Just a thought for a good continuous thread, throw up your reports for river's, saltchuck, wherever your catching your nooks and slab coho's. Throw something up even if your not successful, let other's know what's going on out there. I haven't been out yet, but I'm picking up the boat next week after overhaul, ready to go.
-
Hit MA 13 yesterday for crab an salmon. Salmon was slow didn't see anything caught, though there are a ton of baitfish in the area. Crabbing was just OK, weather was 8).
-
I have been fishing MA 13 and doing pretty well. Last wed. was good with 10#, 15# and 22#, the next day nothing. Have not been out since but soon.
-
Good day for June. Usually it doesn't pick up for a couple weeks. With all that bait around the fish have to be there sooner or later.
-
They are there if you are in the right place. If there is bait there will be fish. We have been catching fish all month, along with a few seals as well. The first salmon I had on for the year I lost to a seal.
-
My issue is keeping an eye on my pots. I usually only end up fishing an hour or two each time out because I "lose" my pots every time they are out of sight any length of time. I plan to get out during peak season and leave the pots at home.
-
By "lose" you mean some Ash Wipe steals them?
That is why I never get out of sight of them anymore. Even though I can find there place with the GPS, they are not there because someone thought it would be cool to steal them :bash:
-
Hit the lower columbia friday and saturday. We went 3-5. Plunking from an island with spin-n-glows.
-
Exactly DeKuma, I watched yesterday while one boat kept trying to sneak in around us and check our pots for nearly two hours. He was doing nothing but drinking with his buds, not fishing, crabbing, anything. He finally left after it was apparent I wasn't going to let them out of sight. Absolutely everyone I've talked with down there has had problems, it's one I guess the law just doesn't give a *censored* about. In Maine, where we used to Vaca. when I was a kid, you could legally shoot someone for pulling your lobster pot, in the act. Don't know if that's the case now, but it sure was effective.
-
I lost about $200 in traps in area 10 a few years ago. I think shooting them is a great idea! >:(
-
I had 4 pots stolen at Nisqually last year on opening day. That was the last time that I took off and left the to soak alone!!! There were several others who had all of their pots stolen that day as well. My friend at the WDFW said that it was probably one of the Squaxin's or Nisqually's who are notorious for that kind of crap.
-
That is what I've heard from locals also.
-
I hate coming back to check our pots and be missing some. We've had decent luck with keeping our pots at hood canal, but a couple have managed to disappear. We leave em out all night though so we are taking a chance.

I am thinking of heading out to area 13 (vaugn bay) on thursday anyone heard of any fish coing out of there in the last few days? it was pretty slow last week when I went.
Carl
-
Yes. That's a good bet right now.
-
Can't wait until they hit the rivers
-
MA 10 has been slow. Some bait but it is very deep.
Have seen a few silvers on the surface and I am going to give it a shot tonight.
-
Saw a bunch of boats on the Columbia today! Anybody hear how the salmon have been? Thinking of heading out tomorrow and trying some buzzbombs from the shore or maybe use some eggs with a bobber... All from the shore.
Michael
-
Columbia is closed for salmon. You can catch steelhead. Try plunking spin-n-glows with shrimp tails.
-
Columbia is still open for sockeye salmon...
We are catching alot of SH right now.
-
Hit area 11 real hard yesterday. Pretty slow from the previous Sunday which I heard was killer. Fished out front of Gig Harbor and then headed to the clay banks for the tide change. Kind of a funky tide, out of about 40 boats, we only witnessed one fish about ten pounds a guy caught mooching. No luck for us, not even a takedown. Still kinda early I think.
MS
-
Columbia is open on the east side from Rock Island up to Chief Joe. Was out on the 1st and put 3 in the boat. Try at Wells where the fish ladder dumps in if your fishin off the beach.
-
They are catching them in the Cascade river. I have yet to hook up but I have seen them caught all around me. :bash:
-
Went out and fished by Wenatchee Yesterday morning for about 5 hours... Didn't see a fish caught, talked to a few guys and it seems a lot of the fish are still down south and they're lookin for it to pick up in a week or two...
And since when could you not use a treble hook with a buzz bomb??? I guess to many complaints about guys snagging fish and not turning 'em loose or something...

Had a great morning today with 6 kings to the boat. :IBCOOL:
trolling in the sound with plugs at 85-125' down.
all cookie cutter hatchery fish.

Come on man, just a little more deets? Some pics maybe?
I will be staying at Beebe Bridge the 17th -21st. We went up and checked out the Wells area by boat last year and there were about 50 lined up on shore and 20 or so boats trolling around. Saw some nice fish caught but have no clue how to fish for them up there. Anyone on here know how to fish from a boat up there? Some looked to be using divers, some downriggers but not sure on the bait, flasher, dodger etc. Any help would be appreciated, I would like to give it a try since everyone in camp will be sleeping in over there anyway. I can get a couple good hours of fishing in before the hang-overs kick in. :chuckle:

Huntnphool, downriggers with brined cut plug herring or wigglewarts also try superbaits. Goodluck
-
Thanks Ironhead

Kind of tough to get pics when it's a C&R fishery and he's the only guy in the boat.... I'm sure when we hit it once the season opens for keepers we'll manage a picture or two!
-
Good point. Heading out this weekend, going to hit it hard.

Not really a report then if you don't share the location. Area 10?
-
1 nice king tonight. None last night, 2 the night before. pretty spotty this year.
-
Come on Professor, PICTURES PLEASE
-
Caught this one on sunday at Brewster Pool on Columbia...trolling brined plug cut herring behind a dodger..Nice and Bright water temps are upper 50's in mainstem to low 60's in Okanogan. Fish netted by my buddy the Mailman.
-
Nice fish, always good to see chrome and bright fish. Is that up near Lake Chelan???
-
Nice fish.
-
Fished Mid Channel out of Pt. Townsend area 9 and got a 20 clipped yesterday and an 8 today. lost 2 other good ones. There were quite a few nets flying both days. Get them before they close it. I won't make it there again before the quota is filled. Sekiu is hit and miss. The Halibut fishing was great this year. :EAT:
-
Mike, will it be open next weekend as far as you know? I know they said 15 days.
-
pretty good this weekend. Landed a lot of natives friday but managed to find a couple hatchery fish as well.
Saturday we put 3 in the boat and sunday we managed 4.
Hasnt been hot but sporadic fluries are making it interesting.
-
Anybody do any good outside Possession this weekend?
I spent about 4 hrs. out there on the opener last Wednesday and most of the day and evening on Thursday and came out with one fish. Nothing like it was last year. Sh.t ton of boats out there, very few fish being caught.
-
I hit MA11 hard last weekend, slow on Saturday, saw one fish caught in five hours. I guesss Sunday was better with 50-60 caught, really hit or miss still.
-
There's a 7000 fish quota in 9, I'm not sure if they include 10 in that also so next weekend would be iffy. It might stay open you just have to watch for any announcements.
-
Heading to MA12 in the morning. Fished it last week with no luck.
-
Glad to hear some of you are having success. MA10 has been really slow. I've been out 7 times and have not even had a bite! Anyway, I don't think we will reach the quota nearly as soon as last year. Look at the fish check numbers from this past weekend and compare them to last year at about the same time. It's going to take awhile to fill the quota at this pace.

Landed 3 shakers and this nice hen today in MA 12.

Nice work Brent, is that a "Purple Haze" I see? ;)
-
Nope, it is the solid mylar on both sides with the green stripe down the middle on one side. Don't know if it has a name.

Same as the Purple Haze just in green, they are the hot ticket in Canada. The tackle shops cant keep the purple in stock. Hotspot makes some great color combos and those UV flashers look like lights in the water.
-
I used to get custom made flashers from a place in Victoria that closed last year, they worked really well, red army truck. Now I make them myself. Spot on, UV PH is a killer too.
-
Fished out of Westport Sunday real slow out there to just 1 small king. :(
-
If there's nothing even in the highway, we are in for a long wait. I wouldn't expect consistency in the Sound for another couple weeks.
-
It looks like less than 1500 kings have been taken in MA 9 and 10 so far. With a 7000 combined quota there still is time.
-
Landed a nice fat 24-25 pounder in the net today in area 11. Unfortunately it was considered "wild" by the fish and game and I had to let it go. Had one other on for a few, but lost it. They make it hard fishing barbless singles with a jig. Only fished the tide change too, but heard the early morning guys did alright. Other than that, saw a few caught too.
MS
Oh yeah, I'm going to sound like a hypocrite for not snapping a picture, but I forgot my camera.
-
Yep, the one on the right is what I was running.
-
I picked up a couple of the UV flashers the other day. Didn't get a chance to try em out today. Kinda hard to try them also when the good ol green or red Hot Spot work killer. It was too much fun with the jig rods to let down the rigger's today anyhow.

-
it should stay open awhile as long as the quota doesnt get destroyed by everyone fishing Mid Channel and northern MA 9.
-
I heard that if a certain number of fish are taken in 9 (like 4000) they would close 9 and keep the remaining quota for 10. Anyone heard that?
-
That's what I heard also, no more than 4k from area 9.
-
The Skoks are netting a few around Potlatch. One had a couple dozen 6-12 pounders at the Saltwater Park launch yesterday.
-
They were setting their net as we were running back in yesterday. I heard the got 10 on Sunday and none on Monday as well.
-
Talked with a friend that was out yesterday in the bay, took him 15 minutes to land a 13# and 20#, said he has been knocking them dead for more than a week now.
-
5 fish in the last 3 days. not bad for this season. :dunno:
I sure hope the quota lasts until Aug 15. although it should close in the next week i would think.

7-30 to 7-31 Fishing out of Westport 35 miles south was very good, if near limits on chinook to 25 and some 10-12lb hatchery coho.....was told we were approx 10 north of ilwaco
-
My dad has been doing pretty well in area 11. He's been taking out one of his buddies and they brought in 4 fish in two trips, and had to release a couple. Were going out in tomorrow morning. Hopefully we do alright.

Hey, I've seen him out there, Tiderunner. I'll be out probably Friday and maybe Monday also, I'm getting tired of eating skunk soup. Slow year for me.
-
What do you fish out of? Ive probably seen ya. We went out at the tide change today for a couple but no luck. We generally stay away on the weekends. They were out the day of the derby and didn't buy any tickets :bdid: We used to keep my dads (mine now) 14' Lund down at the boathouse. That was back in my mooching days :chuckle: After pops bought the Tiderunner, we mainly fish out of it with the electric scotty's or you'll see us jiggin. Nows the time to get out!!!

I fish out of the PD ramp. Burgundy Custom Weld 21'.
-
Got one (14 lbs.)at the slag pile in area 11 this morning. Maybe 150 boats(does anybody work?) and saw a few caught, the fishing seemed slow for this time of year. Good luck!
-
Its amazing how many guys are out there on a weekday, well, I'm generally one of them :IBCOOL: but I also work full time. Ive had problems getting them into the boat this year around the clay banks, havn't had any problems hookin up though. Im going to start fishing Chambers real soon. Its only a five minute boat ride when I launch at the Fox Island ramp. Nice job with the fish! Looks like we are going to have some hot weather again, perfect time for a BBQ!

ive been hitting the rivers everywhere. couple great days here and there for steelhead but mostly its slow and low.
been hitting a few salmon in the marine areas aswell.
-
Muleysniper, have you heard any reports from Chambers, there has been a few boats and the indians are netting it now. Thought I would give a try early next week also.
-
I heard guys are getting them at Chambers. I'll hit it up next week. My dad and I fished the clay banks this morning. Out of about 75 boats, we caught 2. We never saw another boat even get their net out, maybe we were just lucky :IBCOOL:. I'll post a couple pics tomorow. It was nuts how many boats were out.
MS
-
I managed to go out for a couple hours this morning to Chambers before starting my "honey do" list today. Counted about 40 boats, saw one other caught. My dad landed this nice one, I lost another :bash: I'm starting to see a trend with my pictures only including my dad and not myself :fishin:

Hopefully we get some rain this week to move in some fresh fish.

Anyone been to buoy 10 area? Heard they have been killing them (Kings)? Curious for information? Going next week Wed and Thurs, so just prepping for the trip. What has been hot and working? Trolling incoming or outgoing? Mooching? Divers? Back Trolling? Come on someone has been tearing them up, right?

If your going to the Columbia Buoy #10 area you had better Hurry - the famous F & G have stopped retention after this weekend for Chinooks. :'( Just as I get another trip planned next Wednesday and Thursday, (Same with Sturgeon) they terminate the retention... Man, I catch fish but they can't be scared I'm coming down there are they? :chuckle: Anyone been out to the sound lately, Pullayuap River mouth, Nisqually Mouth, etc....????? Now that I ask they probably terminate this also......
-
Now I am pissed to beat hell!!!!! >:( I took my boat into a certain shop in downtown Oly over 4 weeks ago to have a simple pump fixed. I told them that I needed my boat in no more than 3 weeks. I had planned to fish Buoy 10 today, tomorrow and Sunday as well as a couple of days next week. I scheduled time off of work a year ago. Wouldn't you know that the *censored*s still have my boat torn apart and just forgot about it. Not only am I going to miss fishing this weekend, but now the whole f-ing season!!!!! Buoy 10 is one of my favorite and most successful spots to fish, I wait all year for it. Damn it!!! Now they are shutting it down early? I am so pissed that I won't be able to sleep tonight. I am glad that the kids are asleep. I am going down to my barn to pummel a sheet of plywood with a hammer. Sorry for the bitch session.
-
Hit up the gig harbor shoreline this morning and went 1 for 3 with a nice low teens buck in the box. Saw one of the lost fish and guesstimate him to be in the mid teens. Hopefully they don't all leave with the rain. I'd like one more shot!
