Anyone know the guy from Selah whose name was drawn for the WDFW turkey permit?
-
What permit?
-
Yelp, I know you are not from Selah, so you did not draw the permit. I am very sure you are aware of the permit that allows you to start hunting on April 1st and hunt through 12/31. Plus you get 3 extra tags.
I talked to a guy selling the tickets at the Puyallup Sportsmans show a few years back. He shot two easterns on the first, a rio and two merriams before the 15th. I think you are eligible for 8 tags.

Just to clarify..It is normally a raffle not a permit..second nothing was advertised about this years raffle to the public like in previous years. In previous years it was drawn at the Bighorn show but was also advertised on the web. I never saw an advertisement? I am very curious as to when and where this all took place? Do you know who was in charge? I never had an opportunity as well as many other sportsman I know. Also a couple more points to clarify...normally winners are selected for an addtional three tags and a season of April 1 - May 31.

Thanks Yelp for the clarification. I probably am a little confused due to being under the weather.
As you may know the NWTF for Spokane folded or something like it.
The Bellevue chapter won the bid to sell the tickets. I don't think they had their act together, so there was not much in the way of advertisement. The bid may have been at the 11th hour. I had to ask other chapters to find out who was selling the tickets.
I did a google search and did not find who was selling the tickets. I located a NWTF chapter member who told me whom to contact. Phantom Gobbler was there at the dinner (I would have been there but I have been fighting a terrible cold).
Even he was unaware of the drawing.
Hopefully next year there will be an advertisement.
I am a long time member, but due to the fact I am pretty far away from a chapter, I have never attended a meeting.
It is the same for PF, DU, etc. My job starts at 5:30am and I usually am in bed long before this, but my cold kept me up.

Since I believe 1999? Normally it is advertised but this year it apparently wasn't. I have bought tickets every year. Oh well. The objective like any state raffle is to raise money for Wild Turkey, elk, sheep, whatever. The better you advertise the more money you raise is my thought. I am sure someone got selected as the winner sound like someone from Selah, WA. Congrats!

Yelp, since your pm box was full, I wanted to tell you I bought enough tickets for both of us.

All NWTF Chapters are encouraged to sell the raffle tickets ... they just did the drawing at the Lake Washington (Bellevue/Issaquah) chapter. It gives the winner the opportunity to get 3 extra tags and allows them to hunt all of April and May plus Sept thru December (6 months) ... all other regulations still apply (ie - bearded birds in the spring, etc).
Due to work and family health issues, I wasn't involve a lot with the raffle this year and resigned after 10 years from the State BOD, as the local chapter president in my area, etc. I figured they would be selling them at the sportmen shows. I believe they also sell them through the State NWTF chapter website. Again they could probably do a lot better job of it such as putting a blurb on this and other websites. You can also get public service announcesment in all papers for free as a 501(c)3.

The NWTF State chapter was awarded the ability to do the raffle this year after a major "conservation" group from the West side originally won the bid to run it and backed out at the last minute leaving not the only the state in a big snafu, but it left us in a scramble mode to get things organized. Apparantly, this raffle was not going to be lucrative enough for that group to raise money for their group, and they jumped ship and carried on with the other 6 bids they won for other species.
The few remaining State BOD members were issued tickets at the annual meeting in Ellensburg, and had them available for sale from January through last weekend. We would love to have others involved with not only this annual raffle, but our state gun raffle for a .270 Weatherby Vanguard with a Leupold scope and case, and other upcoming projects involving the Klickitat WMA oak thinning project, and others. The efforts of those who did sell and buy tickets this year, you are greatly appreciated.
If you have ideas about how we can improve the raffle, please feel free to attend a meeting and provide your input through your involvement in the organization. We would certainly welcome the help and constructive input from members of the hunting community. As far as advertising goes, it is expensive and provides very little return as can be evidenced by the historical dismal expense to income ratio. We actually had so few sales in the prior years that we ended up losing money due to the combination of buying too much advertising and not selling enough tickets. Yes we could post it on here, and try for PSA spots, but inevitably, we cannot please everyone, and we end up with monday morning quarterbacks letting us know how it should be run. :'(
We have an upcoming summer meeting on July 15th where we would welcome people who are interested in the conservation efforts of the NWTF. If you would like information on this, please let me know through a PM.

i guess im still wondering, is this a nwtf thing or is it available to anyone? ive never heard of it and no one ive asked since the op has. if you end up with additional tags and a longer season then why isnt in the regs? and since it has to be approved by the wdfw for additional tags & expanded seasons why isnt it more publicised. i dont mean to sound like a dumbazz, i like to know the regs, but again ive never heard of this. did i miss the boat or catch the train when they were handing out brains?

The raffle is available to all - look under special drawings and permits in your regs.

TurkeyHntr - Most all newspaper do free PSA's --- just don;t say advertisement or you get charged. I may still have a list of all daily, weekly, & monthly papers in the state with their e-mail POCs. PM me if interested.
Yelp - I'm going to make a quick trip in honor of my son and pop a couple thunderchickens for him. Going to Colville/kettle Falls on the 14th and will leave upon 2 down (hopefully opening morning, but nlt later than noon on the 19th. I will try and stop by for awhile ... will call if I can.
