Title: Archery Question
Post by: StanwoodSpartan on February 21, 2011, 09:46:20 PM
Quick question. I am going through the game regs, and reading up on archery seasons. This is most likely the first year that I will be hunting with a bow. My question is: If I choose archery when I pick up my tags say for the four pack combo, can I only hunt the elk, deer, cougar, and bear with a bow only, or can I say hunt the bear with a rifle and a cougar with a rifle but the other two with a bow? Thanks ahead of time for your responses and sorry if I am sounding ignorant.

You only have to make a weapons choice for deer and elk. Also you will have to choose east side or west side for elk.. hope this helps.

Even with buying the combo you can pick what weapon to hunt deer/elk.  If you were so inclined you could choose to hunt deer with a rifle and elk with a bow or one or the other with a muzzleloader, etc.  A legal caliber rifle, bow or muzzleloader can be used to hunt bear and cougar.  No restrictions there EXCEPT that some of the big game seasons require you to hunt those animals with a weapon open for the current big game season (not rifle but muzzleloader and archery).  For instance, some of them require you to use a bow during bow season but you can go back to a rifle after the season is over.  I suppose to stop poachers from ruining it for everyone.

So when they ask archery, muzzle, or modern I could say bow for elk, and modern for deer?

Yes.  Elk and deer are separate.

yep you can hunt diffrent season for diffrent animals. I hunt muzzle deer and archery elk. There is a multi season tag you can apply for and draw. If you get it, and buy the 180.00 tag you can hunt all three season rifle/muzzle/archery but still can only take 1 animal.
