I'm looking to take some guys out for some big ones. I have the boat/places, just needing to help with gas $
On an average day, gas will run $150-175+ and can take 4 guys comfortably.
Gas at teh marina might be around $5 easily so...

I have fished there bunches of times and the dogfish are so thick in there when you reel one up there are at least 5-10 more follow it up to the boat, you must be jiggin or using B-2 Squids ??
-
herring and octupus. i bet ive only cought a couple dogs in all thows years .ive cought more skate and dogs at 31--36 line then all the other spots.

I call that 31-36 the Bermuda Triangle cause every time I go there something bad happens, I got run over out there once and have had engine trouble more times then I ever wanted but only when I go out there plus its a snaggy bank and few fish. I prefer FWB but its such a long run from PA and over the Elwah bar is usually a rough SOB. I have done really well right off the hook over the years and a tiny spot off Morse Creek. We took 2 fish that won 3rd and like 23rd in the derby one year on a bank out north of GP a little ways but its soooo deep and small its really hard to fish !!
-
That is a great offer! It is a possibility I could go but I dont have any gear. Is that a problem?
-
I will be out for the opener in the straights. Im in a White/silver 22'North River in-board. If you see me stop by and say hi. Also will be on the radio. I usally fish out of anacortes head southwest towards hein. Have some decent spots I fish there. We lost one last year that was probably around 100lbs or so on the opener.
-
I'm thinking of heading out to the straits for the first time this year. Anyone want to give me some tips? Probably a long shot to ask folks to divulge their secrets, but it can't hurt to ask.

As long as you are prepared to be schooled in the gentleman's sport of fishing. Remember my lesson in archery elk? 8)

We put in at Anacortes and motor around the Cattle Point at San Juan, Then we head out to the halibut hole from there. We are heading out on opening morning and have several boats that will be caravan out and chatting VHF while there...good to have buddies to get hints on rigs, bait and to brag about the catch. Also good if something happens and you need help.
Anybody going out there is welcome to tagalong in their boat and join the group. This is a good way to get out there and maintain a safety net when several miles from land! We generally stay on channel 71.

PJB or OSCAR, let me know if you have space or want a follow-along.

I'm not going on the opener but going the 6th and 7th, then next week after that
-
Count me in If there is any room left. Pretty flexible with what days I can go and have some gear!

we are all about the follow along...
we love to have several more boats to follow us out and join in on the opener out past san juan island. we get a bunch of boats drifting side by side and radio smack talkin all day...just plain fun and a chance of takin home some butts
when one of us hits, we share info on baits, depth and even tighten up...where one but hits, there are always several more around.
-
What do you guys use for bait out there? Wish I had saved some pink heads. We did pretty well with those up in AK last year. Do you have a schedule figured out yet? You launch out of Washington Park?
-
salmon heads...check!
Washington Park....check!
Alaska Halibut experience....check!
We will put in early Thursday morning. Looking for a spot to camp on the islands that night, and hit it again Friday.
also open to suggestions!
-
You can camp out here. I am sure we can find a place or two for some tents. James Island is a nice spot as well. Not sure if they are charging there by then.
What day is that?
Ed
-
the night of the 5th
we have 2 tents and a little gear
is there any facilities available?
-
Facilities? Pee in the woods, drink from the puddles.... :chuckle: If you camp in my yard, there will be facilities.
James Island has outhouses but no water as far as I know.
-
For sure the follow-along is a great idea, "follow" us :hello:

LOL
Just business as usual!
How far from the dock is your place?
I have been to Decatur only 1 time and it was nice last time. We would love to camp in the yard if you are game.
Should we bring you some beer or wine??
Is there ok for a small campfire?
I am pretty fired up to get out and catch some butts!
-
Opening tide is EARLY!!!
If we hook up on a but day1, we have to take it back to the truck. 1 limit at a time on the boat.
2 in possession. So much for saving fuel by staying out 2 days! We will still stay out, just burn more fuel! THANKS WDFW!
-
Oscar, you are either really good or just really optimistic. :chuckle:
-
Lokidog...
Have you ever met a fisherman who was not optimistic?
I think we will have a great time, and maybe catch a couple of big halibut!
Why else spend thousands on a boat, hundreds on gas and gear and burn several honey-do's on forgiveness/ permission to go from Mrs.Oscar?
Besides...I got the spot we killed them from last year saved in my GPS!
:IBCOOL:
