Oregon to shoot rock chucks! I will fish during the week at Sun Lakes.

I plan on hitting a local lake at midnight so I can fish, then taking my girls to Borst for the juvenile fishing event.

yeah year round lakes rock but some people have been fishing the same lakes on the opener for a long time. Kinda like tradition now.
-
And with 20 million dumb trout stocked they might actually catch one :chuckle:
Trout opener! I'm going fishing as far away from any low land lake as I can go :P
-
I personally will fish any time, but my kids enjoy all the "hoopla" of opening day, reminds me of when I was a kid. they don't care about fishing as much as the event.
But then they have been bugging me to take them fishing for quite a while now....
-
Wapato. Been going since I was born 22 years ago :IBCOOL:
-
Taking the kiddies to Jameson.....Been fishing the same spot on that lake every opening day since I was 5.....27 years!!!

Jameson that brings back some memories from high school we use to make trips there all the time with just the guys.

-
Im going to work! Maybe I will get to meet some fishermen on the road.

I completely understand that. I was lucky enough to live on a year round lake growing up, fished it last week for the first time in years and had a great time.
I remember when I was young, opening day on Haven Lake at my grandparents place. My buddy and I would always have a great time out there and have some pics to remember it by.
Good luck everyone! :)
-
We'll be on tiger like every year!

go get 'em! I love that lake!
It's gorgeous, just getting real crowded. Hopefully gas prices will keep a few people off the lake this year. Is it bad to wish that? :chuckle:
-
Orcas Island, Cascade Lake.
-
Nowhere but i wish all that are going the best of luck. Just cant stand all the crowds and so many boats you can walk across without getting wet. :chuckle:

I sure don't think so! :chuckle: I fish that lake a lot from May to September! I know it pretty well
-
Aberdeen lake, gonna be a real zoo if the weathers nice.
-
don't plan on fishing the opener this year, but i do like fishing failor lake since it's 10 minutes up the road from my house. i always took lake fishing for granted when i grew up in lacey, i moved out here to the coast, and there's hardly any lake fishing at all, the nearest year round lakes are a half hour away.
-
So how many were planning on fishing in Okanogan county, but canceled due to the pass being closed?? I hope it stays closed through deer season... :chuckle:
-
We'll be at the cabin in Winthrop might be a little slow fishing I'm sure the water temp is cooold.

I'll be here 47 55'58.55" N 122 05'36.26" W :IBCOOL:

taking my girls to Borst for the juvenile fishing event.
I might be there with my girls as well after some yardwork. Or, I might just say piss on it and take the Skeeter up to Riffe for smallies.
-
I'll probably be doing yard work if the weather is all right. I might hit up a few local lakes close to the house but most of them are open year round
-
dont do the opener, gonna take the grandaughter out after the opener
-
So I guess you are doing the opener

-
Heading over to Clear Lake near Eatonville. Been going to a buddies house there for last 5 years or so. Gets pretty cramped out there, but fun none the less. Good luck everyone!

I didn't make any plans for the afternoon... ;)

-
Little tradition, I am taking my 3 boys to North Lake in Federal Way at my Aunts House. The Kids really get excited about the opening day tradition. They love digging the worms in the compost pile, waking up early to go fishing (only if it's not raining), cooking the fish on the BBQ with my Uncle. Memories to cherish for the rest of my life, just like I did when growing up with my parents! Here are few pix that I enjoy as Dad!
-
Taking my 6 year old out to Clear Lake for the opener and then heading south on Sunday for some Springers!
-
clear in pierce county on saturday. then taking the boy to either tanwax or a private lake across from clear on sunday.
that private lake is lake 27, my dad took me there my whole childhood ,life it WAS the best damn crappie fishn known to man, i went in the military and when i came back it was private and i heard there isnt very good for crappie anymore :'( :'( :'(
-
I used to NEVER go opening weekend, but since my daughter has really gotten into fishing and hunting we started going to Conconully. This year she has a goal of repeating as winner of the opener derby they put on every year. She took the youth division last year. Whether she wins or not she LOVES to fish and out do ole dad LOL.

Tha's why I go after work at 11:00Pm :chuckle:

Kid went to elma ponds caught a nice 4lb farm fish....I had to work the ponds were a total zoo.... we are both down here now he is at the pond for kids and geezers I am sunbathing with a fishing pole ...lol...really do not care if I catch any thing I don't care for trout its more about doing stuff with him even though he ditched me for better waters.....lol....and getting some much needed sunshine
-
The kid and I were going to head down to the Elma ponds this morning but she had to be back by noon to go to a party so we went to Fort Borst. We went there yesterday evening without a single bit. Today, after one of Daddies homemade pink trout worms and secret smelly juice, she was nailing the crap out of them when nobody else was. She brought home 3 that were gut hooked and chucked back a bunch.
-
Saturday, we were at Borst caught a whole bunch of little ones, caught one decent (17") and lost 3 or 4 others (triploids)
My daughters were dead on their feet by the time the Lions Club had their drawing, after not winning anything, I said it was time to go home, but they still wanted to stay (even though they could not even keep their eyes open).
I promised to bring them back Sunday, so they reluctantly got in the truck.
Sunday morning was much the same, except 3 boys next to us wanted the little ones we had been releasing, we ended up with our 1 (17") and losing 3-4 again, and gave the boys 10 fish and some bait (they started catching their own) then went home and got Mom and my son, back for a picnic dinner (Jack in the Box) and 3 more little ones, my 19 month old son even got to help reel in his first fish !!
I have to say a great couple days on the lake with the girls, constant action on little (9-12") with a triploid every 6 0r 7 fish, most getting off at the shore, for some reason could not get them hooked very well. (ever tried to explain to a 5 year old how to "set the hook" ?) would have been a real short couple days fishing if we would have kept all fish, yes I know they are supposed to count towards limit when using bait, but even the Warden at the lake (actually was 3 that I know of, well 2 and a Bio) did not care.
-
We were there sunday morning just South of the stairs going into the pond. We didn't get a bite for a couple of hours. Was it your girl that was walking around with a single big fish on a stringer over by the stairs?
-
Yes, she actually did that both days, but yesterday she actually kept it in the water ! LOL
-

She came up by my Daughter and myself just as she caught her last fish of the day and we were getting ready to take off. She did make sure to put it in the water, lol. I told her that was a dandy, she game me a smile as we were headed out. Small world.
-
ya, she sure was proud of the fish, I think she showed them both to everybody on that side of the lake 4 or 5 times each day... :chuckle:

Whatever hits my rapala :chuckle: Targeting smallies usually. Only pulled one small largie out and a few bullhead, mostly just smallies though. On curlew its all about the largies and tiger musky!

Sunday was the only decent day we've had. It's been sunny and getting warmer though so hopefully the snow melts off soon and the wind stops.
