Title: Growling
Post by: hoyt5199 on March 01, 2011, 12:43:33 PM
So I messed up last night :( I called a yote in last night using a female challenge bark. I was getting impatient and left my spot to see if I could locate him because he had stopped barking and I couldn't see because it was very thick. I moved about 20 ft and low and behold he popped out in the only little clearing I could shoot in. He came in about 20yds from me, looked at me and before I could get a shot he walked off. As he walked off i said a few words, of course. As he left, he was really growling just like a dog. Have you guys ever heard this before, because I never have not.

:chuckle:  You'd be growling too if you were pursuing what you thought was a female and it ended up being a dude...  :yike:   :chuckle:

I called one in about 10 yrs ago, and was about to shoot it, but decided to hold off and see how close it would get.  It came up, sniffed my boot from about 5 feet, then jumped back to about 15 feet, and started growling like a pissed off dog.  I was so shocked, I started cussing at it, completely forgot that I had a mini 14 on my lap.  After I kind of stood up, cussing, it took off.  I ended up throwing 7 shots at it, missing each shot.  I gave up, watched it run over 500 yds and it was gone.  One of the most exciting calling experiences I've had.  I can still remember it bearing it's teeth, and it's eyes....   :o

Yep I've had two growl at me during bow season.  One I jumped out of his bed and it actually stiff legged walked towards me growling.  I put a arrow right in his front shoulder.  Second was the next year, same area as a matter of fact, and I spotted him mousing in a field.  I called it in to about ten yards and when it turned downwind  it hit my scent cone and started growling and woffn; arrow in his spine then one thru the lungs finished it off.
