Title: Turkey Surprise
Post by: flinger on April 25, 2011, 04:40:22 PM
Well Carnivore and Myself spent the weekend looking for them dam gobblers could not put lead to head.  had mentioned to each other that with all the deer we were seeing it's kinda crazy that we hadn't found any sheds, But headed out sun afternoon and found this guy,Curious what some of you guys think he might have scored .My guess is he died of old age so i would think he was probably a little bigger in his prime
so what do ya think Basicly if ya look at the 2nd pic. the tallest tines are basically 17 1/2 inches point to point

I bet that number is much higher.  It ain't worth the risk for me, I like my huntin' too much to take the chance.  The vast majority of folks that I talk to don't know that you can't take them home.

I didn't know until I read this thread.  Grrrr......Thanks dudes. >:(  I guess I don't need to worry about how I was going to get a whole bunch of elk racks/skulls home now.

Wow that news to me. Where can one find that law. Guess it makes sence since it is not a shed.

What a great find.  I think he'd be a low to mid 150 class buck.   Not sure he's an old buck that died of old age.  Got a lot of features of of younger buck that had maybe not yet reached his prime.  Either way, great find.   Nice if you can keep it.

We were good boys and left it there.  Sure would look nice hanging somewhere though...it was awful tempting to take it home.  What is the penalty and odds of being charged if we were caught bringing it to the truck?

Possession of a big game animal (trophy size) during a closed season with no tag............if they wanted.  Personally, I would call local WDFW, and tell them of your find and show them pics and tell them the whereabouts, and let them you know you'd like to have it.  More than likely, they will let you have it. :twocents:

Not enough mass for an old buck but nice buck no matter what!

Actually, it is in 121.  Too far to drive back for a skull but useful information in case it happens again.
