Anyone interested in spending some time with one of our Veterans while enjoying a good day fishing or few days hunting?? Our SCI Chapter hooked up with an organization that takes our Vets on fishing trips or hunting trips after they have served overseas in combat!! Seems to me it could be a win-win for all involved. Just think of the stories you will hear while sitting on the back of a boat or in the woods! If anyone is interested, I will set you up with one of the founders of the Organization. You can check them out at http://www.freedomhunters.org (http://www.freedomhunters.org) This is a great idea and we are working with them as a sponsor as well as trying to setup some trips for thier Vets.

Not sure what I could provide but I would be happy to take one out duck hunting or try and help them find a deer or elk. That would be alot of fun!
-
I have made three vets my "all time" huntin buddies. However if there is one down my way and wouldn't mind hunting with a bunch of "good ole boys" I'm in.
-
Awesome, thats great guys. The more we can get on this the better. Anthony tells me he has guys here in Washington that are looking for trips but he doesnt have but a couple people out this way that can help. So, the more the better. Keep them coming!
PM's sent to you both. Thanks again.

Thanks Camp David! I sent out an email to Anthony Pace over at Freedom Hunters. I am sure he will be very happy for your assistance and I am sure he will be contacting you.
For those of you who have volunteered, please post your experience after the event. This will help others feel more comfortable volunteering as well!

BallisticsNut:
Count me in. Typically I do a spring turkey hunt for youth and if time and weather permit for a disabled Vet. Next year will be no different. Sometimes I have difficulty finding vets that can hike up hills and chase birds so I have established landowner relationships with several great people that have even offered to cut in access roads that will accommodate wheelchairs that way I can cater to every possible situation. I have a list of a few vets that I will forward to HEADSHOT because the fall season can be quite hectic around my shop. I think he's taking a vet out to Republic this year for a deer hunt.
HEASDSHOT...... Check your other post out and let me know if you want that list.
GREAT JOB GUYS.........

Cool organization.
I live in Bremerton, WA... If you have any guys in the area interested in some hunting, I definately wouldn't mind giving back BallisticsNut.
-
Sorry for the late response, been out of town alot these past few weeks.
Kudumana and BiggLuke, send me your contact info via PM and I will get the ball rolling. At least get you on the list as a potential Sponsor.

i am a vet and would enjoy taking another vet out hunting or fishing. My larger boat and jeep are in Alaska with my son (teacherman) but i do have a 17 ft coleman canoe. as far as hunts, i will be going to Chopaka lake in Oct. for a special doe permit. Might have a couple more with me but room for more. Chopaka is in the sinlehekin unit 215. I would like to go elk hunting in the natches or bumping area's and no partners yet. The elk hunt would be colder and warm gear is needed to be along. With that said expect 75 degree days and hot nights. Really thou Nov. in the mountains anything can happen. I usually camp at crow creek campground and hunt up towards sand springs and ravens roost. Totally awsome area and a camera is really recommended. I am not a guide but have hunted since i was 6 yrs old and grew up in montana. My son is Teacherman and many of you know him and have seen his trophies. He is now residing in Alaska. Poor kid having to hunt moose, caribou, and bear. I just got back from there and we went fishing for kings and sockeye. We really Knocked them dead with daily limits everytime we went. Did some pike fishing too. Anyway there you have it. I am 60 yo and doing well this year. I have a disable hunting permit and all that entails.
sincerly

I would be interested. I am always looking to make new friends and as a vet myself I understand how hard it can be to find a good place to hunt, fish, or camp.

hi again Balistics nut, just a couple of things. First one is if you get the opportunity could you delete my personal info that you have in one of your posts, i erased mine but of coarse can't touch yours. The second is if it is possible i would love to meet my vet to get to know him or her a bit before we head into the woods. It would make it a bit more comfortable for both of us. I think this is a great concept and hope to hear from a vet soon.

As of recent, FreedomHunters.org has had an influx of volunteers greatly in part to the good folks here at HuntWa. Due to this, they have been a bit overwhelmed with requests and trying to match those requests with volunteers. I maybe taking a more active role in this process and help to create an online service that will match hunters with volunteers. Moving forward, we will need a little more information from our volunteers especially those willing to take a Vet on their hunt. We will need specifics such as proposed dates, type of hunt, location (not sweet spot location just area specific by closet City or natural resource) and the availability of hunting gear. As for Fishing excursions info such as dates, type, location and gear required would be helpful. These things we will ask offline and not within the forums.
There has been a couple requests to be introduced to the Vet prior to the excursion, when ever possible we will try and make this happen but not always the case due to travel restrictions.
One other item has been brought to my attention and that is the Hunters Safety requirement. It seems this has caused some grief in the past. There is a loophole in the system with a one time exemption for first time hunters. The exemption request cost $20 and the hunter must hunt with another certified hunter that has held a license for the past three years in the state of WA. This person would be a Sponsor and his information would be required in order to obtain the exemption. (not required for bow hunting)This would add a bit of pressure to the Volunteer, as the exemption is a one time exemption.
Anyone else familiar and have comments on this exemption??
We really appreciate all the volunteers, with such a short time remaining before hunting season starts makeing this all happen will be a challenge. I will be creating an online calendar based upon our volunteers information and attempting to match up hunters. Please keep an eye on your email for information.
Thanks again!

thanks ballistic, hope to meet my vet soon. I am a ham radio operator, a prospector, a fisherman (Ruined for the state of WA by fishing in AK). I was raised as a hunter although anymore don't get a lot of hunting in. Prefere just to go out and shoot one.

I'm a disabled vet looking to learn to river fish for the first time this year. Any vets in snohomish or skagit counties want to come along and attempt to learn with me, BS about deployments, and generally make fools of yourselves, are certainly welcome. New to fishing but old to hunting so no skill sets to share, just the ability to talk your ear off. Let me know
-
well i spent 18 months in the middle east and i know what they went through... i have pvt land near orting and i would love to take a few elk hunting.....
-
Still active duty, joined in 97 8) Would love to go on a cougar hunt with hounds :IBCOOL:
-
Active duty since 93, I'm willing to try anything new. Will be hunting early ML deer and elk before leaving in mid- november for my next duty station.
-
hey guys I'm new to the site and about to return home from deployment myself been in for 7-1/2years , how do i get set up to do a elk or deer hunt when i get back within the next month or so? Ive never been elk hunting but have deer hunted in my state of Indiana where I'm originally from. i plan on trying to wing it and do a little upland bird hunting when i get back an have been chatting with another fella about possibly teaming up for a upland/duck hunt when i get back i tried to access the freedomhunters.org website but cant seem to do so from over here, thank and hope to hear back from some of you.

Salt,
If I dont get deployed this winter I'd be more than happy to go duck hunting. My friend is from WA and should be back from his dep around decemberish and has got quite a bit of knowledge on WA. It would be central WA but he is Active Duty as am I. Just a side note from Indiana too.
-
I could help with a spot on a turkey hunt sometime in May. I have controlled access private land in Southeastern WA that would facilitate hunting for someone in a wheelchair.

I am a combat veteran still on active duty and just wanted to share some information about a great organization that I had the honor of dealing with last year called The Sportsmans Foundation For Military Family Members. It is a non profit organization that gives hunting and fishing trips to combat veterans and their families. Their hunts are sometimes aired on the outdoor channel as well as versus. They funded and coordinated a whitetail hunt for myself and my family down in Texas, and it was a experience that I will never forget and will treasure for the rest of my life. I encourage all veterans to contact them and apply, and from what I have seen maybe some people on this site might consider contacting them if they would like to donate their time to help out some combat veterans. Their website is:
huntforvets.com
I think they have been having problems with website, but their phone number is on the site. I just want thank all of the comments on this site from people that support the military, and the people that have helped military members or willing to. It is great!!!!!
-
