What are your experiences with both and which would you say is better in the .30 caliber range?

Both are probably going to be as accurate as you are. Personally though I wouldn't buy either not a big fan of push feed action. Any rifle you buy these days is going to be as accurate as you want reguadless of brand just as long as it is a good brand. But reliability of a controlled feed is what I suggest ie; Winchester, Ruger, Kimber, CZ. My suggestion Ruger (most bang for your buck). If your into remington they made a controlled feed a few years back known as the model 798. And if I were to by a Weatherby it would have to be the MarkVIII. But it's not controlled feed so I woudn't buy one(maybe used if it was a real good deal). Just my 2 cents.Note if you buy a weatherby in a weatherby actiom ammo price is generally expensive but then again all ammo is expensive these days.

Either one of them are well made strong actions, there are a few more after market accesories avail for theRem.  As far as push feed versus controlled round feed as long as the push feed has been around and how reliable they are I would not even put it into the equation.  One thought on CRF they very rare in the target comunity.

From my dealings with weatherby and remington I would go weatherby and never look back. The stock on the sps is junk and they are very heavy. both will shoot sub moa with reloads and nothing else and some will do it with factory ammo too. I like the triggers in the weatherby more and trust the safty on the weatherby a lot more. Ive had three remingtons go bang with the safty on and not even get hit.

Another vote for the Weatherby Vangaurd. You wont be sorry. I have not been impressed with Remingtons rifle quality for quite a few years now.

the new vanguard 2 is coming out this year and is a sub moa gun. Remington quality has gone down hill lately.

For a bare bones rifle that flat works webbys are great. If you want a light gun or a custom configuration REM will likely be the choice. Both make good rifles.

I have the REM 700 SPS in 300 RUM,

I would not trade it for anything. To each is his own...  Don't care about MOA and all the B.S. about putting 3 bullets in a 1/2 circle.
It has killed every animal I ever shot at, and never gave me any issues. I have owned mine for 7 years....

bunch a REMINGTON haters on here......  :twocents:

Don't hate remington I won't shoot anything but a 870. The Sps is different then the high dollar rem rifles from what I've seen.

Well, to be clear, the Vauguard is actually a Howa.. made for Weatherby. They are comming out with a new version.. you can check it out here:

http://www.weatherby.com/vanguardseries2/ (http://www.weatherby.com/vanguardseries2/)

The *KEY*differences between the Remington 700 and the Vanguard is "guaranteed accuracy" from Weatherby.

I have both a Rem 700 XCR II and the Vanguard Sub MOA.. best 'out of the box" rifle?... Vanguard.

I agree, remington has not been able to get any rifle in normal working order to fire with the safety on

I shoot a Howa 1500 (same as the Weatherby) and my Dad has a 700 SPS. Both are .270

My Howa will shoot very tight groups and the best we have got with the SPS is around 1½" @100yds. Plus, Dad has had some clambering issues with his SPS. Overall, I am not impressed with the SPS.  :twocents:

That's called "MOE" (Minute Of Elk) and it tends to work pretty well.   I never develop a taste for those paper targets.:chuckle:

Picked up a Vanguard earlier this month in a .243.  So far, gotta say its well worth the money.  Not really happy with the bolt action so much but it sure shoots nice.  Went to the range this morning and shot 4 out of 5 rounds inside 1.1" at 200 yards.  Very happy.

In that price range I would take a look at the TC Venture.
