Post by: RightPlace-RightTime on February 26, 2011, 08:31:15 AM: It was on the swing, I just love the takes when swinging the fly. It was a different take with the cold water. I had the wait through the 10 seconds of what I thought was a trout nibbling before setting the hook. Then finally after the nibbling came the heavy wait of the take. The set was on. It was a fun fish. Thanks guys for the replys.

Post by: Wanttohuntmore on February 27, 2011, 07:47:47 AM: Swinging a big fly or something sparse? Bright or dark? I've been flyfishing for steelies about 10 yrs now. I have yet to figure out a preference depending on the conditions. Each river seems to have different tastes.

I am trying to figure out the nymphing game now though, figure it's easier to fish while floating in the DB.

My yougest girl and I hit the Skookumchuck the past two days (all day long). Yesterday it wasn't as cold but the wind rain/snow sucked.

I tie my own flies. I have one that works in high,low,clear,dirty waters. Its a blue and purple with a unique body. But it swims real well, that to is what to look for in a fly. I tie it somewhat sparse to make sure it sinks and fishes well.

But typically, like pink for dirty water. dark smaller flies for clear water. I also always use a stinger hook fly.
