Title: traditional crosshairs or BDC reticle
Post by: D-Rock425 on March 15, 2011, 08:47:35 AM: I'm looking for a new scope for my 7mm rem mag. I'm just wondering about shooting some sort of reticle instead of the traditional crosshairs. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Post by: GoldTip on March 15, 2011, 09:00:08 AM: I've got a Leupold VXIII with the Boone and crocket reticle and I've got a Nikon Monarch with the BDC reticle. Bothe seem easy to use and work pretty well. You do need to shoot them to determine where they actually "hit" at each range versus what the book or website says. After determining that, I think they work great.

There are some that I really don't like but that my friends love to use, so I think it really tends to be a personal preference sort of thing.

There are some *censored* scopes out there, that put in the right hands of a marksman can be deadly at long ranges.

I say shoot your gun, find the bullet it likes. and shoot it at ranges you feel comfortable with and you will always know where it will hit......

My cousin has one for his 06 and he can hit a pop can at 300 yards off hand with it. :yike: That said i have a standard reticle on my 06, got it before they came out with the BDC.. I think they are great for quick shooting situations. make it easier to judge distance quick. I know one of the things I've done is to make a plywood cutout of coyotes to help me learn how far they are away by just using the cross hairs... I also have the bullet drop taped to my stock... I don't know how the 7mm works out for the BDC but dropp is determined by bullet weight and velocity... if they match up with the suggestions form nikon they may work. :twocents:

Post by: Skyvalhunter on March 15, 2011, 12:17:59 PM: I just got back my 3x9 50mm Leupold from having the reticles changed to LR duplex. You don't want the fine duplex as in low light conditions it is hard to locate, You want to be able to pull the gun up and wham your eye locates the reticle. :twocents:

Post by: high country on March 17, 2011, 11:52:11 AM: I like duplex or mildot. At one time I had a bunch of scope reticles and it was confusing keeping up with the subtensions. Mildot is mildot.....just be sure the power is right. For one gun guys.....clutter that view up! You can still make corrections with a duplex too.
