Here's a pic of a nice shed through my spotting scope on property I can't go on :bash: Oh well, I guess you can't get em all! :'(
-
Can't you get permission? Ouch!

Nope, I stopped and asked- actually I wanted to bring my 6 year old son up to get it, but the guy said NO! He wasn't the nicest guy about it either, and then wanted to know where it is :chuckle:
-
You should have just snuck over there and got it. :twocents:

Yeah, bad idea. If you ask and get a "no" I would not be doing any sneaking. Probably end up with a load of birdshot in your butt.
-
He should have done the sneaking first. Get in and get out.

Not something to kid about... which I seriously hope you are.

The reason I asked permission and didn't sneak in is (not only that it's illegal and wrong), but I think way too many shed hunters do it and ruin it for everyone. When I started looking for sheds in the early 1990's, I was given permission pretty much anywhere I asked. Now I get denied all the time because they are overrun with trespassers as it is. It's almost to the point where it's not fun anymore- ok it's still a blast, but it's not like it used to be!! Besides, I think an antler I legally pick up after hard work is 1000 times cooler than one someone had to sneak in and get. :twocents:

nice reply fetch. I totally agree. Same thing in hunting animals as well. there are a few bad apples out there messing it up for everyone else.

It will never cease to amaze me what people will post on the internet.

He has to be joking. If not he is gonna get flamed and this is going to become a back and forth you know what match.

Thanks- it's good to see I'm not alone. In all honesty, if the guy wouldn't have been a jerk about it, I would have told him right where it was! Actually, I would have gone and got it and gave it to him, just for the thrill of picking it up and I could have took some better pics of it. It was last years antler anyway, if he didn't find it then he won't find it this year most likely. The rodents will be happy. :bash:

Been there done that :chuckle: I found a nice 4x4 on private land a couple years ago and called to see if my wife could shoot it :dunno: They said NO! where is it?..... By the sage brush on the hill! :chuckle:

That happened to me recently too. An antler just is not worth breaking the laws over. Good for you for making the right decision.

Again, not even something to kid about. I only hope he is, given the alternative. Treble or not, this is the internet - public forum for ALL to see, including those bunny huggers that everyone so often complain about. Folks who are looking for it will take stuff exactly like this completely out of context.
-
You definitely did the right thing, a great example for your children.

Wow!! No wonder there are some land owners that don't let people on there property. I don't understand why you would say this on the net. Might want to think before you post something like this again. :bash: :bash: :beatdeadhorse:

Kudos to you for asking but I wouldn't have told him where it was either.. :chuckle:

I would have asked if I could get it for him, might have got some brownie points...I gave a rancher a days work for access to hunt his ranch...heck I made a couple hundred dollars in fur that year just on his place

I thought about it, but he had a chip on his shoulder, so I really don't want to go on his property at all now. Like I said earlier in the thread, if he was a nice guy, I would have loved to go and get it for him just to have the thrill of picking up a nice antler! Plus, there's an 8-point elk antler (370 or so) that was shed last Thursday in the same area I might have found for him too. I have total respect for someone not allowing me to go on their property, but it was the way he handled it.
-
Yea he could have been a little courteous!! Atleast you asked, maybe just a grumpy ol rancher. :dunno:
-
Wow..I like how some of you guys take 10 words and act like it's the worst 10 words on the net..amazing!! Everyone can show alittle humor every now and then

Is everyone on here that serious. I was kidding. WOW.

Thats one thing about the forums is you could be joking or mean one thing and its taken another way. Then the next thing you know their riding your rear until someone else comes along and he gets the meat.. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Way to set a good example for your kids even if it was not an ideal ending. Its as I always say when talking about asking for access permission... "the worst they can do is say "no"... harshly!" :)
