What caliber do you use for hunting bears? Everyone has their favorite, but what's yours? :bfg:
-
Was my .270, but I just bought a new 7mm that's itchin' to get bloody... For bear? ...whatever I happen to be carrying... :dunno:
-
7mm for me no contest...
-
7mm08 for me I've killed four of them with it the last few years.
-
300wsm
-
125 grain broadhead.
2nd choice 30-06.
-
Big.
I am wanting to use the smokepole on Smokey this year.... .54 cal.
-
Only have one rifle...so its gonna be 7mmmmm oh 8 ;)
-
.338 Win Mag ;)
-
Mine is the 300 RUM or 270 WSM
-
Whatever legal weapon I have in my hand!
Or, my .300 WSM.
-
300 mag or T/C Encore 450 Marlin pistol
-
Have to admit I love killing black bears with my bow. Have killed 3 bears with a bow and another 5-6 with rifles over the last 30 years of hunting and no other 4 legged animal dies quite as easily with a good bow shot as a bear does. So my favorite would probably be a 7595 Goldtip arrow with whatever 125gr broadhead that has been on the end in the past. Right now it would be the COC Sonic.
-
The lightest one that I own - A Ruger 10/22!
Why? Because since I don't ever see them anyway, why should I carry the extra weight?
Just in case though, I carry a 7MM Remington Mag for back up.
-
30-30
:yeah:
Up close and personal!!
-
338 win or 44mag. My dad uses his 44mag but after he saw my bears reaction to a 225gr bullet to the lungs/heart he wants me there to back him up. I put my first shoot in the heart and the bear turned and ran straight at me tell I hit him in the middle of the chest at 30yds.
-
I'm hoping to put my Marlin levergun to use this year so .308 it is.
-
300 mag or T/C Encore 450 Marlin pistol
 **** ya dude!
300win mag for me as well
Bare fists if I could
-
Bill Sweetland 550gr w/160 gr Grizzly from my 70# Damon Howatt !!
-
300 Win Mag. It is the only rifle I own and hopefully I won't need another one for a long time. I prefer to shoot the same rifle and know it well.
-
325wsm or 50cal muzzy
-
.270 win
-
300 WSM with 180gr Nosler Accubonds here.
-
125 grain Woodsmen broadhead on a 550 gr arrow from my 52# Sapphire Hawk
-
300WSM with 180 Barnes TSX
-
1895 Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70.
-
Honestly it's not very much fun to kill one with a rifle anymore. I've killed three with a rifle and 5 with my bow. A heck of alot more fun with the bow.

Distance 13 miles :chuckle: :chuckle:
HE/VT/ etc.....
-
I might try my 7mm rem mag.
-
My favorite caliber rifle for bear will be the the one that I use to kill my first one :chuckle:. So far I haven't had much opportunity to kill one. Hopefully I draw for Monroe and tag one. I am working on loading some Barnes TTSX 168 gr match for my 300 WSM.

Good choice! I have 30+ that I cooked up a few weeks ago that I'm dying to put on target, should get the job done quite well
-
50 cal ML for my only bear, now its a 454
-
My first and only was with the Marlin .45/70 lever gun over bait the last year we could (1996) at 25 yards. Very exciting and only needed one shot to the chest, now any opportunity will be with my Model 70 in .30/06 as sadly, the Marlin is long gone.
-
300 WSM 8)
-
.338 Win mag
-
The one that I shot this one with. .300 WINMAG at 400 YDS.
-
7mm mag with 160 gr nosler partitions......furthest i had one go after the shot was last spring-he made it 30 yards with his heart shot out (first pic)....after the shot he was bouncing straight up in the air like a frog jumping trying to make the timberline...tried to put another one into him but the only time I could see him was at the top of his jump through the reprod...second pic I shot last fall quartering toward me-bullet went into his left side at the crease of the neck/shoulder and came out his opposite lung...never moved after i touched the trigger. I have a BLR in .358 been sittin in my safe for 13 years that I'd like to work some hand loads for and see how that does this fall.

Did you have the skull measured on that hog?

What ever I happen to be carrying when a bear steps out in front of me when it is legal to shoot....
Sling shot if that is all I have.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

not yet....I'm still working with the Taxi trying to get it back....cool thing with him was his front right leg was missing at the knee...had been for some years and it had caloused over and he was getting aroung pretty good without it. am gettin a 1/2 body mount done so looking forward to it...yes he had a real big nugget....laid my hand on top of his head and there were still inches on either side to his ears. don't know how big he will measure but i've since seen some real nice bears and his skull looks bigger than theirs. His was by far the biggest skull I've shot. He wasn't a monster bear body size (prob around 300 lbs) but he had a huge layer of fat on him and sure tates good.

OOOPPS...my bad!!
-
Nice kitty kat.
-
It's like going golfing, depends on the shot??? I like my Marlin 45/70 guide gun with 430gr hardcast buffalo boars (soon to have Leupold 1-4x20 scout), or my Remington 700 in 338 RUM Leupold 4-12x40 with 250 Barnes X bullets, or my Browning A-Bolt 7mm with my Leupold 6.5-20x50varXIII with 162gr. boattails.
-
300 rum, 180 gr bullet. I am practicing to shoot the bear between the eyes. If that position is not offered then in one ear and out the other.
Otherwise remove a lung or heart. We will see when the opportunity presents itself.
My sister still wants a bear rug.
-
So far it been my 300wm with 180g partition. But I have now picked up a 338wm and a 340wby mag. Both of the new guns will be used for bear. The 338wm when I am calling and the 340wby. When we are just looking to spot and stalk and do some long range shooting.
-
I like any 300 mag pretty well.... :twocents:
-
Killed most of my bears with my 300 win mag. but the most fun I had shooting one was with my 444 marlin lever action when baiting was leagal. If I had to choose one gun it would be my 300 win mag.
-
I will take any legal weapon....just drop me off.
-
7mm rem mag
-
So far I've tagged one bear! So I guess that makes the single shot .375 H&H my favorite. It worked pretty well...

One 260 gr Nosler Accubond at a tad over 300 yards. Did I "need" a .375? Of course not, but bear sure seemed like a great excuse to use it!
