Title: my dog chased a coyote out off of property at 2 am,
Post by: NW-GSP on March 21, 2011, 04:48:16 PM
I woke up to my 2 year old gsp and my girlfriends lab going crazy barking and growling at 2am, we were staying at her dads place out in oso and he has some property and so the dogs have access in and out of the place with a doggy door on the back door of the house so when they started going crazy I knew I should see what they were barking at, by the time I made it to the front door the dogs were already launching themselves out of the back door and as soon as I opened the door I saw my gsp chasing the coyote out of the yard and across the street ( private gravel road so very few cars go by)
I was not worried till I saw my dog actually gaining on the coyote :o I know my dog is a very fast runner but had no Idea he was fast enough to catch up to a coyote.
the main reason it worried me is that coyotes will do that exact thing to try to lead a dog into a ambush and attack them with the rest of the pack and even if it was one on one my gsp is far from a fighting kind of dog,
so none the less the doggy door will me locked at night till I can hopefully take down some of those coyotes I think since its close quarters the 3 1/2 in magnum buckshot should do the trick :dunno:

Our Chocolate lab and the red heeler ran down a yote and killed it a few months back. I was surprised because the red heeler is the biggest pansy a#@ dog we've ever had.

Few years back a coyote decide he wanted to dig under the fence and get in the yard with our two boxers. Pretty bad butt kicking he took. Couldn't get out of the yard fast enough. Boxers sure thought they were king shat for awhile.

Certainly not intentional. Let him out at night to do his buisness 10 minutes later i hear all kinds of ruckus grabbed the 45 headed to the noise pretty much to late by the time i got there played hell trying to call him of and I was NOT going to reach my hand between them
did end up getting ahold of his collar a bit late for the coon though

That's illegal :)

Everything's illegal.  Any coon trespassing on my property is a dead coon.  ;)

I just havent seen the wild within come unleashed with this dog yet!?  :) but any of the neighbor dogs up there would have no problem with yotes the neighbors to the left have a pitbull and a big mastiff and the neighbor on the other side has also has a big mastiff and his second dog is a sheperd masiff mix,
I am almost thinking the problem might take care of itself with those kind of dogs around  :chuckle:

Im kinda glad to hear that some of the dogs you would not expect to have it in them to come unglued did it when needed.
