Title: Got a new hunting partner yesterday.
Post by: seansfire on April 22, 2011, 09:21:22 PM
My girlfreind and i went into a sporting goods store the other day to get me some new arrows and when we left she had bought herself a bow. She got the Diamond Razors Edge and seems very happy. I am very new to archery and hunting myself and i was hoping someone on here might be able to point me in the right direction to seeing some animals in the woods. We live in the Key Peninsula / Gig Harbor area. Thought it might be neat to take her somewhere and see something moving around. Dont mind driving to find a good hunting spot.

I am also wanting to try and meet some like minded people around where we live to maybe scout and or hunt when the time comes. Compare notes , and or places we have found. Kind of a club i guess you could say.

You're in a good area, find some gated timber lands around there and start hiking! Neat the girlfriend is into it with you.  :IBCOOL:

Just an update. i have had her shooting in her yard and at KBH out in Belfair and she is already a better shot then i am.  :chuckle: She enjoys it alot , just not the big bruise on her forearm. Doing well though and she has 6 inch groups at 10 , 20 , and 30 , and is stacking a pin to shoot 40 with no coaching.

We havent really talked about her hunting yet but we are having a great time shooting and spending time together. We are gonna start scouting very soon though. If anyone is in the Gig Harbor area we would be happy to meet up with ya see if we cant help each other get our tags filled this year.

feel free to start it on this thread. i am curious to see where it goes. i have an ex wife that i tried to get to go hunting. we were married for 8 years and i hunted for 3 of those years and she never once went out with me. i have been with my lady now for 5 months and she is itchin to go out and she has been shooting with me at the archery range twice. :IBCOOL:

trouble is that she is a far better shot than i am already. :lol4:

It is great that she is getting into archery with you. I would recommend a lesson or two from a archery shop to get her started in the right direction. Bad habits are hard to break. If you get her started right she will not have to worry about bad habits and she will be way ahead of the game
There is no reason for her to be bruising her forearm. A small adjustment in the way she holds her bow, or an adjustment in her draw length and the problem will be solved. Shooting should be enjoyable and hopefully painless. Unless you have bad shoulders..... Good luck and have fun!!

Fiancée? Think that one over a bit, please. My buddy married a woman who doesn't like his hunting and he's a poor, miserable soul. She complains every time he hunts or spends a dime on it. Not a good way to go.

When my wife and I met, the first thing we got out of the way was hunting. It went kind of like this: "I hunt and will continue to, no questions asked. Any questions? Never mind, I don't care." We've been going strong ever since.

Pianoman speaks the truth. Like my grandfather says "you gotta learn to give and take". Or as my mom says "you can either be right or happy, not both"

I married a city Squaw thinking she would never hunt.  Then I made the mistake of taking her on a hunt to observe.  :bdid:  Now people meet me and say, "aren't you the guy who used to ....?,  Weren't you the guy I read about 20 years ago...?, I remember reading your articles back then.  Where have you been?"  All I can say now is, "Yeah, that was me, but now I'm happily married"  Even my friends and family take way too much joy asking me,  "Isn't that bigger than yours?,  She got hers why haven't you gotten yours?" :bash: :bash: :bash:

Take it from a grumpy old man like me - Be careful what you wish for guys.  'Cause there's no turning back once your wife becomes a huntaholic.  You'll be DOOMED!

P.S. - If my wife asks you jacked my account and wrote this yourself.

if you love hunting.......don't marry her.  and don't think you can change her.  women are patient and will do nothing but change you into something your not.  Good luck
