Well, Gunner is coming along very nicely. He is still very strong willed, but is being a great pup so far!
This is him and the old man, who is just over 13 now....

I took him for a walk while the kiddo was at soccer practice. This big boxer across the street really had his attention....

He's 11 weeks now and about 4-5 days ago really started fetching good. I mainly play fetch with a dummy, but only had a ball along this day. I get him good and riled first, then when I throw it, he runs absolutely full out then usually grabs the dummy or ball with a growl, then flips over it onto the ground, more growling, then with encouragement from me runs full speed right back to my hand... Lovin It!

He has taken to his crate pretty good and is now spending from about 10:30 to 5:30 in there no prob. He goes in there on his own and doesn't "freak out" anymore. Boy, I'll tell ya. Those first couple weeks he would make a pack of coyotes blush with his yammering!!

I've got him sitting, staying and coming real good. He will lay down "some" of the time, but really just started that. He is my buddy... because I spend the most time with him of course... I also make him sit and wait for his food until I tell him "ok"... the last few days he's been golden on that! I'm real happy with him. Its amazing how "natural" the quartering thing is for him/these dogs. At 11 weeks when I walk him on a lead he'll quarter back and forth if I am not trying to make him heel and he already loves to dive into the tall grass and that little nose is working all the time!!!

Good looking pup.

great looking springer!
-
Agree with the others, great looking pup! Now get him a hunting-style collar so that dog tag doesn't dangle and make noise and or snag on brush :)
-
when he gets a little bigger! geesh.... give the boy some puppyhood!! :chuckle:
-
Great looking pup Ernie.
-
Good looking pup for sure :IBCOOL:
-
He's fun... I get the biggest kick out of how he fetches... he is just angry as hell at that dummy!!! :chuckle: I need to video it!
-
By the way, the shed hunting training will start asap... I have about 3 fresh sheds that every time he looks at one I say "horn" and my hope soon is that he'll recognize the word and assoc. with the bone... Then I'll put them in the yard in plain sight and tell him to "get the horn" or "fetch the horn" or something like that... Basically like doing multiple retrieves... Then it will go to Blind retrieves with them hidden here or there...
Then when the time comes, next winter, I'll get out the truck and say, "find the horn" and within a few minutes I'll have a nice pile at my feet! :IBCOOL:
-
Except you forgot that he probably won't recognize the word----Horn--- as all his buddies taught him they were ---antlers---- :chuckle:
PS. He is a solid looking springer
-
I thought 1 syllable was going to be easier! He wont go get the horn when I say it yet though, so maybe he is thinking "what the hell is he talking about? There's an antler laying right over there, but he keeps asking for a horn??? :dunno:"
Kid is doing real well. Still fetchin like a fiend.... loves to root around in the brush and tall grass... hasn't had any bird action yet...except for a couple robins he chased off the street the other day! :chuckle:
-

-

Great looking dog. Gotta love those Springers. My female is 3 and is a really good hunter. Wait till you see him hunt and jump like a bunny! That's why they call them "springers". :)
