Title: .17 hmr
Post by: huntandjeep on March 11, 2011, 07:51:59 PM
So im looking for a .17 hmr and ive narrowed it down to a Savage 93r17bvss. And a Marlin xt-17 vsfl i now the .17 is extremely accurate. I'll just be using it for a plinker and sage rat gun. Does any boby have either of these and what are your thoughts. Thanks

I have a CZ 452 in 17 HMR its extremly accurate on calm days and a ton of fun to shoot, the 17HMR blows the pesky neighborhood crows in half.  :chuckle:
I can't help you between the savage and the marlin. The CZ is over double the price now from when I bought mine (when the 17HMR first came out). I think the CZ's are too spendy now IMO, plus mine has a crappy trigger.  Optics wise I like the 4-12AO bushnell i have on mine.

I have the savage and love the gun!!!!! i have the bull barrel. It has the feel of a hunting rifle so i think it helps with my shooting.  it can hold 1in groups at 100 yards if i can!  :chuckle:  the  clip is kinda sloppy but that would be my only complaint.

I have the savage non bull barrel in shadow grass and love that gun. Will shoot groups 1inch and under at 100 yards, have to agree with willipa that the clip is not the best but the rest of the gun is good and works extremely well

I've got a Savage 93R17. Very accurate and blows up the sage rats. Coyotes not so good. Kind of pricey to shoot but who cares when you're having fun.

I just picked up a Savage Model: 93R17 BTV with Bushnell Elite 3200 scope and 50 rounds of CCI ammo for $150.   :IBCOOL:   Looking forward to getting it out and playing a bit.

The .17hmr is pure fun to shoot.  I think the Savages are the best buy for the money.  I have a Savage that I've used for 3 years on Rockchucks and Sage Rats, and it's super accurate.  I recently picked up a CZ with a BSA Sweet 17 scope and an extra mag for $300, and just took it out to shoot it last Sunday.  In all honesty, I like the cheapie Savage better.  The one complaint I have is they only make 5 round mags for the .17's.  If they can make 10 round mags for the 22 LR, I don't see why they can't make 10 rounders for the .17hmr.  My advice is to get the Savage and spend the extra bucks on a good scope.
