I personally will fish any time, but my kids enjoy all the "hoopla" of opening day, reminds me of when I was a kid. they don't care about fishing as much as the event.
But then they have been bugging me to take them fishing for quite a while now....

I completely understand that. I was lucky enough to live on a year round lake growing up, fished it last week for the first time in years and had a great time.

I remember when I was young, opening day on Haven Lake at my grandparents place. My buddy and I would always have a great time out there and have some pics to remember it by.

Good luck everyone!  :)

don't plan on fishing the opener this year, but i do like fishing failor lake since it's 10 minutes up the road from my house.  i always took lake fishing for granted when i grew up in lacey, i moved out here to the coast, and there's hardly any lake fishing at all, the nearest year round lakes are a half hour away.

Little tradition, I am taking my 3 boys to North Lake in Federal Way at my Aunts House. The Kids really get excited about the opening day tradition. They love digging the worms in the compost pile, waking up early to go fishing (only if it's not raining), cooking the fish on the BBQ with my Uncle. Memories to cherish for the rest of my life, just like I did when growing up with my parents! Here are few pix that I enjoy as Dad!

I used to NEVER go opening weekend, but since my daughter has really gotten into fishing and hunting we started going to Conconully. This year she has a goal of repeating as winner of the opener derby they put on every year. She took the youth division last year. Whether she wins or not she LOVES to fish and out do ole dad LOL.

The kid and I were going to head down to the Elma ponds this morning but she had to be back by noon to  go to a party so we went to Fort Borst.  We went there yesterday evening without a single bit.  Today, after one of Daddies homemade pink trout worms and secret smelly juice, she was nailing the crap out of them when nobody else was.  She brought home 3 that were gut hooked and chucked back a bunch.

Saturday, we were at Borst caught a whole bunch of little ones, caught one decent (17") and lost 3 or 4 others (triploids)
My daughters were dead on their feet by the time the Lions Club had their drawing, after not winning anything, I said it was time to go home, but they still wanted to stay (even though they could not even keep their eyes open).
I promised to bring them back Sunday, so they reluctantly got in the truck.
Sunday morning was much the same, except 3 boys next to us wanted the little ones we had been releasing, we ended up with our 1 (17") and losing 3-4 again, and gave the boys 10 fish and some bait (they started catching their own) then went home and got Mom and my son, back for a picnic dinner (Jack in the Box) and 3 more little ones, my 19 month old son even got to help reel in his first fish !!
I have to say a great couple days on the lake with the girls, constant action on little (9-12") with a triploid every 6 0r 7 fish, most getting off at the shore, for some reason could not get them hooked very well. (ever tried to explain to a 5 year old how to "set the hook" ?) would have been a real short couple days fishing if we would have kept all fish, yes I know they are supposed to count towards limit when using bait, but even the Warden at the lake (actually was 3 that I know of, well 2 and a Bio) did not care.

She came up by my Daughter and myself just as she caught her last fish of the day and we were getting ready to take off.  She did make sure to put it in the water, lol.  I told her that was a dandy, she game me a smile as we were headed out.  Small world.
