Title: Blackpowder Turkey
Post by: KLRKeith on April 17, 2011, 11:47:58 AM: Well the birds were a lot more vocal than the last two days. I set up on a few roosting Toms and did my best imitation of a flock of hens. 30 minutes goes by and this Tom sneaks in. 8 1/2 beard and lost a few tail feathers. I was shooting a 12ga barrel mounted on a T/C New Englander stock. 80 grains of 2F Goex Black Powder, overpowder card, 1/2 cushion wad, 80 grains #6 shot and over shot card. Most pellets hit him in the neck and head around 35 yards. I did find two pellets in the breast that only made it through the feathers and slightly into the meat....Love seeing that cloud of white smoke and hear the flapping of wings!
