Who are the other 3 champion elk callers?
-
or have great hunting spots
:chuckle:
Welcome to the site!
-
I already have 6 sponsors for our videos and I have over 250 shops waiting for our videos to come out!!!
Any more videos besides just the one of you calling on Youtube? What did you demo for your sponsors and shops?
-
I have A calling Seminar Video Coming Out soon!!!..I am going to be doing Elk calling Seminars at Wholesale sports this summer!!!
-
I could use a crew of 8 guys to help me pack one out !
Too bad I dont think my hunting style could handle having a camera crew to follow me around....
I am always interested in Washington videos though, so will be interested in how you do.
-
I'm hunting Idaho this year...you can call for me! ;)
-
Can you get your 8 guys in a treestand and all of them be dead quiet and still? :chuckle:
-
Also, as a newcomer to this site, any field photos of Elk you guys have harvested ?
Not to criticize "Champion" callers, but what do the Elk think of your calling ?
Seems most of the actual elk I hear are not as good at making "Elk" sounds as most callers.
especially mid September, on the coast...

or have great hunting spots
:chuckle:
Welcome to the site!
Thinking the same :chuckle:
And who says hunting has become commercialized?
Good luck in your business
-
Wow, someone comes on here and offers to something great and all you guys do is flip him *censored* and question his calling abilities. :con:

I think guys that come on here and want to advertise their business/ make money should pay like the rest of the Hunt WA sponsors.
I thought that was the idea of sponsors on here. No free advertising for busineses :dunno:
-
I didnt hear him say he was charging anybody anything...did you?
-
All I see is a guy offering to call for someone and video it. Don't see him trying to sell anything.
I've got 12 points, but I only put in for the rut hunts, so still have to get really lucky to draw. If I do though, you guys might be hearing from me, thanks for the offer!
-
I wish I was good enough at elk hunting to get this type of service :'( If only he was wanting a yote hunter......
-
What quality of bull are you looking for?
-
Advertsing your business on here I think is restricted to paying sponsors. :twocents: The guy is in business to sell his calls and mentions this.
I think bearmaniac sells and advertises his calls on here and is a sponsor. :dunno: :dunno:
Personally I cannot imagine dragging other guys with me when I am archery hunting elk and deer. I have a diffcult enough time getting close for a shot by myself when bow hunting but I am not a world champion. But for some hunting now is all about the ego
To me, and I am expressing my opinion as this is a hunting forum, I think hunting is becoming too commercialized with the hype, and yelling after shots, silly catch phrases, the I am a "champion this" and "pro that", product endorsement after every kill etc, ect. These guys look like Nascar drivers now hunting with all of the endorsements they are wearing. I will admit though I owe all of my hunting successes to my cough silencer, bone collector mouth wash and shampoo, butt out tool, deer cocaine, uv blocker and scent lok clothing :)
-
Hell, I hate hunting on sunny days becuse my shaddow takes up too much room and looks like another person! How the hell does anyone hunt with 8 guys behind him unless you are hunting ranch or fed criiters? :dunno: Maybe they can come out and fim me as I arrow a my pet 5x6 in my pasture this fall. They can set up behind my tractor and call from there.

Hey Everyone!!! I need Hunters for this upcoming season!!!...My name is Dustin Howard, I have a production company called Battling bulls productions...I am a World championship elk caller..I took 3rd in the Mens division in the World Championships this year in Reno and am going pro next year!!! Ok RIBKA, in this post, please point out where he is trying to sell you something. I dont have a problem with you or anyone expressing their opionion, but twice you said he is trying to sell you something. If the admins have a problem with what he is doing then they will address the posts in a way they see fit.

I was just curious, as a newcomer to the site, we do not know anything about him.
I did not question his abilities, just curious to see pictures of Elk, I questioned real elks abilities to sound as good as "champion" callers.....

Not trying to offend anyone but I think he is doing this because he is in the business of selling videos. He mentioned his business name in his post. I think there are other paying sponsors on here that sell videos and film hunts. I wish him success in his business as it is a tough market to make money. Anyway you're right up to the mods.
And when someone with no history comes on here proclaiming world champion status and requesting access to your hunting spots just a bit skeptical. Of course I am sure if you took him to one of your secret spots he would never go there with someone else to film a hunt. If he films you is he going to share video sales profits from your hunt? Does one have to sign a release form? If someone has 15 points and they go film your hunt and spook your bull during set up and that is your one shot during the season what would you do? I see he has no filming hunt experience and is a novice videographer.
Not trying to be a dick but maybe a few just some basic questions I think should be addressed :)
-
What also makes me wonder,
if he and his friends " every year we shoot Rosie's in WA and OR " why is he looking for "People in Washington who have a lot of points and are trying to draw coveted tags or have great hunting spots" ?
Why not just film his own hunts ?
It is just curiosity, attempting to get to know about new member,.......... :dunno:
-
I'm curiously watching. I don't find any of the posts asking questions as flipping him crap or being disrespectful. All pretty good questions.
I for one wouldn't be dragging a film crew of 8 around with me if I was seriously looking for a bull, especially with a coveted tag. But that is just me. I kinda wonder how that works for reals. I have a hard enough time being silent, being on the right side of the wind by myself.

exactly what i was thinking.
-
I don't see where he said he has a FILM crew of 8 going on every hunt. Read what he said. . . When he says he has a crew of 8, I take that as the hunting party that takes part in the films, not necessarily all being there at once.
Think of the Angry Spike guys. Theres like 6 or 7 of them in that 'crew', not every one of them is right there putting the stalk on every animal. . . .
I'm sure these guys film their hunts like every other elk hunt that gets filmed. Hunter up front, camera man a bit back from him, and a caller behind them. 3 guys, including the shooter.
And yeah the guy says they hunt roosevelts in Washington and Oregon. They are almost certainly hunting general units most years in both states, the way I see it, they just want to get some draw tags with bigger bulls than your rag horns in general units on film . . .
I swear guys just decide they don't like something and start seeing red. Read what the guy said, understand it, and then comment.
EDIT: And I can see why you guys rip the guy, because he does come across as a bit of a blowhard talking about world champion this and that but still. . . I don't think he's bragging, he's just trying to show his competence. It does give him more credibility than some joe blow coming on here and saying he can call in an elk for you.
-
I think that a little more info would be helpful. Maybe a few posts from previous succesfull hunts? How long have you been hunting washington? Do you plan on having all 8 guys on one hunt? I think it is a great offer for the right guy, just not me. I didnt get the impression that all he is doing is trying to get free advertising. To me it just sounds like he is trying to get some quality footage for his upcoming video. I also don't think he was tooting his own horn saying he is a champion caller, maybe just trying to sound a little more credible than Joe Blow out there slobbering on a bugle. Good luck on the video, I would love to see a Washington elk vid. Welcome to the site.....if you come back. :twocents:
-
hey Alan K, great minds think alike, eh? :chuckle:
-
Haha yeah that's what I was thinking. :chuckle:
-
I also don't see a film crew of one following me either. :chuckle:
-
I'd just think it's easier to assume they film like every other elk hunt rather than the only guys who bring 8 in the brush each time lol . . .
-
Alan K...... I agree
-
I can see what he's after I think execution could be a little better. He want's to make a hunting video, and that's cool, I love hunting footage, especially if done well. However, when you read the first post and words like "world championship" and "year we shoot Rosie's in WA and OR" you'd think there would be more to back that up than one video (which is not a hunting video) on his youtube channel.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Battllingbullsprod (http://www.youtube.com/user/Battllingbullsprod)
As an example the guy who won the pro-division world championship Corey Jacobson (from Elk101.com) and the Men's division winner, Dirk Durham (Corey's hunting buddy) have the elk calling footage to back up their on stage accolades. I mean, you hear plenty about the lack of elk in ID because of the woofs, but their footage isn't helping the hunters cause, they slay some serious bulls.
Congrats on coming in third, congrats on pursuing your new adventure in making a hunting film. But, if I may make a suggestion, people want to know what you can do for them. In this case, if someone was to invite you into their camp, on their long awaited draw hunt they probably want some solid support that you can call in the field and draw in the big boys and aren't someone who can only make elk pretty sounds on a lighted stage.
Here is Elk 101's youtube channel.

Hey Dustin. I respect your work ethic and ambition, but what you should realize is there are some damn good hunters on this site. Men & woman who can go toe to toe with anyone climbing around in the hill with a weapon. These hunters are the salt of the earth. They might not compete for medals or ribbons or trophies -- they're just damn good hunters, that's all.
What I'm saying is your approach, all your flattering talking, won't get you what you want. Your introduction sounds like you are trying to talk yourself up, much as you can. It aint working. I wrote magazine articles for years & never did brag about what a hotshot hunter I was. Editors started liking me & fellow hunters would freely relay their experiences and help me dig up stories. Readers would write to me, and I would never brag -- just answer question politely & wish them the best of luck. In any media related field, your relationship with viewers and your clientele is your big asset. Dropping names or counting up scores is just gonna turn people off. Your image is so important. You gotta make people feel good before they start liking you. Before people will listen, you have to lend and ear. Show patience and compassion. Killing a big bull on film won't make you an icon, but patience and compassion for others surely will.
Sounds like you have the work ethic, and good intentions. You're also young, so you aren't too set in your ways. Now you need to win the hearts of your clients and viewers. Lead by example. Be a good friend to the community. Sincerely offer your video services without talking about yourself. Ask your people questions about past hunts & show interest in them as human beings. Give them a smile & call them by their name. Keep your positive attitude, one of your great assets. Make as many friends as you possibly can. Your business is not about bulls, calls, trophies, and ribbons -- it is 100% people. Real people, like the ones on this site.
I hope you won't take offense to my comments. These are things I would say to my own son. They are things my grandpa taught to me, and his philosophy has served me well.
Best of luck,
Kevin

Absolute spot on advice!
Its evident you are full of enthusiasm and have the world by its tail as many 18-20 year olds do. Good luck and listen to Smokepoles advice.

I love this site!!! If I get drawn for Arizona or Utah I will give you a call. Since I will most likely go down by myself because my wife will be working so it would be good to have a few other callers down there. Any person going down with me will sign a NDA stating that you will not mention the unit or location of that the hunt.
-
What is the biggest bull you killed Ron? I want to see some pictues of dead elk from september. Its what I love to do. Nothing better than calling bulls in September.

I agree with Smokepole, Matt and Alan. It's all about relating to the people (hunters).
We have had a blast this last year starting and getting Primetime Outdoors off the ground. It has been a lot of fun but at the same time has turned into a lot of work. We took the approach that hunting is supposed to be fun and we would not change that, by introducing a camera.
We will never make it rich doing what we are doing. We will be lucky to recoop the costs it took to get started. What we have got in return, is the chance to meet a lot of great people and we look forward to meeting more members of the community in the future.
Primetime Outdoors wishes you the best of luck. Just be yourself and don't try to be who the "professional hunting personalities" make it look like you have to be.
-
I meant no offence, disrespect, or anything, just trying to find out the same information I would ask ANY newcomer to this site, 7 posts, how about more of an introduction, pictures whatever ?
He has a similar add on Primo's Cabin Chat, and I am not really that trusting of someone who has a first post "offering" to come to my spot and film me.
Now if he said come to my spot, I need shooters to film, or started out in introductions showing some animals, even if they were cows....
Just trying to figure out if it would be worth taking a chance and showing him a good area.
Newbies could use a little intro time, before offering "an opportunity you don't wanna miss out on!!!...."
Now if Alwine was making the offer........

That there is a good post.
-
you post a add pretty much you get criticized and you don't respond huh i would think its fishy
-
well i think this post got pretty intimidating for him. i think its as simple as he realized me might be good at something is really excited and wants to do something with it. just simply is going the wrong way and not being a peoples person about it. best advice for ya would be to do as much with friends and family to build a "portfolio" and then come to a site like this with proof to back your abilities in the field. :twocents: everyone has made some good points im just tryin to be positive for him. best of luck to ya tho
-
I think his public relations and communication was lacking but I believe he is excited and has good intentions. I think we have given him plenty of good advice. I am sure he gets the point by now. We can probably cut him a break at this point.
-
I want to see some pictures!!!!

Also, just to comment on videos, my :twocents:
As someone who watches a lot of hunting shows/ videos, and likes very few......
I am tired of the same old "look what I did" shows, I have fantasized about making my own, but cannot afford the gear.
Let alone I hunt with Traditional Archery and only manage to get an Elk every 6 years or so, so I don't have the success of a lot of others.
Although a lot of that has to do with hunting a spike only area, and running into more branched bulls than spikes. :bash:
My largest Bull harvested is a 5X7 that scores 242 5/8", but I do get chances at an Elk every year, usually get a doe for eating, so I am not the best subject to star in a video.
What I would like to see though is a video that spends more time explaining the basics, as in, what to look for, where to look, how to set up.
Why you use certain calls in different situations, etc......
I enjoy seeing "horn porn" as much as the next guy, but really, consider any animal harvested on public land in Washington, during general season with archery tackle a trophy.
And would appreciate more emphasis on what brought you to that point, than a video of the last 4-5 minutes before/during the shot, and another 5 minutes of "look at this".
I have enjoyed taking new hunters, (and even a couple non-hunters) out for a day in the woods, and calling in an Elk (some really good bulls even) just to show them what it is all about, at least to me, and showing them how and why I hunt increases my satisfaction and does a lot more towards getting them interested than just showing them a dead animal.
I have never entered a competition, but feel that I can call with the best of them, and as I stated earlier, sometimes real elk sound worse than hunters.
I wish you luck with your endeavor, and look forward to seeing more Washington video's.
-
What kind of camera you got and how much hunt video experience do you have. It is turning into a pretty popular thing for guys to do the video thing and all but in reality the guys who have actually done it some know it takes a ton of money and a lot of hunts and $$$ to get enough footage for one video to actually be produced that will return you a couple bucks a piece!! I have a $2500 camera and have filmed probably 6 good quality hunts and only 1 has made a video and that is over several years. I know a lot of this sounds critical but maybe it is more some guys who have tried it or are doing it talking realism. If I were 20 years old and really wanted to get in this field of outdoor/hunt video, I would get in with someone who already makes hunting videos and get behind one of their cameras to learn and make a buck. I posted a few weeks ago about Steve Chappells film school in May and that would be a great first step and I bet if you show him you have a knack for it he would put you on a camera next fall maybe not making any $$ but you would learn a ton and get to be in big bulls every day. Anyways good luck in your venture and don't let the camera thing take the fun out of the hunt. nwhunter

I am actually already booked for that school in phoenix....I just got off the phone with him a hour ago..I have the priveledge of knowing steve very well...he has taught me a lot about how to elk call and hunt over the last few years. In my mind Steve is the best elk caller/hunter in the world...I thought if I'm going to learn how to do this i should learn from the best....He told me he is going to kickstart this whole thing for me!!!.sooo I'm very excited:).I'm going to learn and take in everything in from this school:)

I talked to steve last month and had the oppurtunity to work for chappell service but I decided not to because I told him I wanted to make my own videos!!!.I might go down to arizona and have him help me edit it if the filming goes good this summer/fall..I just bought (2) $2400 cameras with all the gear...I hunted last year for 2 weeks and filmed a hunt in eastern oregon for my dad...I could have gotten close to making a video last year if I had a camera....if I would have had a camera I might have gotten 5 rosie kills and 2 rocky mountain kills on tape....and you also can put call ins on your video...every year my dad goes on one of the best ranches in EA Oregon and you can get some great footage there!!!...this year I am going to film for 2 months straight for elk..the beauty of being young:)..already got my schedule booked to film hunts in eastern oregon, western oregon, western wa...I am going to try to get as much footage as possible!!!..I think it would be sweet to get a great WA hunt on the video where someone shoots a great bull in the blue mountains or margaret...it would really attract a lot of people and the footage you could get would be priceless and make great memories:)

Sounds like you have a plan. Good luck & go for it!

Now wait a minute. This isn't going to turn into a "shake that bear" type video is it?
-
If I draw an EW elk ml tag I'll let you know..... Sorry my points are waiting for something on the east side!!!!!!! :dunno: I'll even let you know if I get that cow tag!!! Hope everything works out for you and you get what you want out of it.....

Are you still trying to figure out how to upload pictures?

Don't forget about checking with the forest service and obtaining the filming permit where needed. If you are selling the video then you need a permit. It is or can be sold by a day basis. You will need to figure out who is paying for that I guess. I have heard of people getting calls from the Forest Service years after they filmed and sold the footage!
I have some elk points built up but I am not interested in drawing attention to increase the odds for us anymore than necessary. ;)
Good luck!

Filming Elk Hunts is Harder then you would think, practice practice practice.. Ive Effed up my share of good footage.. And remember even more practice.. its one thing filming a deer or a elk heard just standing there, but when you got a screamer coming in with your nervs thumping and your adrenalin kicking in and you want to watch and then you forget your rolling tape, you can Eff everything up... and zoom in to much or watching and not filming.. blah blah blah.. Its def harder then you would think, espesially if your a hard core hunter, cause you want watch instead of film.. :twocents: Good luck Dude!.. Get all the advise from the people who have filmed hunts that you can.. :twocents:

Or thinking your hitting the record button and its all ready recording and then it pauses it... :yike:. and a screaming bull comes in and you think you have everything on film then you check and aaahhh effff.. thanks Dad...
& my advice never check your footage while your in the woods on your hunt, cause you can record over your awesome footage you have already taped.. done that too... If your serious about being hunting video dude, take all that in to count and always have your camera in your bag and practice.. .. Filming hunts is adicting but can piss you off.. I know this has happend to plenty of other huntin vid dudes.. Good luck again!.. :)
