Title: Lots of newbie questions...
Post by: CoachNemo on February 22, 2011, 07:55:42 PM
So here it goes...

I have been on the site for a few months now and my background is in upland hunting in Nebraska.

I have never hunted big game and have decided to try bowhunting.  I have done a lot of bow research and have taken 2 archery classes at Next Step Archery @ Nock Point in Lynnwood. This has been invaluable thanks to Bob, Rob and Michael!

I am signed up for Hunter's ed in March and the Bowhunting class in May.

My first question is where to start my scouting and what GMU might be best for a new guy looking at Elk and Deer.  I am planning on the early archery season and I am not looking for honey holes, but just some general suggestions on where to start my scouting.  I would like to hike in as far as I can and spend a a week or so in the field.  I am somewhat familiar with the area around Yale lake near Cougar.  This is GMUs 572 and 560.

Starting from scratch, what do you take in the field? Base camp?

PM me if you would like.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Coach Nemo

Spencer Meadow off road 93.  It'll be a while before you can get up there though.
