This is why you shouldn't use WD-40 on guns. I know guys that do

It's good for keeping the exterior rust free just keep it out of the innards.

I used to work at a trap club 20+ years ago.  Lots of problems with too much WD-40 from malfunctions  to deterioration of soldered joints.
