I have a guy who killed a Merriam hen with an 8 inch beard this morning.
Do they keep records of hens? I found on the internet where a 9 inch is the Ohio record eastern.
Can anyone offer any info.

That link provides emails for all WDFW programs, not just the enforcement/violation info at the top of the page....

Only Turkeys with beards can be taken in Spring.....legit bird. I've heard of a few being taken over the years, but have never seen one other than on TV.
-
I was told they do keep a record on bearded Hens, but I could not tell you who to contact for that info.
-
I sent a message to WDFW asking if they keep any records but I thought maybe someone knew if NWTF kept those kind of records. I did not see it listed on their website.

Congrats to the hunter on a great bird!
-
Thanks C-Money. He was going to mount the fan, but after talking about it, I think he will likely do a lifesize. It's the longest bearded hen we have ever taken.
-
Definitely something to look into, I shot a hen with a 7 inch beard 2 years ago and I wondered the same thing. :dunno:
-
Our scouting trips to our hunt area northwest of Goldendale found several hens with beards, at least three different ones. They were only 3-4 inches long, nothing like this one!

NWTF records show the national record for a bearded hen is 11 inches, harvested in Benton, Mo., May 4, 2008, by hunter Ronald Kathman.

I wonder what the record for a Merriam's is?

there is a hen out of chewelah that has a double beard but they are only about 5-6 inches each pretty cool to see but not sure I would shoot one :dunno:

Rich Reathaford, a former NWTF State chapter president, use to be the focal for Wa. State turkey records, and still may be? I do not have any contact info but using the name may get you at least closer. Or maybe contact and Boone and Crockett scorers you may know? Hope that helps.

I took a friend out for a late fall hunt when it was by permit only in the kettle Falls area. He saw a turkey with a beard and shot. When he brought it back and I went to measure the beard, it was really wispy but measured 8-1/2 inches. I went to measure the spurs, and was shocked that it had none. I said, let me see it's head ... sure enough, a Merriam hen. He was a little disappointed he hadn't shot a tom, but I convinced him he had shot a trophy bird and that hen would taste great.

I got a bearded hen 3 springs ago. It didn't have a big as beard as yours. maybe 6". My guide was the same ay yours. I understand you had quite the fun morning with the hen in the roost. : :)

Has that been three springs ago already? And yes, that hen in the roost was really pissed at us. See ya soon :)
