Fastest IBO I can find is the PSE XForce at 352 FPS. Anything faster out there?
-
Not that I have seen yet. I shot a lot of different bows over the last week, from various makers. The fastest I shot was 350. Too bad the cam seems so aggressive........
Thought Bowtech had the fastest in the 82nd Airborne?
-
I'm curious what draw length and what the arrow weight is for them to pull those numbers. It seems with those speeds, your going to sacrifice a good chunk of accuracy. :dunno:
MS
-
That stands to reason, I don't think I would seriously look at anything advertised over 320-330. My Parker is rated at 287 and it seems to have plenty of punch.
-
I am speaking strictly from IBO.
The rating on the SlayerX is 350, but at my draw and hunting arrow, it would be much lower........
I just bought a Bengal (Martin) last night rated at 315-320, but I will never see numbers like that at 28"dl. I would like to see around 280, but not sure if that is feasible either.
-
Those speeds are measured with a 30 inch draw at 70lbs and a 5 grain per inch "IBO" arrow. So much lighted than what we're allowed to use here in this state...
-
Also, each inch of draw lenght you cut to go shorter the more and more speed you'll begin to lose... The longer the arrow is on the string, the faster the bow will be!
-
I shoot an 80lb vucan at 29in draw My arrows weigh 445 grains and I am getting about 296fps.
The IBO on the vucan-Katera is about 330

HOLY COW Passion!! You shooting armoured cars with that thing?! :chuckle: :dunno:
-
Grizz bears and bighorn sheep.....well we hope anyway.
-
Grizz bears are on the docket in the next couple of years just need to find the "one"
And someone that I trust to back me up when my ass is on the line :dunno:
-
I'll back you up as long as you don't make me carry the whole damn thing out.
-
Last big bear I shot the friggin hide + fat and skull was 173lbs..........it was so heavy that I was sinking in the mud on the river flats + it smelled like rotten fish :puke:
I had to carry it 2.5 miles and it almost broke me....it was flat too
-
Now did you want me to back you up witht he longbow or would you rather I used a rifle for that. :chuckle:
I bet. Them things bring a new meaning to huge. That big coastie that I ran into moose hunting was basically unfathonable for me.
-
You have got to have large cajones to go after them with a bow. My hats off to you.
Mine are to tiny to attempt that yet. Someday I will grow up and be a real man. (who am I kidding? That will never happen!)
-
The raw hides are retarded to deal with...its not like you can just cut it in half + you usually in a hurry because its getting dark and the there are other bears in the area.....stick bow might be more interesting :chuckle:
-
Have you ever shot those grizzly stix or whatever they are called.
-
No I talked to the inventor about 6 mounths ago nice guy. I like a little flatter shooting rig and with those arrows its like a rainbow
-
I was worried about that. Like you though, I am shooting a pretty heavy set-up. Soemthing to say about the right mix of speed and weight. Light is definatley not the meal ticket. Excited about the PM. Will be interested in trying them.
I'm too light on my trad set up. I have to boost it up or my manufacturer might void the warranty. ;)
I'd be curious how fast my trad bow shoots. Its faster than any other I have shot. Nothing like winging sharp sticks!
-
Years ago I read an article where a guy took a brownie with a 85lb recurve, but he used a fiberglass fish arrow. Is that like the Grizzly Sticks you mentioned? Just a big, heavy arrow?

My 82nd shoots 319 at 65lbs. with a 29 in. draw length. I just measured it the other day at Lucky Shot.
-
my martin says the IBO speed is 300 but i dont think it shoot near that. :bs:

If you put it at a 30" draw and crank it to 70 lbs and used a 350 grain arrow it would probably be closer!? :dunno:
-
there's a show on my dvr where the guy and his dad are bowhunting dahl sheep and he chrony'ed his pse and it was running at 372fps. i almost crapped myself when i saw that. he was shooting targets at 110 yards, and killed a ram at 40-50 yards....said his 40+50 pins were so close together it didn't matter which pin he used. i think it was the hunters journal with jason houstley.
-
man that seems almost to fast?! haha Arrow flight over 280 can get a little shakey with broadheads?! But, anything is possible I suppose?? :dunno:
-
You wouldn't have a problem with the speed from an accuracy standpoint. The equipment that is available today is made for those speeds. You probably won't get a Zwickey or Bear Razorhead to fly very well at those speeds, most likely, but there are a half-dozen good compact broadheads that will fly like darts. You might play heck getting good flight from an aluminum arrow, but the carbon revolution came about just for this very reason; and every carbon arrow manufacturer is making arrows that will react to the speed just fine.
The fact of the matter is that the technology has outpaced our ability to grasp the concepts a little, so we tend to doubt that the speed would be controllable. Some day in the very near future we'll be posting that there's no way to control 550fps arrows, and we'll be wrong again.

I shot an X-force and love it thus the screen name. I believe it still is the fastest bow on the market. Accuracy hasnt been a problem but i also shoot a 300 gran full metal jacket arrow with a 125 gran G5 broadhead. With a total arrow weight around 425grans i dont have much arch at 50 or even sixty yards and all that weight provides some awesome KO power.

i loved shooting the x-force though im not a big fan on the draw cycle or the looks of the bow. but its a shooter thats forsure.
-
Yeah, I hear ya on the draw cycles.
Every real speed bow I shot had a nasty cycle that for a bow used just for hunting, might be tolerable. I like to shoot everyday, and the harsh cycle is not condusive to comfortable shooting for long periods IMO.
The Slayer X is one screaming bow, but after about 10 shots, the draw became a pain. Not hard to draw, just uncomfortable.
That is probably one of the biggest reasons I opted for the Bengal, next to pricing.
-
i havent gotten to shoot the slayer yet. but i think i may just stay away from it lol.
ill just stick to the buttery smooth draw of my recurve lol
-
I hear ya. I was eyeballing a Dream Catcher at the Nock. Sure was nice.
But I like the Saphirre archery bows too.

My old Pearson Spoiler Plus that I bought new around 1990-91 it was the fastest bow on the market at the time and was advertised at 235 fps or something like that but this one had the wrong limbs installed from the factory and being the first bow I had ever shot I had no idea what to expect. The bow shop guy was excited to see it because it was the first he had seen so he wanted me to shoot a few arrows from it. Man they were screaming out of the bow so fast he wanted me to shoot through a chrono. If I remember right they were around 300 fps. That was unheard of at the time (early 90's) so he measured the poundage of the bow and it measured at 94 lbs of pull. I had never shot a bow before so I had no idea that was way to much pull for a bow :chuckle: I toned it down to 85 lbs for most of my hunting with it and the last year I used it it dropped it to 74 lbs
