Having three points does not make a mule deer a whitetail. :dunno:
:o say it aint so ;)

Would you rather I say what I really want to say- that there are no whitetail deer in the Yakima area? NONE! :chuckle:
-
A few people that I have talk to say that they have seen them around in the Naneum years ago.
-
Swore I saw a decent two point whitetail opening day of deer season about 3 years ago..... He was totally a different color and was flagging his tail and trying to tend the 4 does he was with that were very obviously bt/mulie mix..... I had him dead to rights @ 70 yards for a few minutes.... Just couldn't believe my eyes and wasn't sure if it was even legal until I read the regs that night at camp.... :bash: This was in the Cowichie unit off Darling....
