Got me some new friends. A nice doe and her two fawns. Between the three of them they ate 42lbs of apples and destroyed a pressed block. Date and time are incorrect.
-
I know that spot. Good first pics.
-
Do you like that camera so far? I want to pick up a few for summer scouting.
-
yeah, i do. so far it takes fair to good pics in any lighting condition.
-
Nice pics. thanks. That pile of apples looks good i might come over and have a bite, wheres it at? lol. :chuckle:
-
which model is it?
-
I'll have to check and see what model it it. I'm heading back to check this weekend. It has been soaking for three weeks. I've got a plan to hual in two 50's of wet cob using my back and my kids wagon. That along with a fresh batch of apples should keep 'em coming for a bit longer this tim.

I've heard they really like the 50# bags of ice melting salt you can buy from any feed store. It will certainly last longer and keep em coming back, everything likes salt! I put out pressed blocks last winter and they messed with them a little but smashed the salt crystals
-
Here is some new stuff. A pic/vid slideshow montage I made up.
Blacktail Bait Cam, 2011 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhuGFsu20GU#)
-
wow you're getting a lot of activity!! Keep it up! Thank you for sharing
-
You might try northwest beef mineral from Wolfkill in Stanwood instead of blocks or straight salt. Gives the critters the minor things they need along with the salt. Caution: If you put this stuff on the ground large deep holes result. On a stump or in a rubber pan under a large tree keeps the excavation down.
-
I did something like when I was there changing the card out. I put two 4lb salt blocks, one acorn rage mineral mix and one general mineral trace. I figure with the rain they will break down into the stump they are sitting on. Thanks for the lead on the brand.
-
Try using a bag of mineral salt with Selenium in it and pour it on the ground. Im setting up my 2 cameras this weekend. I bought 2 of everything (2 cameras, 2 sites), but im starting with (per site) One 50# bag of mineral salt with Selenium ($9), One 50# block of mineral salt with Selenium ($8.55) I want to see which method they like better, and One 50# bag of Wet Cob (Corn Oat Barley with Molasses mix) ($11.50). This time of year they love and need those minerals.
-
At my site they are eating the cob and cracked corn along with the apples. I am finally ahead of their ability to eat them faster than I can put them out.

For now! Just wait until they tell their friends :chuckle:
-
Any by friends I'm looking for chocolate horned boyfriend.
-
You must have quite the connection for the apples this time of year. I cant see you buying them at the store for $1.50 a pound. Where do you get them and how much have you spent so far? I was following your other thread, but cant find it now.
-
The other thread is in Deer section. I've got a market close to my work. I'm at about 50 cents a pound. I usually buy two cases. I've also started looking for and finding folks with apples trees. Figure this fall when things get hopping if I can go pick up free apples out of a few yards I'm good to go.

Yeah thats a good idea. I wonder if theres certain apples they perfer over others. :dunno:
-
I don't know. However, if you talk to anyone with deer in the area and trees in the yeard they will tell you they come in and eat them. I would think to a deer an apple is an apple.
-
The BT at my other property won't touch my apple trees... They are green, pretty sour though... But the peaches and pears get tore up.... They've killed two trees last year trying to shake em to knoock the fruit out!!!!
-
Only a one week soak and lots of action. I call this the Northwest Trifecta.
-
Looks like, Young Deer, Young Yote (starving yote), and Young Bear. Great pics!
-
Thanks, I know there is a little buck in the area. Hoping he comes in so we can watch his antlers grow over the summer.
-
Yeah, I have a few deer in the area where hunt and I know of 2 big old bucks that I've only been able to glimpse of for the last 2 years. I am hoping to get the Yotes out of the area so that the bucks will come through. I have several does that are pregnant and can't wait to see what the growth will be like when they move around. But, I have first get the Yotes out of there!
-
pics to speak for themselves. Seems the cam made it through ok.
-
love that coat on that yote
-
A few more. I think this bear is tagged maybe.
-
hard to tell if its a tag or foilege stuck on its ear.
-
Yep, more.
-
And a little battle scarring.
-
:yike: good thing your camera came out alright.
-
No pics of the camera attack?
-
Nope, I think it was attacked from behind. I've to some pics that are nothing but fur and one of the side of the bear as he went around the stump. Backside of the stump was torn up a bit and the rest of the strap was a little chewed on.
-
Cool pics.
-
Cam got hammered. Puncture wound to the front, busted buckle loop on the back, plenty of pics of sky. Cam has been brought in for repairs. Gonna make my own bear box and then get back at it. In the mean time, here are some pics for you all.
Stupid bears.
-
few more
-
Maybe a couple more...
-
Nice pictures. You only have to wait a couple more months..........
-
I feel your pain. I have had bears destroy a camera. Bear boxes or some type of security box made out of steel are the way to go to save your investment.
-
Borrowed a buddy cam and went to check it. It was messed by a little bear but survived. First pic you can see a deers back. His head was down but I think this is my buck that has been coming in. The rest speak for themselves.
-
Thats a nice bear
-
Got my new cam in today from Bushnell. Bear box looks good, got batteries at home, some cob, corn, a trophy rock, and some stump licker. Heading out to replenish the supplies and re hang the cam. I'll post when I get back this evening.
-
Those are some awesome bear pics
-
Thanks.
So, here is the new cam all mounted up. The pics don't show the box with the "lid" on. It also has bear deterents sticking out of it and is padlocked to the main body. The cam is positioned over one case of apples, some cob, some cracked corn, a trophy rock, and some buck jam poured all over it like a damn deer lick apple sundae. I'll let it soak for probably two weeks and then check back.
-
Any pictures of the "apple sundae"?
-
Sorry, I thought about that later. I was pretty soaked from walking through the wet brush and didn't want to get the camera any more wet so I had put it away. It was a pretty "sweet" looking apple sunday. Later, when I check the cam I'll have some footage of me walking up with the second load of grain and the trophy rock. I'll make sure to post something that shows the sundae.
-
Nice looking box. Those drywall screws will snap right off. They have no shear strength at all. The box looks like it was made for that camera? I made mine out of an old electrical switch box.
-
The box is from Bushell and yes, it is for the camera. I'll put heavier screws in it if they snap them off. We'll just have to sit back and see how it turns out.
-
So, the new camera is unmolesed and working well. Problem is I filled a 4 gig memory card with bear videos in three days. The silly buggers just laid around and basically lapped it up. They even built a little bed and did some napping. All day, all night, all bears. There is some music with the vid, Jimmy Buffets Gods Own Drunk. There is very minor swearing but for children with sensitive ears you may want the volumne off.
Black Bear Trail Cam Vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dGHfTeMkv8#)
-
I can't see vid, I must be doin something wrong maybe I'll try my laptop not the iPhone.
-
The vid is there. It's about 6 minutes long. A lone bear in apple heaven...
-
Any guesses on the weight of this bear?
-
Wow! How did I miss all those pics, you got some great stuff on here. Cool vid, and funny song choice. Lol
-
I like the song choice.....buddy bear with his island size paws. He expected me to do two things, flip or fly, I didn't do either one, it hung 'em up. Love it. Thanks for checking it out.
-
So, one week soak with two pressed blocks. I'm hoping the bears will be less interested and the deer will be more into it. Well, it kind of worked. A one week soak resulted in 426 new pics. Cam was set at 8mp with singe pic trigger and 1 minute lag. Lots and lots and lots of bears. I believe I have one boar of good sized, one lone little fella, and one momma and little one. Basically, the pressed blocks, yeah, they chew on them and roll them around like a chew toy. Also had a coyote come in for a sniff. Here are just a couple of the new ones. While up there I changed batteries and put out two new pressed blocks.
-
Couple more...
-
Great photos love the bear.
-
That sure is a pretty place. Nice pictures
-
Bears, bears, bears. The wife and I went out last Saturday to put out two new blocks and change out the card. The bears waited less than two hours to come in and check things out. I got one pic of nothing but fur....cam is undamaged. This time out I put a pile of peanuts, a pile of buckbran, and a pile of wet cob. Under the buck bran is a redspot salt/mineral block. It was only a few bucks so why not. Lots and lots of pics of bears, one yote, and one surveyor.
Here we go.
-
The "buffet" and some pics.
-
Want more? I got 400 of 'em.
-
Nice
-
would it be leagal to take a bear there if you removed all the attractents one day and the next day shot one?
-
Nope, 30 days after any and all types of attractant/bait is removed.
-
Where does it say 30 days? I've never heard of that.
-
I'll have to look. I thought the definition of a baited area was 30 days.
-
I'll have to look. I thought the definition of a baited area was 30 days.
:yeah: i was under the same impression
-
RCW 77.15.245. does not state anything about a timelimit. :dunno:
-
hmm, does it say anything about a defined range or area by distance once an area is baited?
-
After reading the rcw I still don't know what is defined as timline or distance. Without the aid of bait could mean anything depending on intrepretaion. That is why I'm not taking any chances with bears in the area and hunting them. I'll find them elsewhere and not risk being in trouble because of an intreptation of the law that is not clearly defined.
-
Not sure but I believe the 30 day timeline applies to waterfowl and is a federal law. I could be wrong but I know I have seen it in the waterfowl regs, never in the big game regs. :twocents:
-
Lots and lots of new pics. Bears, deer, hunters, me...some good stuff here. I threw in one of me for scale on the bear standing.
-
Deer.
-
Some more.
-
I call this set the "Oh s**t, that was close" set.
-
Very cool. I woulda been more comfortable had they been in the opposite order had that been me - I'd rather be tracking the bear... :chuckle: Those are amazing. I just thought what it would be like to see something like that on my cams. I'm sure it's more common than I think.
-
23 minutes. Nice to have remote eyes in the woods.
-
Still getting some action. I've quit bringing in cob and apples and stuff. Trying to get more deer, less bears. However, this is a nice looking animal and a good pic, so, I figured I post is up.
-
Got some newer pics. Since I'm no longer putting out bait I am getting a lot fewer bears. Still some showing up however. The case with spikes, or as one guy calls it, my hellraiser cam, is keeping the bears from being a problem. Here are a few of the more recent.
-
Few new ones on the cam.
-
To bad I wasn't in my blind at these times.
So, would you shoot?
Shoot or no shoot? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKQsMRCIhc0#)
-
It's time for a new rug.
-
Like that last bear do you?
-
Small enough to sit between my sofa and the fireplace....
-
Here is a final couple. I've pulled the cam. I count my self lucky nobody messed with it. I'm going to find a new location and start a new project at the first of the year. thanks for following and keep your eyes peeled for the next thread.
