I am on my phone so I will keep this short with picture and a lot more story later, way to tired for a good write up! It was a bear hard earned. I put a stalk on him from around 800y out .1 text book shot with my new etips at about 100-120y and done deal. I killed this bear in about as nasty as hell hole as I could find. I was hunting solo but picked up my buddy Jeremy, after hiking out of hole he was in. We hiked back in got him all rugged out and meat de-honed and started the long wet pack out. Beautiful long coat, huge huge Mellon on this bear! As he lays we put him at 170-180 and that's a safe guess between 2 people who have been around a lot of bears. Very tired a lot more later and pics! A huge thanks to my buddy Jeremy for hosting and pointing me in the right direction! And packing him out of that nasty spot, which was a little crazy to shoot a bear in! lol thanks Jeremy

I am looking forward to getting a skull score here is a good pic that shows his monster skull. I am sure we have under guessed him on weight he is more in the 190-200 range. No less then 180 he is a dandy spring bear and has the frame of a 300lb'er in the fall. He didn't have nothing for fat left on him. Enjoy!
-
Another.

O.k time for the story. When I got into town my buddy was still and work. I got my key and he told me a gate and area to check out. It's hard hunting and early right now. Well I got to the gate and went threw but went into a different area then he was wanting me to check. "forgot what way he said to go lol" got into a area and loaded up my pack and took off up the canyon. I went down a road that dead ended so I decided to set up and call. After 30mins I decided to move on. After hiking up the switchbacks I came to a y with a old grower up road branching off the main road. I loved the look of this road and took off down it. I found the best looking bear area ever. Big timber with a clear cut above, below, and infront of me. I glasses the lower one first. Then looked over with my naked eye to the 2nd cut. I right away saw a black spot I knew was a bear. About 800-900y away there he was working the far edge of the cut. Going in amen out of the big timber. After watching him disappear I was disappointed. Then about 30 mins he came back out and dug and layer in a bed next to a huge stump. I took off on my stock. Why I dove off into this hole I don't know, I was bear crazed! Lol after crawling threw this westside jungle of stickers and rain for about a hour, I got to a huge stump that I marked to get to. I climbed up on it and looked down to the stump I thought the bear was by. No bear and I was disappointed to say the least. So I started to glass and saw nothing. Well I started getting pic's of the county with my cell. Just before leaving I decided to squall with my voice a little to see if I could maybe get him to move if he was in the area. Sure enough when I did 100-120 yards away next to a stump I see movement. I thought oh s! I threw my gun up and watched him ready to take a shot if he was going to leave. To my surprise after a minute he laid back down. I took my pack off and made a killer rest. I had a very small hole to shoot threw when he was going to get up. I steadily got ready and squalled with my voice again. The bear rose up in the front facing me, but quartered to the right so I could see the edge of his left shoulder. BOOM! The 180g etip smacked him and flipped him over and out of my sight. I knew the shot was good. With 10 sec's the death moan started, and last about 30 sec's. I knew it was a done deal. I called my buddy and he said to come pick him up, he just got off work. So after about 1 hr of hiking back out I booked it down to my truck and made it out and picked him up. We got to the last road we could get to and parked, then headed in with packs. After climbing down into the spot I shot him at. We found him stone dead right where I shot him. He was just low enough I could not see him after the shot. A lot of work and skinning and cutting meat. We set back out for our climb back with heavy packs! Awhile later and many bloody sticker branches later we got him out. A huge thanks to my bud again for his help! Thanks for following and reading on this outstanding bear hunt.

I am sure you are off a little. Nice bear for sure.
+ or - I have been around 10+ bears and my buddy 30+. A lot of guys know both of us well and I have got several messages saying we are low ball-in him at 180.
-
Can we get a head to head comparison? I still think you are the bigger bear :chuckle:
Nice pics, good write up and way to get r done :IBCOOL:

I am 6'1" and 25olbs for comparison. :chuckle:

Been around bears or weighed bears? Big difference.
I'd say you lowballed him a tad bit. The pics aren't the greatest for estimating, but I would bet 200 - 225 live. Probably not much more. Definitely a great looking bear.
-
Nice bear he looks bigger than you and you look over 180! That bear has the body frame of a 250-300 lber if he was taken in the fall.
-
Oh I know you know bears and that is why I asked. I have been around live, and dead bears on scales, lots of people that know bears have been telling me easy 200 maybe 225. I just didn't want to be high on my number. it's good to hear people like u that know bears say 200+ thanks.
-
That is one pretty bear. Hoping to slap my tag on one Saturday. Great job!
-
Excellent
Heading out in the am. Hope I see one. Great job on that bear and pics.

-
Great Job!! Nice looking bear and good story, well done!
-
Great job! That's the rug my wife wants right there - gonna have to get serious on that project this fall. I've seen quite a few bears weighed, and I would be very surprised if he's under 200lbs.
-
Good looking bear. Congrats!
-
Awesome bear and a great story!
A little luck + hard work + perseverance = success ... AGAIN!
-
Beautiful Bear..Sounds like a well earned trophy...
-
Thanks everyone! It was a great hunt! I wish someone was there to film it but you can't always make that happen. Been having a great time with Jeremy and his great family. Was hoping to stick around for some ling cod fishing on the first. But the weather has turned and the winds are up, along with the snow line dropping to 500ft! :yike: where I shot my bear now has 1-2" of new snow. Glad I got it done when I did and my efforts where rewarded with a outstanding trophy. I will be getting a skull measurement when I take the rug and head to a taxidermist after the drying time. Maybe the head competition will go back to a skagit bear ;) thanks to everyone for reading and following my quest for a spring bear. Matt... aka carpsniperg2
-
ur the man! good job!
-
great bear
-
I hate spring bears! Their hide looks so damn good! :)
I don't think there's much of anything better than a solo hunt and stalk on an animal on that critter's home turf. Success is the icing on the cake. Great job Matt!
Welcome to the wet side! :chuckle: :bash: :chuckle:

Congrats!
Sweet bear.
I just got my Skagit spring bear from last year back from the taxi a couple days ago. It turned out nice. It looked a little smaller than yours and I was guessing about 200 lbs on mine- live weight.
-
That's cool.
-
Its a fine bear Carp! Congrats! Dont forget to put him in the head competition! Nice hide too...
oh...and you called a bit with him too....even better....funny how you see those areas/roads and just have to take them to see what might be down em.
-
Congrats on a great bear!!! I can't wait for August to get here.
-
Not sure how I missed this post. :bash:
Great bear Matt.... You sure earned him.
-
He's a beaut! Nice work.
-
Nice looking bear Fish Shooter!!! I wish I was bear hunting this weekend.... Honey Do's are getting old!!!!
-
Well I decided to jet home today, after we found out the ling cod fishing wasn't going to happen. Took the extra long way home :bash: But got to meet Michelle nelson and take her my bear. It was very cool to get to meet her as well. She does some great looking work and I can't wait to see it when its done. She got to see the pics and look first hand at the bear. She agrees on a solid 200lb probably even a little better then that. We also think the skull could go into the washington books with the minimum 18.5", guessing he will be 19-19.5" on the skull. We will just have to wait and see. She is going to clean it then it will have to dry for the time frame needed. Then I will have someone score it before she bleaches it. The trip was a total of 730 miles for me. The truck did good at about 17.5mpg. What a great hunt and trip, even though it was short, it was still sweet with a great trophy bear. He has a dandy long thick coat on him and will make a premo rug. Got to meet some new friends and had a great time. This is one that will be stored deep in the memory banks.
-
verry nice . im looking at a long haul myself. i will be driving east of you and having fun like you did. bear or no bear :dunno: . congrats and in a couple weeks maybe i can share a story with all of you. j
