Title: Quite turkeys?
Post by: demontang on April 26, 2011, 12:33:27 PM
So I got out early this morning and headed up to my turkey spot. I walked in and got there right at 6:10. I was sitting the waiting to hear them and nothing. I stayed quite tell 6:50 then I called a little and still nothing. So about an hr later I got up and headed higher and 100yds up the road a lone hen saw me and slowly went up the hill to my right. It never made a sound? I doubled back and came up the draw she went toward and just set an listened for a bit and nothing I called a little and nothing. I waited 30min got up and walk back to the road and kick that hen up again this time I scared her and she flew away but never made one sound. Do turkey not call when they have been hunted hard? It was the first time I've been in there and there wasn't much sign just one set of tracks walking in and out which I followed and they went another 2-3 miles in and turned around.

We actually saw quite a few turkeys. They were just being real quiet and not talking much. :chuckle: Our biggest problem was the wind. I think they really shut up when its blowing. Being such a vocal bird they really depend on sound to communicate and when its windy it doesn't help. :twocents:

Yah the weather is weird. Last week went to my spot and nothing was vocal all day. Then about 6:30p I heard a gobble. So I just waited about 10 mins. And gave a couple soft yelps. Still nothing so about 7:00p weather was turning crappy. I packed up thinking he wasn't interested, maybe a Jake. Started moving away from my spot to my truck. And spotted two toms sneakin in like jakes about 60-50yrds. Backed off them because they saw me. And got back on them in the morning. And the rest is history. Tryin to post pics but having trouble. But keep at it there out there.
