I fished with him last year for salmon. I went with 7 of my friends. There was 20 people on the boat and me and one of my buddy's were the only people on the boat that didn't catch anything. It was a fun trip though. Chuck was a good captain. I might be heading back out with him again this year. BUT IF YOU GO ON HIS BOAT BRING YOUR OWN ROD!! His rods were all old. That is the only complaint I had on the trip. I will always take my own rod from now on. Make sure if you take your own rod you dont use braided line. They wont let you use it.

Watch out for those charters, most won't let you keep all your fish if you limit out and others don't. >:( They don't like you to put your fish on ice in your own cooler either. The last time I did a bottomfish charter, me and three others caught over ninety fish and did not go home with our limits since half of the other 10 people on the boat were sick the whole trip and the others couldn't catch a fish to save their lives. Bunch of BS!
Good luck with whatever you do. And, don't take the word of the person booking you on whether you can bring a cooler or not.

For bottomfish the best boat is the slammer with Rett Webber. The ultimate is Phil westick and the freedom got stole in seattle last month and I heard it has;nt been found yet. It;s open now but no boats have got out it;s been terrible wa\eather down here.

If your going salmon or Halibut I would suggest negotiating a hour or so stop to fill up on some bottomfish as well to help stock the freezer. You will have to make your intentions very clear but it is a great way to go. Easier to do once you have established a relationship with a captain but doable none the less.

The Hula Girl of Westport Charters, The Ranger, The Ultimate, The Gold Rush...I have fished with them and I like these the best. If you have a favorite rod and reel with 25-30 lb mono that is good for mooching, bring it.
Have fun!

That is some very good advice there that should be considered for a successful trip.

I have fished with the Gold Rush a couple of times and wound up with my picture on the front page of the Olympia newspaper because of the size of my salmon that I caught. I think that the captain really knows what he is doing.

The Tequila Two with Deep Sea Charters is a good one. We went out with them last year and everyone on the boat got their limits of rockfish and lingcod and there was 22 people on the boat. He did a good job. We are going out with them again this next weekend.

I went quite a few years ago caught lots of fish a 20 pound silver and a 36 pound king those were my biggest fish and it was a blast :)

Playboy Too out of Westport Charters has done pretty well for me on early season fish over the years. Don't remember the skipper's name, but he was willing to re-anchor as much as necessary to keep us on fresh fish. You may not be able to tell by the pic below, but it was a little lumpy out there that day, and we were dragging anchor quite a bit.
Heard there weren't any more ling cod out there, though. :chuckle:
