Everyone has their favorite elk hunting caliber, but what is yours? :mgun:
-
100 grain Montec G5s (sorry, can't stomach the crowds for the firearm season...)
-
.308
-
.270...Yeah! I'm first to say it.
-
I've killed quite a few elk with my 30-06 and 300 win mag, but recently have been pretty danged pleased with the 325wsm and 200gr accubonds.
-
55/75 Goldtip arrow with a wac'em broadhead.
-
125 grain Snuffer is first choice. .338-06 is second.
-
444 Marlin® w/a 290gr LFNGC Beartooth® bullet (boolit).
-
.300 win mag
-
g5 montec is my first choice but after that, .270 150 grain
-
.300 win mag
:yeah:
-
I think the .458 Lott would be ideal for me....just need to get one. Until then I'll keep using a .338-378 Mag.
-
.338 Win Mag
-
wsm 270 150 gr.. Its the " One size fits all" round....
-
300 win mag, the real one!! :chuckle:
Carl
-
I prefer the 50 cailiber Sabots myself, But this year I think it's gunna be the 300 win mag.
-
.338 win mag
-
300 short mag
-
30-06 killed my only elk. It was very punishing to the rib cage! I have used my 270win the last two years with out firing at one.
-

Those are darn expensive factory loads!
-
.50 cal muzzy, .300 win., and have been trying with the bow but thus far haven't flung any arrows.
-
That's why I reload. 8) A box of 20 reloads is less than a box of 20 'premium' factory loads for my '06.
-
If i am rifle hunting the 7mm mag has been my choice lately
But i prefer the 125grain broadheads..
-
300 WSM Big Game. .243 Small Game. 44 mag for ppl problems.
-
308 norma mag for elk and 243 for every thing else
-
.338 winmag with 225 gr accubonds. My second choice woul be a 450gr ics hunter with a crimeson talon broad head.
-
I started with .32 winchester special for the first few...30-06 after that.
Have a 300WM and a .338WM waiting in the wings...

-
300wm 180g Partiton
I bow hunt for elk unless, I draw a multi season tag  Might have to switch to the new 340wby and 200g accubonds for some long range hunting :IBCOOL:
-
338 win mag
-
270 win
-
Washington elk hunting I use a 300 Wthrby Mag/180 gr Nosler Partition and in New Mexico a 340 Wthrby Mag/210gr Nosler Partition.
The New Mexico hunting often offers much longer shots consistantly out to 300-500 yards. While the 300 is plenty of gun for either we needed an excuse to get another gun.
Here's last years NM 6X5
-
.338 Win Mag. - 225 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets - All one shot kills with these bullets !
-
That's definately a thumper load, Thumper! :chuckle: You using the newer "tipped" Bear Claws? If so, I'd be curious as to your likings of them comarpared to the old Bear Claws with the "blunt" lead tip. I loved the closer randed capabilities of that bullet, but struggled everytime shooting them long range.
-

I'm surprised I haven't seen any .375 H&H magnums! Little meat damage (less then a .270) and not much more recoil then a .338 win mag...
-
30-06 .308 .243 stick and a string
-

Thats cause a .338win is almost the same ballistics as a 375 H&H and is cheaper to shoot :P

I got out of re-loading a long time ago but looking to get back into it - They have the plastic tip bullets for reloading I think but there not in factory loads. I sand paper the tips (there not to good looking alot of the times) and use scotch bright on the whole bullet to clean them up .
