I am new to WA state and am hoping to score a spring black bear tag- is it legal to hunt over bait for big game in WA? :archery_smiley:

Not for bear. There are a lot of people who do it for deer and elk though, and that is legal.

I know the ? was at bears.. but I just wanted to add that wild turkeys can't be baited..not sure if you can bowhunt waterfowl but that is illegal too.

Keep in mind, scents are considered baits too. Also, if you are baiting for deer and elk, and a bear comes in, you cant shoot it.
Good luck!

waterfowl is illegal to bait also, that's a federal violation

Dang I always wanted to bring some torn up bread strips for bird hunting :P :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

If you want to hunt bears over bait, head for the Idaho panhandle. I hunted unit 4 a few years back. It was an awesome experience. It is a lot of hard work collecting and placing baits, and can be very time consuming. I did take my best bear ever though. Idaho tag prices are reasonable for black bears too.
